INTRODUCTION TO OUR STUDY

When we talk about the attributes of God we are talking about:

His NATURE (Character)

His CHARACTERISTICS (Traits)

His EXCELLENCIES (Perfection)

His GLORY

The attributes in our study areNOT the only ones in Scripture.

However, my prayer is that thesewill give you a betterappreciation of who God is.

Why study God’s Attributes?

Job 22:21

Acquaint now thyself with him, andbe at peace: thereby good shall comeunto thee.

What practical reason is there for the Christian, to

know GOD more?

1. So that we can WORSHIP GOD properly

John 4:23-24

… the hour cometh, and now is, whenthe true worshippers shall worshipthe Father in spirit and in truth: forthe Father seeketh such to worshiphim. (24) God is a Spirit: and they thatworship him must worship him inspirit and in truth.

Why study God’s Attributes?

Psalm 50:21

These things hast thou done, and Ikept silence; thou thoughtest thatI was altogether such an one asthyself: but I will reprove thee, andset them in order before thine eyes.

2. So we can SEE the LORD

John 20:29 “… blessed are they that have notseen, and yet have believed.”

1Peter 1:8 “Whom having not seen, ye love; inwhom, though now ye see him not, yet believing,ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory”

How can we SEE God in this age?

The way to see God is to come to know Him through a study of His character as

revealed in the Scriptures.

3. To have a more PERSONAL relationship with GOD

A personal relationship with God requires that we know God

personally, as a Person.

Why study God’s Attributes?

John 17:3

And this is life eternal, that theymight know thee the only true God,and Jesus Christ, whom thou hastsent.

The LORD focuses on relationships BEFORE service

Revelation 2:4

Nevertheless I have somewhatagainst thee, because thou hast leftthy first love.
