‘Who wrote these songs?”

“Who’s singing?”

Those were the two questions the boys from Tenderfoot were asked by the first violin player of the English Session Orchestra when she came back into the control room of Abbey Road’s Studio 3 last October. It would continue this way throughout the day, as the band continued to get glances

through the glass from the orchestra with each new song recorded. The feeling was mutual, and hairs were on end. The work had made an impression, the band was still unknown.

It’s November 2015, and the newly formed Sydney band had just finished their first East Coast Tour

on the back of their debut single. Tonight was their hometown show; a sold out Brighton Up Bar. Packed wall to wall with friends and local fans, there wasn’t much industry in the room. Just the ever faithful team from Audio Network, for whom frontman John Vella is also a composer. Global head of music Ali Johnson had just landed in Sydney, and made his way straight from the airport to the show. The next day Ali offered the band the opportunity to work at Abbey Road, have their album orchestrated, and use those famous pianos from those Beatles albums. Needless to say, a new

partnership was born. The 12 months to follow would see the band team up with UK songwriter/producer Julian Emery and work tirelessly to complete a debut album that would

undoubtedly be their best work.

TO BE YOUNG (Due early 2018) follows the success of their 2016 EP BEGINNINGS, which featured tracks that received multiple syncs, including placements on Disney Channel, Spanish Moto GP,

Davis Cup Highlights, Teen Moms UK, Ex On The Beach and Numerous BBC radio shows. Tracks ‘The Balcony’ and ‘Chasing The Rain’ were both featured on Triple j’s Home and Hosed and

Roots N All programs, with ‘The Balcony’ being added to rotation on Double J and ‘Chasing The Rain’ garnering over 500K plays on Spotify.

Pairing up with Emery (Nothing But Thieves) was the perfect match. The first two singles were

written between Sydney and London, via Skype and shared Dropbox sessions, with both a sense of

ease and excitement. The arrangements took shape organically, with Vella and fellow Tenderfoot member Anthony Donlon composing the string arrangements themselves before the band travelled

to London to join Julian and continue work. Also enlisted were the talents of long time Australian collaborator, Producer/Engineer Ryan Miller (Will I Am, Angus and Julia Stone), UK Mix Engineer

Adam Noble (Paul McCartney, U2) and Mastering Engineer Paul Stefanidis (Lenny Kravitz).

Dubbed as “High Octane Melancholy”, lead single THE BALANCE was released on October 24 to strong reviews.

“Tenderfoot have orchestrated a daring and cinematic new approach to their sonic landscape with new single, The Balance… His falsetto, at times, sits between Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon

and the Middle East’s Jordan Ireland—hauntingly beautiful and tense at the same time…. ‘To Be Young’, Tenderfoot’s upcoming album, is set to a world class affair.”

- AAA Backstage

With much anticipation around the upcoming record, a run of stripped back showcases was lined up across the US in September, including sets at The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Rockwood Music

Hall in New York and Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles. The tour was a success, seeing multiple opportunities open up for the band in the territory.

Returning to hometown Sydney, the guys are ready to showcase at Australian Music Week in November. Tenderfoot are a live band, and feature some of Australia’s heaviest players, who’ve

played some of the world’s larger stages. Playing live is a joy for the band, and they can’t wait to get their touring chapter on the road.

Their chemistry is infectious, and their craft undeniable. With some luck and hard work, the release of

TO BE YOUNG in 2018 will see Tenderfoot become an international act.

Tenderfoot support Birds Of Tokyo and British India at Get Your Groove On Fest on Feb 17.

“Sydney indie four-piece Tenderfoot have had a meteoric run since releasing their 2016 EP, Beginnings, having racked up local and international airplay for their tracks The Balcony and Chasing The Rain as well as recording the bulk of their impending debut album, To Be Young, at none other

than the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London.” - The Music

“'The Balance' is Tenderfoot at their absolute best; impassioned, complex and engrossing.” - Music Insight
