Key Trends and ChallengesUrbanization

• 2030: 60% of the world’s population in cities. Over 50% of the Chinese population is already urbanized

• High density living places new demands on infrastructure and resources

Demographic Change

• An ageing population: 65+ Generation will nearly double by 2030 (from 7% to 12%)

• Impacts all city systems, particularly health and care, transport and financial systems.

Climate Change

• Cities responsible for 75% of carbon emissions, and rising

• Stern Report: If unaddressed, overall costs and risks of climate change will be equivalent to losing at least 5% of (GDP) each year.
