Palm Sunday: Our Lenten journey climaxes in this celebration of Holy Week. Our liturgy begins with Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, but the reading of the Passion invites us to walk with Jesus through suffering and death as well. God’s promise is fullness of life, but often we cling instead to the empty promises of life that the world offers: power, fame and material wealth. To what must we die in order to live more fully with Christ and to share his life? Domingo de Ramos: Nuestro viaje cuaresmal encuentra su clímax en la celebración de la Semana Santa. Monday Holy Week

Noticing Hidden Suffering “If one member suffers, all suffer together with it. You are the body of Christ and individually members of it (1 Cor 12:26-27)

Can we be compassionate to those whose suffering remains hidden from the eyes of the world: There is much hidden suffering: the suffering of the teenager who does not feel se-cure; the suffering of the husband and wife who feel that there is no love left between them; the suffering of the wealthy executive who thinks that people are more interested in his money than in him; the suffering of the gay man or woman who feels isolated from family and friends; the suffer-ing of the countless people who lack caring friends, satisfying work, a peaceful home, a safe neighborhood; the suffering of millions who feel lonely and wonder if life is worth living. Once we look downward instead of upward on the ladder of life, we see the pain of people wherever we go, and we hear the call of compassion wherever we are. Jesus, help me notice those suffering and in need.

Notando el sufrimiento oculto “Si un miembro sufre, todos sufren junto con él. Usted es el

cuerpo de Cristo e individualmente miembros de él.” (1 Cor 12: 26-27)

¿Podemos ser compasivos con aquellos cuyo sufrimiento per-manece oculto a los ojos del mundo? Hay mucho sufrimiento oculto: el sufrimiento del adolescente que no se siente seguro; el sufrimiento del esposo y la esposa que sienten que no queda amor entre ellos; el sufrimiento del ejecutivo rico que piensa que la gente está más interesada en su dinero que en él; el sufrimiento del hombre o mujer gay que se siente aislado de familiares y amigos; el sufrimiento de las innumerables per-sonas que carecen de amigos cariñosos, trabajo satisfactorio, un hogar tranquilo, un vecindario seguro; el sufrimiento de millones de personas que se sienten solas y se preguntan si vale la pena vivir. Una vez que miramos hacia abajo en lugar de hacia arriba en la escalera de la vida, vemos el dolor de las personas donde quiera que vayamos, y escuchamos el llamado de la compasión dondequiera que estemos. Jesús, ayúdame a notar a aquellos que sufren y necesitan.
