The 60-tap kit is designed for the already established sugar maker that would like to get to the next level. It includes all the material to tap 60 maple trees on tubing. The sap travels by gravity to reach a tank (not included) located at the lowest elevation point of the sugarbush. Afterwards. the sap can be pumped to another mobile tank to bring it to the sugarhouse.

The web 2.0 interface allows, among other things, producers to have remote access to the variety information provided by their Smartrek system ™ such as, the vacuum level at the end of the mainlines, the sap level in the tanks and the remote control of the maple sap equipment (vacuum pump, sap pump, automated valves, etc.). From this web interface, you can easily access the intelligence of the Smartrek system. The whole program is simplified to make the work enjoyable. You no longer have to search for information, because critical data is presented to you in a way that, at a glance allows you to know where to direct your efforts. In addition, you can manage multiple sugar bushes on the same interface without any problems.

This intelligence begins with what we call ‘Differentials’. What we need to know by monitoring the vacuum level at the end of each of the lines is the loss of “vacuum”. To do this, you have to have a reference vacuum level. This is the level of vacuum taken at the extractor before dispersing in the sugar bush, through the tubing network. So by installing a Smartrek vacuum level sensor™ directly on the extractor, it is possible to create what we call a ‘’Differential’’. In a matter of seconds, select the sensor that represents the reference vacuum level (extractor) and all the lines related to it. Your ‘’Differential’’ will then be created and will be on your web interface at all times.

The system will automatically calculate the “vacuum” loss of each of these mainlines relative to the vacuum level at the extractor. A ranking will be done and your mainlines will be presented from the worst to the best. In addition, you can add a value to each color code yourself in relation to the different levels of loss. This way, you can organize your sugar bush by vacuum pump and extractor. At a glance, it will be possible to know the problematic lines without having to work on the web interface. The goal is to accelerate information and direct all your efforts in the right place within the sugar bush, with minimal manpower.

EKQUICK ANALYSISON THE NETWORK

Let’s take the analysis of the tubing network a step further using the “Differentials” data. This data contains vital information that we need to take advantage of it. It is interesting to see, at a glance, which lines are problematic (in red). On the other hand, it is even more interesting to know how long a line has had problem during the day. What percentage of the day the line is red, yellow or green? In order to obtain this information, we have developed a ‘Performance Report’. This is gener-ated with a single click, and allows you to see the performance of each of the lines of a pumping sta-tion. This type of report provides interesting conclu-sions about the performance of the tubing network. Combined with this ‘Performance Report’, we have de-veloped a ‘Freeze Report’. Again, it is generated with a single click at the same time as the ‘Performance Report’. The goal is to make quick, simple and effec-tive analysis. The ‘Freeze Report’ allows us to know, as a percentage of the day, which lines were frozen. This is easily computed by the system taking into ac-count the reference vacuum level as well as the vac-uum level at each end of the mainlines. When the vacuum pump is running (there is data to the ref-erence sensor) and there is no vacuum at the end of the mainline, the mainline is frozen! These two types of reports are very important tools for work-ing and greatly improving the management of sugar bush leaks. In addition, it is not only a leak manage-ment tool, these reports also allow to know the weak-nesses of the tubing network such as the sizing of mainlines and the number of taps per mainline.

CHARACTERISTICSThe ultrasonic level sensor measures height, bin or tank level. Various beam patterns can be available upon request. The measured target can be either hard, soft or liquid.

CHARACTERISTICS The handheld gateway connects to an Android mobile device. It gives you access to all the data on your network, no matter where you are in the sugarbush and even while fixing leaks!

Since the gateway for mobile uses radio waves, there is no need for a cellphone or an internet network. With this equipment the employees assigned to leak monitoring can communicate with each other using text messages.

CHARACTERISTICSThe repeater is also used to cross great distance. Indeed, in direct line of sight, 2 sensors or repeaters can be more than 4 miles apart and communicate between them without issue.

CHARACTERISTICSCommunication within the system is orchestrated by a single piece of equipment: the long-range gateway. All the information and measurements gathered by the different sensors on the network are sent to the gateway. CHARACTERISTICSOf industrail design, this probe is used to measure the water height in all types of tanks, no mattertheir size whatever the height. It might be a refrigerated closed tank, or in vertical silo, the piezometer probe will provide a precise reading of the water height level.

CHARACTERISTICS Paired with up to 4 floats, this sensor is often used as a water level in a zero vacuum tank. The 4 floats, installed at different heights, will indicate where the level is, without being affected by the vacuum in the tank. This sensor is the only option to know the level in a zero vacuum tank!

The smallest ones in our line, these extractors are made to reach high levels of vacuum. The models with the 7 gal./min. pump are sufficient enough for 3 000 taps where the 15 gal./min. models can reach 5 000 taps.The top lid offers an easy access to internal components so it allows a quick and efficient cleaning. Furthermore, they drain themselves rapidly from the bottom valve. You now have the choice to select your extractor with or without manifold.

1836 VERTICAL EXTRACTORSFor bigger sugarbushes, the 18’’ models can go up to 20 000 taps. Available either horizontal or vertical and ranging from 1 to 4 pumps, these sturdy extractors are designed to offer a high vacuum efficiency that will meet your high yield expectations.

Available with or without manifold, each extractor’s capacity depends on the number of pumps it has, each of these pumps 30 gal./min is made for approximately 5 000 taps. Each manifold is now designed with a plastic mesh therefore protecting the extractor’s mechanical components.

