Tee Talk – January 2017 Page 1 Message from the President First, let me wish to all of our members, friends and the staff of the CCC a very Happy New Year. I wish in this new year the best for all of you, your family, and dear and near ones, with a lot of health and blessings for all of you, congratulations. I commented last month, about the Cruz Roja annual tournament, that the CCC has been sponsoring for a lot of years. I want to say again about the importance that this tournament has for this so beneficial institution, in order to highlight for future BOD the importance of continuing our support to them. Last Thursday, 12/22/16, several people from the Cruz Roja, Ms Yolanda Martinez - their BOD President, Mr. Ben White - President of the Lake Chapala Society, Don Fraser, Sheila Paull - volunteers and several others from the Cruz Roja, came to CCC just to thank us and to assure us that with the funds gathered through the tournament together with other donations, was able to purchase a brand new ambulance for the Cruz Roja Chapala. They brought the new ambulance to show us. Ms. Martinez told us that the last time that a brand new ambulance was donated to the Cruz Roja was more than 30 years ago. They wanted to gratefully acknowledge that this would have been only be possible because of this tournament and the support of the CCC membership, our staff, and the BOD. Thanks to all of you in the name of the Cruz Roja Chapala. The preparations for our next AGM, to be held on Saturday January 28, 2017 continue. The information package for the meeting was completed, assembled, and published in accordance with our By-Laws. I want to emphasize about one issue that I have noticed is perturbing some of our members. It is about the increase on the monthly fees that we had the need to suggest as part of the 2017 operational budget. An increase from $1925 to $2368 pesos, which represents a 23% increase but at the same time we have to take into consideration that the Capital share decreased from $500 to $170 pesos. So both together represents only an increment of $113 pesos, equivalent to an increase of only 4.66% but that is in Mexican pesos. If we consider that the Mexican peso against the USA dollar, has had a devaluation of around 75% from 2013 to 2016, we can very easily understand that in terms of US dollars we are paying now is much less than we were paying in 2013. If we want to compare only what we were paying in 2016 to what we will pay in 2017, the devaluation that we had only during 2016 was near 25%. So again, in terms of the US dollar, we will be paying less in 2017 than in 2016, even with the 23% increment. It is not a consolation, I agree but we have to face the reality since we know that the exchange rate together with the increase in the gasoline prices will impact all the input prices. As I commented last month, Mauricio, tendered his resignation to the Club. He was with us until the NYE. Fortunately Carlos, our GM, in a very expeditiously, found among his contacts other potential candidates to replace Mauricio. Together we considered the resumes from these candidates and along with Rob Edwards, our Greens Director and with the approval from the BOD, we made a decision in favor of Mr. Miguel Angel Flores, to take the position of Greens Superintendent replacing Mauricio. Among other things, we found in Miguel Angel the following advantages: Agronomist Engineer with more than 20 years of experience as superintendent of golf courses. He has been responsible for the care of the Atlas and the Santa Anita Country Clubs and others. His last job was as agronomic manager with the Atlas Country Club for the foot ball soccer fields. He is already living in the area between the Atlas CC, on the main road between Chapala and Guadalajara and the CCC. He will try to begin with us on Monday 01/16/17. We welcome Miguel Angel. After all of the Christmas and NYE festivities, I think it is time to return to our normal and enjoyable rounds of golf. Enjoy them! Sincerely, Jose Diaz Tee Talk

Sinceramente,

José Díaz

Mulholland believed himself to be a superior caddie. He certainly had a superior attitude towards the man whose clubs he carried, ever since he had caddied for Lee Trevino. Each time his client asked for a 5-wood, the boy would sneer,”Lee Trevino used a 4-iron from here.” And so it continued all the way around. The caddie recommended the clubs Trevino would have used, and the golfer’s game went rapidly from bad to worse. Finally, at the 18th tee, there was a huge lake to cross. “OK, know-it-all,” said the golfer, “what would Trevino suggest here?” “I think if Lee had come this far with you, he would say, ‘Use an old ball.'”

A foursome of senior golfers hit the course with waning enthusiasm for the sport. “These hills are getting steeper as the years go by,” one complained.

“These fairways seem to be getting longer, too,” said one of the others.

“The sand traps seem to be bigger than I remember them,” said the third senior.

After hearing enough from his senior buddies, the oldest, and the wisest of the four of them at 87 years old, piped up and said, “Just be thankful we’re still on the right side of the grass!”

Cart Barn Services

1. All stored carts are automatically insured.

2. Staff will bring out and/or return any members cart.

3. Staff checks battery water level in all electric carts stored in the barn every two

weeks. When found to be low, they are filled to the correct level with distilled water. This

service is provided at no extra cost. The maintenance of private carts is the responsibility

of the cart owners; this includes checking battery connections, checking for battery

corrosion, checking the air in your tires, etc.

