Teenager Representation There are various different stereotypes that teenagers have to subsist. Stereotyping is the grouping of certain kinds of people based on the way they look, dress and act. Stereotyping usually occurs within teenagers, due to the fact that they haven’t achieved everything they yet want in life and want to be the best within their age group, resulting in competition. While I was researching for images to be placed on my moodboard, I found that typical teenagers tend to be more ill mannered, damaging and inappropriate. Typical teenagers on the internet consisted of mainly these types of people. This is the result of stereotyping, each teenager being portrayed in the same way. This could also be used as evidence that the media makes all teenagers look bad. However, not all of them are. I think some of the main stereotypes that teenagers have to deal with today are: Rude- teenagers tend to be shown as rude/moody towards other people, such as parents, teachers and elders. Antisocial- adults/parents tend to think teenagers are antisocial due to the fact that they normally use some sort of technology daily, whether that be a mobile phone, computer or game console. Irresponsible- Teenagers are considered to be too young and irresponsible/unorganized.

Teenager Representation

There are various different stereotypes that teenagers have to subsist. I think some of the main stereotypes that teenagers have to deal with today are:

Rude- teenagers tend to be shown as rude/moody towards other people, such as parents, teachers and elders.

Antisocial- adults/parents tend to think teenagers are antisocial due to the fact that they normally use some sort of technology daily, whether that be a mobile phone, computer or game console.

Irresponsible- Teenagers are considered to be too young and irresponsible/unorganized.

Loud- teenagers tend to be displayed as loud/outgoing.

Unmanageable- Teenagers are often presented as thugs, always trying to cause trouble and creating crimes.

I believe that there are many misconceptions about teenagers. Many people in different generations sincerely believe that teenagers are up to no good, and are guaranteed trouble no matter where they are. In my opinion these stereotypes are unfair and these stereotypes only apply to minority of teenagers. Each teenager is different and not the whole group of these people deserve to be portrayed in a negative way.
