  • Editors Note I never imagined my life would turn out the wayit is right now. Ok. Who am I kidding?! I fantasizeddaily it would be like this! I am so incredibly blessed inevery aspect of my life, and God is proving to me thatyou genuinely reap what you sow. I recently was fortunate enough to walk in Fashion Week New Orleans and in turn, received offers to further my modeling career. But what is truly amazing is the storybehind my decision to try out for Fashion Week. Although Ive strived to be a professional model since I was 16, I knew some opportunities may be limited because I am not nor will ever be a size 2. When I read the flyer for the casting call for FashionWeek, my eyes were immediately drawn to the measurements requirement of sizes I cannot naturally achieve. Deciding to forgo the instantaneousNO! I knew I would encounter, I booked a photo

shoot the day of casting instead. My great friend, Kymberly Soule (Publisher and founder of this wonderful magazine and its sister Exalte), encouraged me to not give up on my dreams of gracing runways for designers; so I made the quick decision and drove over an hour from my shoot to the casting. Hands sweating, preparing myself to be turned away, I took my photos with the photographer, walked forthe panel of judges, and plead my case when asked of my size. I left with a small feeling of hope and clung to the dream of getting a call back. Waiting to hear my fate was possibly the most nerve-racking time period of my life! I promised myself that I would not let bad news discourage me and that I would never give up on my dreams, though at times I knew I was lying to myself to keep from feeling like a failure. Three weeks later, my family and I shared tears of joy when an email titled CONGRATS! YOU GOT A CALL BACK! danced across my phone, and I immediately stopped to thank God for the opportunity. Not only did I receive a call back, I was asked to walk for five different designers and open one of the shows. I felt sohonored to be considered so highly. My experience with Fashion Week New Orleans proved to me that, if you continue to work hard for whatyou want in life, God will bless you. Sometimes, it may take almost ten years; but dedication and patience paysoff in the end. I feel on top of the world, as if I broke boundaries I set against myself; and I only want to workharder to achieve more. I hope in reading this issue, you will find your inner strength to reach for those hopes and dreams you believed tobe too far away. I want you to know that you can honestly do anything you set your mind and heart to because in the end, you hold the power within yourself. Dont ever give up; dont ever settle. And promise me that no matter how busy your lifemay become, never forget to make time for the things you love.

  • Teen Board Introduction:

In a world where you can be anything, be yourself.

  • Michelle If you have ever wished for someone to look up to, search no further! MichelleBosarge, 16, is one of the nicest and most well-rounded young women I have hadthe pleasure of working with. Besides being an amazing contributing writer to thismagazine (such articles including Girls Night: Sleepover Essentials and Pinteresting Your Room), she spends her time dancing, modeling, and volunteering. I am in agroup called SPL, which means Stay Strong, Stay Pure, Stay Lovely. Its a group ofgirls...who strive to live for God and share our kindness and time [with others], sheboasts proudly. Through the years, Michelle has excelled in dancing and now teaches classes, herself. And while she loves to model, she also enjoys being behind the camera as well. She has taken an interest in photography and knows it will surely give her anadvantage when it comes to modeling. And of course, what teenager doesnt enjoy her time with friends?! Michelles says whenever she and her besties get together, they are laughing until we cry.

Family-oriented, giving, and down-to-earth are just a few of the many ways I can describe this amazing girl. She is certainly one of our top writers and hardest workers; and even thoughshe can find herself overwhelmingly busy with school, volunteering, and extracurriculars, Michelle always findsthe time to get everything done andwith a smile on her face! Even with hermany talents blossoming, she claims she is unsure of what her career path will be. I am confident that she will beamazing at whatever she sets out to do.She has a bright future ahead!

  • Great Friends...are hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget.

