“The web appeals very much to the way our students

now prefer to learn. They relate to computers in ways

that buffle adults. They play, are entertained by and

learn with computers. They also thrive on interacting

with the divice.

All imaginable kinds of information and data can be

found , the quality and value of which varies

tremendously; information that is instantly available,

often very up-to date , worldwide in scope and

presented is a more motivating format for students to

explore.

In the hands of able teachers, the web can play a

prominent role in fostering development of the skills

required by the new global economy in students. There

is a natural match between the web and the

development of these skills.

How are educators actually using the Web? Many of

these uses are merely extensions of what is already

being done with more established media. This is not

surprising because with a new technology we tend to

think it in terms of the frame of reference with which

we are most familiar . No doubt further research and

development on the applications of the Web to

teaching and learning is needed. Nonetheless, in the

meantime, it merits serious consideration as we

search for ways to revitalize and enhance what we do

in our classrooms. “ (Ronald Owston-York University)

The aim of this work is to present a collection of

presentations which offer a number of ideas for

engaging lesson activities using software and online

tools.

Let us remember that technology is only as powerful as the people who harness it. Let us never embrace technology solely to make learning ‘cool’ when we have failed to first make learning work without it.
