OVERVIEW
Welcome to the fifth edition of the Telmap metrics report, summarizing usage and activity for the fourth
quarter of 2011.
Looking at the fourth quarter of 2010 and the fourth quarter of 2011, we noticed an interesting pattern
with relatively high numbers of kilometers driven in October and December, and a relative decline in
such activity in November.
In addition, in Q4, 2011 we see a significant increase in searches for shopping and fun related places,
which may be indicative of holiday shopping that’s typical to that time of year. In addition, we see a
significant increase in search for specific cities, which again may be related to family visits out of town
during the holiday season.
Q2, 2011 was the first quarter where Telmap saw the number of new activations on Android devices
surpassing the number of new activations on iOS. This trend continued into Q3, 2011 and in Q4 this
trend has flipped and Android fell second to the iOS. Most likely, this is due to the launch of the popular
iPhone 4S which happened during the 4th quarter. We anticipate a close race between Android and iOS
in 2012 for the top two leading platforms for Telmap users.
We are proud to share our key metrics and hope you enjoy the report and find it useful.

Q4 numbers are not comparable to summer months, but the significant growth from Q4, 2010, indicating a
steep upwards trends is clearly visible.

in address searches.

o In Q4, 2010 we see a significant increase in searches for shopping and fun related places, which
may be indicative of holiday shopping that’s typical to that time of year. In addition, we see a
significant increase in search for specific cities, which again may be related to family visits out of
town during the holiday season.
o We see a slight shift in the split between searches for a specific brand (e.g. Ikea, McDonald’s) which
went down from 50% in Q3 to 40% in Q4, 2011. Respectively, the searches for more general POI
categories (e.g. Hotel, Sushi, Airport) went up from 50% in Q3 to 60% in Q4, 2011.

Although iPhone’s share of the top 10 went slightly down, it’s still the leading device with 40% of our
active users. Samsung devices altogether comprise 47% of the top 10 devices chart (up from 31% last
quarter), with 19% of them being Android devices and 28% Bada devices. Blackberry has three devices on
the list but with a declining share of 13%.

When it comes to new users, we can see that iPhone is the leader here too, with a growing share (39% in
Q3), most likely because of the launch of the popular iPhone 4S in Q4, 2011.

This quarter, the leading platform picture has flipped again and Android fell second to the iOS. Most likely,
this is once again due to the iPhone 4S launch during the quarter. We anticipate a close race between

New activations by mobile operating system –2011
Last quarter we were curious to see how Q4 will shape up with the planned launches of both the iPhone
4S and Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Judging from the Telmap numbers, which are aligned with Apple’s sales
figures, the iPhone 4S is an extremely popular device. Again, we are curious to see if the Galaxy Nexus will
appear on our radar in Q1, 2012 (and maybe change the picture once again?)
