ASSIGNMENT 2
TENDERING AND ESTIMATING
TASK
You have been selected as a cost advisor by “X” contractors (Pvt) Ltd, for commercial building complex
comprising two structures of ten stories each. “X” who is an eligible contractor will submit their tender with
priced BOQ within time. It is to be expected after the tender evaluation that “X” contractors (Pvt) Ltd. is the
lowest and expected the project to be awarded to them and in anticipation of such project.
Your role would be to make aware for success in this project.
Your special attention should be drawn into the following points and prepare your individual report.
P2.1 Explain how do you collect data to build up unit cost such as labour plant and material.
P2.2 Analyse how do you apply coverage rules while you are using SMM7 or CESSM 3 to build up a unit rate
(provide examples).
P2.3 Prepare a method statement suitable for building a unit cost using. Cost of material including terms of
supply, handling etc,
P2.4 Calculate a unit cost for following items.
i. Trench excavation for depth of 1m in a firm soil to 15m length (width of trench to be assumed and
stated).
ii. Superstructure brick work in 1:5 cement mortars, 1B thick walls (for 100m2)
iii. Calculate a unit rate for concrete 1:2:4, 20mm (grade 20) aggregate (for 1m3).
Note: Assumption that of the prices of material, labour and overhead mark up to be attached in logical
and professional manner.
P3.1 Explain how the bills of quantities used to build up commercial estimates.
P3.2 Describe the critical factors which might affect the profit margin in a construction organization.
P3.4 Describe the critical factors which might affect the overhead cost, in a construction organization.
P4.3 Analyse the selecting forms of contact for variety of construction.
The document shall be word-processed or neatly hand written on one side of A4 papers and neatly present as a
bound document.
