 BY THE NUMBERS

» Junior outside hitter Kelsey Robinson needs 25 digs to move into the top 10 in career digs in the Lady Vol record book.

UT IN THE RANKINGS¢ For the third consecutive season, Tennessee

opened its campaign in the national rankings, coming in at No. 15 in the AVCA Preseason Poll. The preseason ranking was the ninth in program history for UT, who concluded 2011 rated as No. 19.¢ On Aug. 27, the Lady Vols moved up one position

to No. 14 in the nation following wins over Cincinnati and then-No. 10 Iowa State. UT fell down two notches to No. 16 after posting a 2-1 mark at the Shocker Volleyball Classic.¢ The Big Orange went 3-0 at Maryland’s Spring-

Hill Suites Invitational with three sweeps, but dropped one spot to No. 17 in the AVCA Poll on Sept. 10.¢ After opening their SEC slate 2-3, the Lady Vols

dropped out of the top 25 on Oct. 1 for the first time in 17 polling periods and since September 2011.¢ The 16-week stretch was the fourth longest in

school history. UT had two stretches of 19-straight weeks (2009-11; 1982-84) and one stretch of 17 con-secutive weeks (2004-05) in the poll.¢ After entering the rankings at No. 24 on Nov. 30,

2009, the Lady Vols spent 19 consecutive polling pe-riods in the Top 25, until falling out for a four-week span last season. ¢ Six wins in their last seven matches would not

boost the Lady Vols back into the polls, but they are receiving votes for the fifth straight week (Oct. 29).

» Head Coach Rob Patrick is five matches away from coaching his 500th career match at Tennessee. It will be at home vs. Auburn on Nov. 16.

LADY VOL NOTESHARRISON TABBED DEFENSIVE POW¢ The leader in the middle of the Lady Vol defense,

redshirt senior DeeDee Harrison was named the SEC’s Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for her per-formances against Kentucky and Alabama last week.¢ An All-American last season and Preseason All-

SEC honoree this year, Harrison led the Big Orange with 13 blocks this past weekend. She posted eight against the Wildcats - just one shy of her career high - and followed with a five-block, nine-kill and hit a scorching .615 in the squad’s sweep of the Tide. ¢ The Nashville native has upped her blocks per set

average to 1.15 this season and currently ranks second in the league in the category. The 6-foot-4 middle blocker has UT ranked third in the conference in blocks. Over the last seven matches, she is averaging an impressive 1.41 blocks per game and has 41 total rejections.¢ This is the fifth SEC weekly award for the Lady Vols

this season, including the third defensive player of the week honor. Junior Ellen Mullins had the two other de-fensive honors, while Leslie Cikra and Kelsey Robinson have each added an offensive player of the week award.

WHAT A MILESTONE¢ With her first dig of the second set at Texas A&M

(10/19), Robinson became the fifth Lady Vol in program history to eclipse the 1,000-mark in career kills and digs.

¢ Robinson, who notched her 1,000th career kill in a five-set win at LSU (10/10) earlier this season, joins Tennessee greats Nikki Fowler, Kristy Dobson, Stepha-nie Ehlers and Sonja Thomas in the exclusive club.¢ Just a junior, Robinson reached the 1,000/1,000

mark in both categories in just 79 matches. Below is a chart of the five club members:

SCARY GOOD IN OCTOBER¢ The Lady Vols possess a near-perfect 6-1 record in

the month of October entering their November slate.¢ Dating back five seasons through the 2008 cam-

paign, the Lady Vols are an impressive 37-9 in the month of October and has used the 31 days to help propel themselves into four consecutive NCAA Tournaments.¢ Over the fmonth, Tennessee has out-performed its

opponents in every statistical category. The Lady Vols have out-killed (13.7 K/s-11.8 K/s), out-hit (.243-.183), out-passed (13.0 A/s-11.8 A/s), out-aced (.9 A/s-.6 A/s), out-dug (17.9 D/s-16.5 D/s) and out-blocked their op-ponents (2.7 B/s-2.2 B/s) during the stretch.¢ Sophomore Tiffany Baker has led the offensive at-

tack during the streak, compiling a team-high 108 kills

and hitting a team-best .325. Defensively, Mullins has anchors the back row, averaging an impressive 5.41 digs per set.