The depth of friendship does not depend on the length of acquaintance. Without adoubt, Im going to have to say I agree. Kalista Duvey, a 17 year old fashion model in SanFrancisco, California tells Teen Exalte that, in the midst of her hectic life as a runway and printmodel, she sparked a connection in a chance meeting with someone; and they are now the closest of friends. Cesar Fernandez, 15, grew up in the same town as Kalista yet had never crossed paths with her until recently, when they were introduced through one of Kalistas dance students.Sometimes, timing can be everything, as Kalista was coming to see the reality of life as a professional model. Like everything else, there is a downside to it [modeling] that not manypeople get to see...shooting all day with little to no sleep, traveling over night to get to an audition the next morning, and not having much time to just...be yourself around friends. Ithink thats the toughest thing for me to deal with as a teenager. So Kalista found confort inher new friendship and soon decided to share with Cesar her love of modeling. The two did a photo shoot together and recognized they worked well with each other in front of the camera. Cesar also found a new love of modeling, as well. Shooting with [Cesar] was nothing but laughter in an attempt to be serious! Kalista tells us. To sum it all up, we are just two friends that have big dreams...and [are] determined to succeed. Truly, you never know where friendship will find you.

  • We asked the questions youre dying to know the answers to!

    Q. Should I kiss on the first date?A. It depends on how you both feel. If a girl is giving clues, go for it! Girls usually love for their guy to make the first move.

    Q. How hard could it be to get married and have kids in college?A. I can personally refer to this question. My parents, both working and taking care of two kids, went to school to better their education; and it was hard on us all. I have been preached to my whole life: Go to college right after high school; get your degree; then think about a family and kids. My parents always say that if they could do it all over again, they wouldve went to school first, completed their full education, then thought about a family. I personally think that I am going to finish school before I think about any of it! -Teen Board member, Blakley Parker

    Q. Is it wrong to talk to more than one guy at one time?A. Girls, there is nothing wrong with having options and keeping them open. Dont be exclusive with anyone if you wish to talk to more than one person. But if you do choose to have a relationship, be faithful!

    Q. Why would God do this to me?A. God will never make you go through anything that He knows you cant handle! He says in His Word that He will never leave you nor forsake you. God has your life planned out, and sometimes He puts hurdles in front of us to see if we are willing to take a leap of faith for Him. Keep your faith; stay strong; pray often; and God will get you through!

  • Whats Your ?Are you a straight & sleek kind of girl? Or do you prefer a classy updo? Whatever your choice, weat Teen Exalte know its just as important to have the perfect hair as it is to have the perfect dress. And ifyoure that DIY chick who likes to save her pennies instead of spending them in the salon, we have somegreat step-by-step hairstyles that are SO in this season!

  • Hair Styles

Here is an easy, 3-step hair style that is great for just about any length of hair. 1. Using a curling iron, create loose curls; run your fingers through them if they are too tight. 2. Spritz a strong-hold hairspray under the first couple layers of hair at your crown, and tease a bit to create volume. 3. Pull back half of your hair, securing them with bobby pins near the nape of your neck.

    Try This!

  • Hair Styles

If you have medium to long hair, this awesome braided style would stand out!

    1. Pin the front of your hair back, if needed to keep out of your face.

    2. Tease the crown of your head for added volume. Using a root spray or volume powder helps!

    3. Section off your hair into three equal parts.

    4. Braid your three sections and secure.

    5. Twist each braid to the back, and secure with bobby pins. Set with a finishing spray.

Now you have an amazing updo!

    Braids are all the rage!

  • Hair StylesShort hairstyles can be just as

    AMAZING!

We didnt forget our short-haired ladies!

    1. Curl your hair lightly with an iron.

    2. Starting from the middle of your hair, twist a section from the roots.

    3. Take another section from above your ears, and twist it in the same manner.

    4. Going around your hairline, twist sections into each, forming one large crown. Secure with hair pins.

    5. Use hairspray and a comb to hold hair in place and comb down flyaways.

    6. Spray hair well to set the style.

    7. If you choose, you can pin back your bangs with a bobby pin.

    Beautiful!
