What’s a Template?

A template is a collection of playlists, images, App(s), RSS/Twitter feeds – CONTENT placed to play or appear in defined areas of your display.
Think of you display as a blank sheet of paper and you are creating a dynamic – changing advertisement with unlimited content!
Before you can design a template you should have the following:
a: A plan – what are you trying to show -
b: Media – have you uploaded your media / images, movies
c: Apps – what apps (weather, RSS, stock) do you need to add
d: Display – what is the resolution of the display screen How many displays Orientation (portrait – landscape)

In a basic template you have the following parts of which are referred to as “zones”. A Zone is an area in which you want a specific image or movie or event to occur/be displayed within your screen.

Use your Assets:
Add your play list (with 1 transparency) and – there you have it – dynamic content
In the template maker add some apps: time of day, date – weather etc. to your background image

Most businesses have a website – if you’re looking for a “background” for your template – use your website.
From Web to Template Background Do a screen shot – PhotoShop it . . . Set your image size to the size of your display – example 1024 x 768
Step 1 in Building a Template
When you create/build a template some of the basic preparation steps are:
Create a playlist of the images/videos/ppt/ (content) from the media/content that you have already uploaded
Make sure you have uploaded your “static” images, images (jpgs, bmps, etc.) that will be the background or some constant part of the template
If you want to display the temperature – go to Media – add Apps and add the type of Apps you want.
If you want to display web pages – have the link ready
If you want to display Twitter(s) – have the link ready and built in the Playlist category – also the same with RSS feeds

The above diagram shows you the various “zones & zone contents” of a template and the end result as displayed on a media player’s screen.
Transparency
This allows you to stagger the weather / stock or other Apps that receive their information from the Internet

When your playlist goes from 1 image to the next and is displaying the “transparent image” you will see what ever is in the zones “underneath” the playlist zone,
Using transparencies ( a “PNG” image that is clear, empty) allows you to create / display a lot of stuff.
To be used effectively – upload the transparent png image into your Media folder. And then add it
to your playlist – which can be a playlist of images, videos, ppt etc.

Below are several “menu board” template examples. You can use the same thought process to create any type of price board!

Transparent area for putting a playlist with various ads. You could also put the time/temperature behind your playlist – add a transparency to the playlist and bang – you now have a very dynamic presentation.
Put your food images in a play list and have them rotate and also – change out by time of day!
Have your entire menu change by time of day!

How To Use Pre-Made Templates
Included in the Revel Digital Portal – and sometimes provided by your ReSeller – are Pre-Made Templates. You can “load/copy and use” these pre-made Templates by goin to the Templates tab, select “add Template”, browse and select your template and your done.

Templates usually have “transparent cut-out / holes” for you to have your playlists and/or content of choice played behind. This is up to you. Try them – style!

Animation(s) can include:
. a blimp that goes in – out, behind images, in front of text – random flight
. a bee as part of the logo – coming alive and drawing attention to the days specials
. background/clouds that go by and change color by the time of day or weather . menu items – merchandise images change by time of day / temperature