TENNESSEE IN THE RPI¢ The initial NCAA Division I Volleyball RPI of the 2012

campaign was released recently with the Lady Vols coming in at No. 27 in the nation. After defeating Mizzou and Georgia, UT jumped six spots to No. 21 in the sec-ond week of the RPI rankings and went up three more spots after posting wins at LSU and Arkansas to No. 18. ¢ Following their win at Texas A&M, the Lady Vols

jumped two more spots to No. 16 in this week’s RPI. After a 1-1 weekend against Kentucky and Alabama, UT dropped three spots to No. 19 in the latest rankings (10/29).¢ Eight of UT’s 15 wins have come against top 76

RPI teams: Arkansas (23), Texas A&M (26), Iowa State (28), Wichita State (39), Colorado State (42), Mizzou (54), UGA (52) and LSU (76).¢ In addition, five of the Big Orange’s six losses have

come against top 25 RPI squads: Florida State (9), twice vs. Kentucky (15), BYU (17) and Arkansas (23). ¢ The SEC has five teams in the top 30 and eight

squads in the top 55 of the RPI rankings: Florida (11), Kentucky (15), Tennessee (19), Arkansas (23), Texas A&M (26), Georgia (52), Missouri (54) and Auburn (55).

CAN YOU DIG IT?¢ After posting a season-high 98 digs at home

against Mizzou (Oct. 5), the Lady Vols bested that mark just five days later when they tied a Tennessee

and finished with a 6-3 mark in those matches. ¢ The five-set win at LSU (Oct. 10) was the Lady

Vols’ third straight win in five, marking just the sec-ond time in program history the team has won back to back to back five-setters. ¢ UT defeated South Carolina, Auburn and Ken-

tucky in consecutive five-setters in 2008.¢ This year is just the second time the Big Orange

has ever won two pairs of back to back five-setters in the same season. The Lady Vols also beat Iowa State (Aug. 25) and Colorado State (Aug. 31) in consecutive five-setters earlier this campaign.¢ Tennessee fought back from a two-set deficit

against Georgia (Oct. 7). It was the 16th win after being down 0-2 in school history. From 1997 to 2008, the team was only able to accomplish the feat once. Since 2009, the Lady Vols have won one match in that fashion each season.

TENNESSEE vs. THE TOP 25¢ Through 21 matches, the Lady Vols have faced

three opponents ranked in the top 25 and four that were receiving votes in the poll. Florida is currently ranked 13th in the AVCA poll.¢ UT is 2-1 against teams in the top 25 this season

with wins over then-No. 10 Iowa State and then-No. 24 Colorado State. The Big Orange’s loss was against then-No. 12 Florida State in the season opener. The Lady Vols also lost to a BYU squad that is now ranked 17th in the weekly poll.¢ The Lady Vols’ two wins over ranked teams are

the only wins over non-conference opponents ranked in the top 25 for SEC teams.¢ Tennessee went 4-2 in matches against ranked

opponents in 2011, with a pair of wins over Florida (No. 6 & No. 13), a victory over No. 16 Kentucky and a win against No. 21 Dayton.¢ En route to its NCAA Regional Final appearance,

the Big Orange defeated a rally-scoring record six ranked teams in 2004. UT shared the SEC title and captured the SEC Tournament title that season.

TENNESSEE ON THE ROAD¢ Tennessee is 6-2 in true road matches this sea-

son, with wins over Wichita State, Maryland, Alabama, LSU, Arkansas and most recently Texas A&M. UT also has three wins at a neutral location on the campaign.¢ In 2011, the Big Orange finished with a 14-3 re-

cord in matches away from Thompson-Boling Arena, including a 3-1 mark in a neutral location. ¢ Dating back through the 2008 campaign, the

Lady Vols are 44-17 (.721) in true road matches. UT is 71-40 (.639) in away matches dating back through the 2004 season.

rally scoring record with 106 scoops at LSU (Oct. 10).¢ UT has recorded 50 or more digs in 18 of 21 match-

es this season and has combined for 519 scoops - for an average of 17.90 per set - in its last seven matches. ¢ With its recent performances, Tennessee has

climbed to fifth in the SEC in the category with an average of 15.89 digs per set. In SEC matches only, UT ranks second in the category (17.12/Set).

SHE CAN DIG IT¢ Mullins, a two-time winner of the SEC’s Defensive

Player of the Week award, posted a career-best 34 digs against Mizzou (Oct. 5) and 32 scoops at LSU (Oct. 10). She became just the third Lady Vol to record at least two matches with 30 or more digs in a single season. This past weekend, she almost notched her third 30-dig match, with 29 against Kentucky (Oct. 26).¢ Her 34 digs at Mizzou stands as the seventh-

highest single-match total in school history and the second most in the 25-point rally scoring era. It was also the fifth highest total in the SEC this season.¢ The Nashville native has started every match at li-

bero for UT this season and upped her average to 4.35 digs per set. Mullins has posted 12 or more digs in all 12 conference matches this season and currently ranks fifth in the SEC in digs pet set. In league matches only, she ranks third with 4.73 scoops per game.¢ Mullins is looking to become the 13th Lady Vol to

join the 1,000-dig club for her career. She currently has 985 career digs.