4. Arrangements can be made to fuel gas carts.

5. A compressor is available to put air in tires.

6. Carts will be cleaned / washed upon request. There is no requirement to pay; some

members tip a few pesos and others don't. If the staff parks your cart, they will sweep it

out before parking it

7. Mechanical maintenance/repair for carts and chargers is available through the

ProShop. A diagnosis and estimate will be provided; members must fill out and sign a work

order authorizing the labor and purchase of parts. The work order book is on the counter in

the ProShop. Members also have the option to bring in their own mechanic or have the cart

taken to a repair shop, but must provide staff with identifications of workers and exact

times they will be on Club property. All costs for maintenance/repair are the responsibility

of the owner.

FROM THE GREENSKEEPER OFFICE

We all want to leave a lasting memory of what we have done. That is why we work hard and we try hard at all endeavors through our life. These last days we had the visit from Aguascalientes Country Club’s general manager Gustavo López and GCS Yolanda Hernández.

Aguascalientes CC has been experiencing problems with its irrigation lake (algae contamination), so much like we had when I arrived to CCC. They had the feedback from the supplier on how we did things to solve the problem, but still, they wanted to see themselves if it was for real.

They arrived december the 15th, and wasted no time to get the golf carts and drive to

see our lake. They were so impressed on what they saw and how we were able to manage things to get the job done. After that, we shared a few minutes at the Club’s restaurant. By now, they are working their way to clean their lake the same way we did it. This is how you make an impression in other’s lives. Being true and share your success with others.

That said, I want to say thanks to CCC for having me this last three years. It has been

an awesome ride for me and a challenge to climb the mountain and give back to this Club everything in my hands.

I am joining Hathaway Golf Development team in Queretaro city (www.hathawaygolf.com.mx). Also I am working with MacKellar International Golf Design, which is in the competition mix to land the Mayakoba Country Club Project at Cancun (www.intl-golf-design.com).

Ladies Christmas Turkey Shoot

Christmas celebrations is not just for kids!!!! The annual Ladies' Christmas Turkey Shoot brings out the best of foolish activities you dont' even realize can be an option for your game of golf. For many years now, we ask for a group of ladies to volunteer their innovation and organizational skills to create a truly fun day of challenging golf through 9 holes, varying from teeing off your ball with heavy duty oven mitts, to using your putter from tee to green, (including a sand shot-if that's what you did to yourself), use your pitching wedge from tee to green, or even better, just try and sink that great third shot for a par by navigating your way through the front end opening of a toilet seat. Guaranteed you'll walk away with more than a par-try a double or more!!!!!!!!!!! Following a 9 hole scramble, often made up of 5 or even 6 players per group, your scores actually do reward you. The top 4 best scores gets you a gift certificate for a turkey, OH YES, and those mulligan's you purchased, the monies go to covering organizational expenses, including the caddies, and the balance is placed in 4 little bags referred to as "A POT OF GOLD", and if it's your lucky day to have your name drawn - you win a nice little "SANTA GIFT" graciously donated by your dear golfing buddies who bought the mulligans, hoping to save their butt when their score could be over the top. Javier and staff served up a tasty turkey dinner buffet lunch to be enjoyed by 58 golfing gals and shared by 5 guests, ladies who are either previous golfers, or long time golfing gal friends who just enjoy being part of the festive atmosphere. The day's fun was finished off with a "White Elephant" gift exchange, and you could even steal someone's gift, and trade it for one you would rather give away, and there is nothing you can do about it -

but pout!! . This year was no exception in surpassing the expectations of a great day, enjoyed by most!!! - now seriously, you have to admit, you really can't be that out of sorts on a regular ole day of golf and be able to laugh, make noise and poke good fun at an opponent and not get a penalty for your actions. This year's committee, under the direction of Ms. Susan Field Malis whose creative ideas are infectious and drummed up other team members to get on board to come up with new and old golf foolishness to really mess up your golf for a day. Those responsible for getting you into all those situations between tee to green, and then force you to sweep those 6 putts under the rug with a broom, are none other than, mischief makers, Santa's Helpers, Sheila Margellos, Ann Szarka, Barb Ferris, Connie Walton, Lesley Archer, Suzanne Scarlett, Laurie Zibnack, Susie Patch, Marilyn Edwards. Sue Malis has organized this event previously and her comments for 2016. BEST COMMITTEE EVER!!!!!!!!!! We the Ladies' Tournament Committee take no responsibility of any activities, koodos or blame - other than requesting a group of gals give it their best shot, volunteer their time and efforts to plan a traditional fun day to celebrate the Holidays, and that they did!!!!!!! Koodos for a great event, very well planned, organized and enjoyed by all. Submitted by the Tournament Committee: Maggie Gaudet, for Karen Rowell, Pres.-Advisor-Maggie Pye.

In the past few months, we have been seeing little bits of litter appearing on the golf

course. There at least 9 garbage cans provided on the course. Please use them. This

includes cigarette butts thrown down everywhere. This detracts from beauty of our golf

course. Remember that which YOU throw down will be there next time you play, and the

time after that, and the time after that. It is not the job of our greens staff to be

picking up your cigarette butts. Please carry and use an ashtray in your golf cart.

We now have ashtrays for sale in the ProShop for next to nothing!

No

1000 Peso Reward!

All you have to do is bring a new GOLFING member to join the Club. Easy, right?

Current golfing member must be present at the time of new GOLFING membership payment in
