Tell your story to the world.
I am happy and proud to write this message in Dasman what’s up. This digital newsletter is
for Dasman’s teachers, students and parents and It continues to be published on a
quarterly basis for the second year. The electronic form was chosen to be in line with the
environmental values and strategic technological goals of the school.
Last year, a team of volunteer teachers with both Rana (PR & Marketing Executive) and
Afnan (social media specialist) were tasked with the responsibility of finalizing the
structure of the newsletter. The diversity of the team was intentional to help in pooling
together different experiences and ideas.
We see the newsletter as an excellent way to keep everyone in the school community
involved and informed. Students, teachers and parents are invited to submit articles, events and activities. You
are reminded to submit your items by November 3rd in time for the next issue in December.
We encourage everyone to participate and contribute regularly to make this project successful. The articles
should be light and readable in nature and intended to be enjoyable but important enough for our dedicated and
loved students.
Dear Parents,
I do hope you have all enjoyed a wonderful summer break and that the children are looking forward to
returning to school. Staff have been busy in school since Sunday, 25Th August in preparation for the start of
semester and we are all looking forward to welcoming our students.
I am delighted to update you on the new facilities to our campus. We worked tirelessly during the summer to
finalize the renovation of Dasman 2 (Middle School) and furnished it with a state-of-the-art gym, science labs,
computer labs, a robotic lab, multipurpose room and a covered canteen area.
We are also proud to announce that we have a new central mosque for boys and girls in the same building. The
style and interior of the mosque reflects the traditional Kuwaiti design and it is a reflection of our sincere
attempts to embed the Islamic ethos and ethics in our youth.
The wellbeing center is another facility that is unique in its nature and intent. It is the one and only center in
private schools that will work on promoting positivity and enhance character education in our young
population.
The state of art “Reading Area” and “Biodome” will complement our vision of thinking outside the classroom boundaries and inculcate a
culture of reading. Our students from pre-K to grade 12 will enjoy these facilities and benefit from the programs that we planned to use
them to full potential.
In order to ensure implementation of environmental goals for this academic year, we are pleased to announce partnerships with “Omniya”
Recycling and “EPA” for protection of the ecosystem.
We have very experienced staff here at DBS and we work really hard to communicate effectively with parents. All official correspondence
will be our portal. Please sign up and communicate with your classroom teachers and administrators.
All principals will assign two days a week to meet parents and attend to their needs. As instructional leaders, the rest of the time will be
utilized visiting classrooms and mentoring teachers and students. Please support our principals to do their job by requesting an
appointment in advance from the office. We are all here for the students and we would like to spend our time attending to their needs.
Thank you all for your continuous support to DBS and its staff.
Yours sincerely,
Samar Dizmen
Superintendent
DBS, in collaboration with Omniya, has signed an agreement to launch an important
project at our school. We aim to sensitize our students to the global cause of recycling to
preserve our environment.
WHAT IS E-LEARNING?
E- Learning is learning utilizing electronic technologies to access educational
curriculum outside of a traditional classroom. In most cases it refers to either
an app or program utilized through an online platform.
While teaching can be based inside or outside of the classrooms, the use of
computers and the Internet forms the major component of E-learning.
Technology supports learning in a classroom.
At Dasman, our students use iPad’s , PC’s and Chromebook’s. We have a wide
range of software platforms to assist with our e – learning such as:
Raz Plus – For reading eBooks.
IXl – Math and Science Home Work
Britannica- Encyclopedia for research that ensures our learners are safe online.
Pearson: Math – Science – English Interactive learning
Google Classroom: Safe communication with students

Dear DBS Community, It is a great excitement to welcome you to the 2019/2020
Athletic seasons at DBS.
Our athletic program has grown tremendously over the past
five years on local and international levels. The growth
which has taken place, has enabled us to develop an
excellent reputation and become a competitive member at
conference we participate in. We aim to inspire students to
become national and global citizens by promoting Kuwaiti
identity and embracing multicultural values while competing
in a high quality atmosphere. While playing sports in Kuwait
we are challenged by the strongest international schools,
outside the State we are challenged by IB schools from all
over Europe.
DBS has a four season sports calendar during which a range of athletic activities are provided for under-14 (U14),
Junior Varsity (JV), and Varsity Boys and Girls. Our students compete in the following sports: Volleyball,
Football/Soccer, Basketball, Track and Field, Badminton and Swimming.
DBS is committed to providing a wide variety of extra -curricular activities. From Student Council to Model United
Nations (MUN) and community service to After School Activities and clubs, students have numerous
opportunities to get involved in the world around them.
As part of our continuous improvement and upscaling our sport facilities, DBS HS students have now their own
Gymnasium in addition to a fitness center, where they are able to expand their knowledge in fitness, nutrition
and over all wellbeing. DBS MS newly opened Gymnasium will give the students better Physical Education and
Health structure and establish routines for an easy transition to HS.
DBS High, Middle and SEN school athletic department and administration, understands and support the
importance of co-curricular activities. At DBS through athletics student-athletes gain an opportunity to learn and
demonstrate sportsmanship, cooperation, leadership, and teamwork. The high standards set in the classroom
carry over to the football fields, gymnasium, and pool, which make for some exciting and rigorous play. At DBS
we are proud of the success of our students and wholeheartedly believe in the power of DBS community. The
involvement of our students’ parents in their school life remains a priority for our leadership, coaches, staff and
teachers as it helps ensure the happiness of our students.
I wish all DBS students the best of luck for the year, and encourage everyone to join us for try-outs and
experience of being a real DBS Shark!

Physiotherapy (PT), is one of the services DBS provides with the aim to help students with physical conditions/disabilities. PT
programs provide evaluation and treatment for students (from K-12) who present with a functional and mobility challenges.
Therapy seeks to restore their motion and maximize their functioning within the school environment. The majority of
students benefiting from the service are within the SEN Division (D7), while the rest come from mainstream classes.
Intervention plans are designed on an individual basis after evaluating the case. The physiotherapist works then with
parents, teachers, teacher assistants and caregiver s in order to meet the selected goals. Another part of the PT program is
recommendation of assistive technology tools for better quality orthoses
(e.g. braces, splints) that help the student in his /her daily living activities
and independent movement from class to class.
Students who benefit from the service fall under the following spectrum
of conditions/diagnoses:
- Neurological disorders, such as Cerebral Palsy.
- Muscular Dystrophy.
- Post-operative rehabilitation, such as tendon-release surgeries.
- Musculoskeletal conditions that affect posture and gait.
- Balance and coordination.
- Other conditions/syndromes that involve gait deviations.
Treatment plan usually includes one or more of the following treatment
methods / techniques:
- NDT (Neurodevelopmental Techniques), Bobath.
- Soft tissue stretches, PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation).
- Neuro Rehab techniques, such as Freckle’s exercises for ataxia.
- Manual therapy techniques for musculoskeletal disorders, such as joint mobilization and manipulation.
- Gait re-education.
If you need any more information about the PT program, please do not hesitate to visit us in the Special Needs Division (D7).

About Sudoku, puzzle game and how to play?
Sudoku is one of the most popular logic-based number-placement puzzle game. The literal meaning of "Sudoku" in Japanese is "the number that is single".
The objective is to fill a nine-by-nine (9x9) grid with digits so that each row, column and 3x3 section contain number between 1 and 9, with each number used once and only once in each section. The Sudoku game players are provided with partially filled grid meant to be solved.
Who would like to participate in the SUDOKO contest can deliver the answers to Rana Massouh by hand.