THROWING IT AROUND ¢ Over the past seven matches, Tennessee has

dished out a combined 378 assists for an average of 13.69 per set, including 319 from sophomore setter Mary Pollmiller. Pollmiller, who shattered UT’s single season assists records last season, is averaging 11.00 dimes per game over the last seven and handed out 46 in just three sets at Texas A&M (10/19) for a 15.33 per game average.¢ With Pollmiller’s ability to spread it around, Ten-

nessee has climbed to second place in the SEC with a season average of 13.17 assists per game. In SEC matches only, the Lady Vols rank third at an even 13.00 helpers per frame.¢ Tennessee has posted 50 or more assists in 13 of

21 matches this season.

FABULOUS IN FIVE¢ UT has played a league-high eight five-setters

through 21 matches this season and holds a 6-2 record in those matchups.¢ The eight five-set matches this year are more than

the Lady Vols have played all season in six of the last 10 campaigns. UT played 9 five-setters last season

pearances in the regular season in 2012. UT, which ap-peared on the network at Mizzou and Kentucky, made its third and final appearance on ESPNU at LSU (10/10). ¢ The Big Orange hosted Alabama (10/28) on Fox

SportSouth this and plays at Florida on CSS this weekend.¢ Since 2001, Tennessee has played 11 matches on

ESPN’s networks and is 6-5 in those matches. Since 2009, UT is 13-6 in TV matches. The Big Orange is 1-3 on TV this season.¢ The Orange & White owns an overall record of 21-

21 in televised matches dating back to 2001.

ROBINSON EARNS MEMBERSHIP¢ Heading into the break at LSU (10/10), Robinson

pounded her 998th and 999th career kills to comeback and win the second set, 26-24. Right after the break, the Bartlett, Ill., native slammed down another - her 1,000th career kill in the Big Orange uniform.¢ With that kill, she became one of just 18 Lady Vols

to eclipse the 1,000-kill plateau. She enters this match in 15th place all-time with 1,069 kills.¢ Below is a chart of UT’s 1,000-kill club:

RECORD WATCH¢ Mullins currently sits at 985 career digs, just 15 shy

of joining the 1,000-dig club. With Robinson reaching the club first, Mullins will become the 13th member. Last season, she finished with 471 digs. In 2012, she has scooped 365 balls through 21 matches. ¢ Below is a chart of UT’s 1,000-dig club:

DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE¢ Robinson, the defending SEC Player of the Year,

currently leads the SEC with 15 double-doubles on the season. Robinson did not achieve the feat in the sea-son opener against Florida State, but reached double digits in two categories in 11-straight matches.¢ This past weekend, Robinson - who led the league

in double-doubles last season (23) - had 17 kills and 12 digs against Kentucky and 13 kills and 12 digs against Alabama to move back into the SEC lead in the category. ¢ She now has 42 career double-doubles.

20/20 VISION¢ Against South Carolina (9/23), Robinson recorded

21 kills and 22 digs, marking her third 20/20 match of the season and the fifth of her career. While it’s not an of-ficial stat, it’s certainly a rare feat in the UT record books.¢ Since 2001, only six different players have reached

the 20 mark in two statistical categories in a single match on just 14 occasions.¢ Below is a chart of UT’s 14 20/20 matches since 2001:

POLLMILLER PASSES 2K¢ With her 36th assist at home vs. Arkansas (9/21),

Pollmiller became the seventh player in Tennessee history to cross the 2,000-assist mark for her career.¢ As a freshman, she set UT single season rally

scoring records in assists (1,480) and assists per set (11.94). She led all NCAA freshmen in assists per set, while ranking fourth in the nation and first in the SEC.¢ She was tabbed SEC Freshman of the Year and an

AVCA Honorable Mention All-American. In addition, the rookie garnered AVCA All-South Region Fresh-man of the Year, SEC All-Freshman Team and AVCA All-South Region Team honors. ¢ Below is a chart of UT’s 2,000-assist club:

POLLMILLER TRIPLE-DOUBLE¢ With her 49-assist, 14-dig and 11-kill performance at

Wichita State (9/2), Pollmiller became just the second player in program history to record the rare triple-double.¢ Pollmiller and Ole Miss’ Amanda Philpot have the

