Workshop objective

THE EVENTThe workshop is organized in the frame of the Horizion 2020 NewInno-Net project: The Near-Zero European Waste Innovation Network. New_InnoNet deals with the implementation of the circular economy concept in three value chains or waste streams: Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), End-of-Life vehicles (ELV) and packaging waste. Our aim is to develop a business supported vision on how this concept could be implemented in practice. For the purpose of achieving the near-zero waste objective for the mentioned value chains and waste streams a European Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) will be developed. It will take into account both: the identified gaps and barriers to overcome in order to boost innovation for the purpose of closing the material loops as well as existing innovation cases, also from other sectors, that illustrate how the concept of circular economy could be implemented in practice. DETAILED PROGRAMME

13:15 Workshop registration

17:00 Wrap-up for day 1

How do we plan to work? The aim of the event is to establish foundations for a Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda for Europe that will facilitate accomplishing the challenging objectives of the Circular Economy Package in particular those related to recycling, recovery and reuse targets for the three se-lected value chains and waste streams:

Automotive industry – end of life vehicles (ELVs),

Electronics and electric equipment – electronic waste (WEEE),

Fast moving consumer goods – plastics.

Day one – January 31st 2017 ( afternoon)Plenary session including presentations focused on the latest initiatives on circular economy from the perspective of the EU institutions.

Day two – February 1st 2017 ( whole day)Presentation and discussion of practical innovation cases addressing cir-cular economy implementation for ELV, WEEE and waste plastic packa-ging.

The objective of our workshop is to present and discuss real innovation cases, experiences and lessons learned on closing the loops for materials recovered from ICT waste, WEEE, ELV and waste plastic packaging that address:

END OF LIFE MANAGEMENT

COLLECTION AND REVERSE LOGISTICS OF PRODUCTS AND MATERIALS

POLICIES, LEGISLATION AND MONITORING

PRODUCT DESIGN FOR CIRCULAR ECONOMY

MARKET AND ECONOMY

We invite stakeholders who want to:

share your views and experiences

propose first inputs on possible measures to help overcome innovation barriers

contribute to the European Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda

find partners for building your innovation case

The experiences (practical innovation cases) presented during the workshop and discussed with the participants shall provide inputs about necessary measures to be integrated into the European Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda for achieving a near-zero waste economy in the three waste streams electronic waste (WEEE), end-of-life vehicles (ELV) and packaging waste.