Today’s technology is changing, rapidly and the maple industry is no exception. The technology related to the sap collection has evolved so much that it is possible to produce larger amounts of syrup with the same amount of taps. This is due to higher levels of vacuum and the ability to achieve a leak free collection system. We are reaching vacuum levels that have never been achieved before with the arrival of new, more efficient vacuum pumps. Studies have even shown that an additional 5% in sap yield per inch of mercury obtained. However, care must be taken, because obtaining the ‘high vacuum’ has highlighted the weaknesses of the collection systems. Field observations have made it possible to realize that the ‘high vacuum’ creates more leaks on the network, especially when moving from -25inHg to -28inHg. As the vacuum increases, so does the number of micro-leaks. Throughout the analyses, it was possible to observe in the field that there are components of the network that freeze at temperatures above freezing, even at -25inHg. We must therefore be careful, because the ‘high vacuum’ also brings its share of negative impacts such as the loss of yield, caused by the freezing of the tubing. This can be a large loss of the total amount of sap that will be harvested in a season. The ultimate goal is therefore to reach the highest possible vacuum, without exposing the collection system to premature freezing, depending on the ambient temperature.

It is proven that the temperature of the ambient air will cool when it is under vacuum (leaks will allow ambient air to enter the vacuum tubing). H2O Innovation therefore innovates with its automatic vacuum control ‘Antifreeze’. It allows you to control the vacuum level of your vacuum pump depending on the outside temperature. According to a specific chart, it will control the vacuum level to avoid freezing in the collection network. Equipped with a temperature probe installed outside the pumping station, the control opens a proportional valve to adjust the vacuum level of your pump. In addition, for vacuum pumps with variable speeds, the “Antifreeze” automatic vacuum control will also modulate the speed of the vacuum. The advantage of the “Antifreeze” is that it works for all types of pumps, whether they are single-phase or three-phase. Of course, the action programmed according to a chart, can be easily modified by the user at any time. The H2O Innovation Antifreeze is therefore an ideal tool to help you reach the full potential of your collection network.

When installing a high pressure pump, it’s important to also install a high pressure protection. The safety valve from H2O is adjustable and manages pressures from 0 to 300 PSI, covering most pump station installations. If the pump line is frozen, or blocked, the relief valve will open at the desired pressure to recirculate the sap towards your tanks. Ultrafiltration allows you to clarify maple sap which has the effect of removing all the impurities sap contains. The process of clarification by ultrafiltration is still not well known by maple producers but it enables them to disinfect maple water for a bottling process. This type of unit can also work with birch water. Sap processed through an ultrafiltration membrane can be stored in a tank for a longer period of time, without loss of quality. The filtration unit allows you to keep more than 98% of water, contrary to a standard reverse osmosis unit which will retain around 80% of water.

The craze for the famous birch syrup is growing. Indeed, over the years, this product has become an ingredient of choice for cooking. Very trendy in the kitchens of great chefs, birch syrup has a sweet and smoky taste of molasses, combined with a bitterness in the finish reminiscent of balsamic. Its unique taste makes it very distinctive. It is also increasingly used by mixologists to complement different cocktails. Although, the majority of production is in the Canadian and U.S. West, producers in eastern Canada and the U.S. are interested, and some have already started production. Demand for this product is increasing, so we can expect to see more utilization of the birch forests.

The full range of equipment offered by H2O Innovation, normally dedicated to the maple world, is also used for the production of birch syrup. However, the properties of birch sap make production and processing different. Indeed, the birch flow is much larger than that of maple, so more tanks are needed to store the sap. Because birch sap is lower brix, the processing differs from that of maple.

Birch sap is composed mainly of fructose compared to maple sap, which is composed largely of sucrose. This makes the scorching point of birch sap lower than that of maple. Therefore, birch sap should not be worked in the same way as maple on the evaporator. When it’s time to choose your equipment, trust our experts to properly size the necessary equipment.

The Concentrator is a small reverse osmosis system developed for the maple producer getting started. This equipment can concentrate between 200 and 300 gallons / hour at up to 10 Brix while using 2 to 3 membranes. What is High Brix and why choose this option?These last years, many technologies showed up on the market to fill a primary need of maple producers : to diminishproduction cost and improve time management. Electric evaporators, pellets, even wood chips are interesting options.More expensive to purchase, these technologies will require modifying the cooking methods, and will often involve equallycostly modifications of your installations such as the power supply or the addition of silo. In fact, the need to save onoperating costs drive today’s sugar makers to make a hard decision. For 7 years, H2O Innovation’s High Brix patentedtechnology brought savings, of course, but much more. Here is a list of many important criteria that should now beconsidered into the equation of a producer that would like to reduce costs while improving life quality.

• SYRUP TASTE: It would be pretentious to say that the High Brix syrup is better than syrup made with other technologies. The evaporation technique, on the other hand, is clearly different. A force of nature The Tsunami evaporator is the biggest and best performing wood fired evaporator offered by H2O Innovation. Its optimized design makes it one of the best high performance evaporators on the market. The boiling is done continuously, without heat peaks, thanks to the constant temperature of the insulated combustion chamber. Therefore, this allows for a continuous and stable flow. This evaporator includes a fan with variable control to produce optimum combustion regardless of the type of wood used. The operation of the Tsunami is simple and allows you to maximize your work without requiring more effort. The efficiency of the Tsunami can be increased as it is possible to convert it into a High Brix finishing rig.