SEC’s only triple-doubles this season. Philpot tallied 11 kills, 14 digs and 36 assists vs. Rice and added a 10-kill, 12-dig and 40-assist performance vs. rival Mississippi State. ¢ Pollmiller is currently tied for fourth in the confer-

ence with 11 double-doubles on the season.¢ Tennessee legend Nikki Fowler was the only other

UT player to achieve the triple-double for the Lady Vols. As a freshman, Fowler went for 19 kills, 19 assists and 18 digs at Ole Miss on Nov. 2, 2007. She finished her career (2007-10) with 1,649 kills and 1,281 digs, ranking fourth in kills and sixth in digs in the UT record books.

BACK IN TOP FORM¢ A little over a year removed from a knee injury

that cost her what was supposed to be her senior sea-son at UT, Kayla Jeter had the breakout performance she had been waiting for against Georgia (10/7). The All-American posted a career-best 27 kills, breaking her previous mark of 23 set as a sophomore at Ken-tucky, and hit .444 against the Bulldogs with 12 digs to notch her first double-double of the season.¢ The 27 kills from the Solon, Ohio native ranks as the

second-highest single-match total in the SEC this year.¢ The outside hitter has 134 kills on the season.

LADY VOLS BREAK HITTING RECORD¢ The Lady Vols played a historical match against

Boston College (9/8) this season, hitting .639 as a team to break a single-match record that stood for nearly 32 years. UT had 48 kills on 72 attacking at-tempts with only two errors - a rally scoring era best. Tennessee allowed just 38 points against, the second fewest in the rally scoring era.¢ The hitting percentage clip bested the previous

record of .607 that was set on Sept. 19, 1980 in a loss against Cal State Fullerton.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS¢ After posting a 4-5 record through non-confer-

ence action, the Mississippi State Bulldogs have lost 13 consecutive SEC matches to bring their overall record to 4-18 and league mark to 0-13. MSU’s last win came at Tulane on Sept. 7. Last week, Mississippi State lost in straight sets to Florida and LSU. The Bulldogs have lost nine consecutive in three frames.¢ The strength of the Mississippi State squad all sea-

son has been its defensive play in the back row. The Bull-dogs currently rank fourth in the SEC in digs per set with an average of 16.36, just one slot ahead of the Lady Vols.¢ Leading the Bulldog defense is freshman libero

Roxanne McVey. The Magnolia, Texas, native is by far and away the SEC’s leader in digs per set with an aver-age of 5.45 digs per frame. She has a league-leading 420 scoops entering the match.¢ McVey’s digs per set average also ranks 21st in the

country. She has the Bulldogs ranked 66th in the nation in the category. She has the two highest single-match dig performances in the conference this season. McVey posted 50 against LSU and 42 vs. Kennesaw State. ¢ Leading Mississippi State on the offensive end,

freshman outside hitter Taylor Scott has 209 kills for an average of 2.09 per set. She ranks 20th in the SEC in the category. ¢ Jenny Hazelwood – a former volleyball standout at

Mississippi State – is in her fourth year at the helm of the Bulldogs. The former setter owns a 36-77 record at Missis-sippi State and a career head coaching mark of 124-300.

SCOUTING THE GATORS¢ The Gators enter their Friday night showdown

with Georgia at 18-3 overall and sit atop the SEC with a perfect 12-0 league record. Florida had won 14 con-secutive matches until then-No. 12 Florida State swept UF in a non-conference matchup last week. ¢ Florida is 12-2 in three set matches, with eight

of those sweeps coming in conference action. After losing to the Seminoles last Wednesday, Florida dis-mantled MSU, 25-11, 25-8, 25-11 on Friday night. In ad-dition to Florida State, the Gators also lost to then-No. 2 Texas and then-No.9 and now-No.1 Stanford.¢ With the exception of digs and assists, Florida

ranks in the top four in every statistical category in the SEC. The Gators lead the league in hitting percentage (.312) and aces (1.45), and rank third in kills per set (14.19) and opponent hitting percentage (.175). The Ga-tors’ .312 attacking clip ranks them second in the na-tion, while their kills per set average comes in at 15th.¢ Upperclassmen Chloe Mann and Tangerine Wiggs

rank first and second, respectively, in hitting percent-age in the SEC. Mann leads the team with a .440 clip, while Wiggs is hitting .409. Mann also ranks fifth in the league in kills per set (3.79) and rookie Ziva Recek is fourth in the category with 3.82 kills per game.
