Convergence and Voice over IP (VoIP) means that IT

organisations who deal with servers, PCs and LANs are

now seeing this infrastructure being used to carry voice

calls and telephony applications to reduce costs and to

simplify the running of voice and data networks.

VoIP however presents particular challenges. If the

networks are not at the right standard and the various

system components are not setup and configured

correctly, then voice calls can suffer. Call quality is

paramount from being able to hear the conversation

without call drop outs, line errors and throughput

restrictions from either the network operator or the IT

network.

Telephony skills and data IT skills tend to be provided by

separate experts. Specifying, procuring and integrating

VoIP for example into the IT network requires both skill

sets. To save time and to ensure that the vital voice

Recent Client Case Studies.

Somerset Solicitors … A local law firm required a 45

seat Call Centre. The project involved migrating the

legacy DASS based PBX to an IP phone system

connected to IP links. The system operates on a virtual

machine. The solution provides a high level of resilience.

Ski Resort, Val d’lsere, France … With sites in

Edinburgh & France where clients pay typically £20k per

week to stay at the resort, all chalets are interconnected

and have broadband internet access. Free calls are now

enjoyed by the client including internationally between

their sites.

Logistics Firm, UK … Shipping fresh vegetables from

Africa and elsewhere into UK supermarkets requires a

24/7 operation. An IP solution with IP and ISDN lines

was successfully implemented as a hot-swap and a

managed gradual migration to ensure the network did not

suffer with any downtime. Benefits include reduction in

international call costs and ongoing support costs.
