Strategic Considerations

• Our meeting today will help us finalize and organize the range of private sector demonstrations to support the Showcase, both in the parking area outside the convention center and on the roads.

• It will also help us identify gaps and additional opportunities we should pursue to round out the Showcase.

• WC Organizing Committee will meet in mid November to “lock it down”.

• Our initial conversations with the US DOT help underscore that its research agenda offers a framework that will help us fill in gaps

• The New York World Congress included a number of public and private sector participants not yet engaged whose 2011 involvement would be equally valuable

• Other emergent technologies merit consideration; we are identifying and will reach out to them for a potential fit

Ongoing FDOT IntelliDrive Preparations

• Receive and integrate IntelliDrive data from demonstration vehicles (public and private vehicles) into SunGuide.– Public sector vehicles (~20) will remain operational after WC.– Additional vehicles planned post WC.

• Provide SunGuide and IntelliDrive data to technology showcase demonstrators via a well defined interface so it can be used by application teams.

Ongoing SunGuide IntelliDrive Preparations

• SunGuide IntelliDrive Subsystem will collect, average, and report information (SAE J2735 POC and v36) received from IntelliDrive deployment. – BSM (latitude, longitude, heading, and speed @ 10Hz)– PVDM (~10 PVDM data fields – to be coordinated with showcase

participants)– TAM (SunGuide creates message, presentation area, and target devices)

• SunGuide Database Logging (extension of current database)– BSM (only a subset will be logged)– PVDM and TAM (all will be logged in database)

• SunGuide Center-to-Center will be updated to provide SunGuide data (i.e. real-time traffic data, DMS status, travel time data) and collected IntelliDrive data to demonstrators. Future SDN connectivity envisioned via a C2C connection. Current ICDs can be found at http://sunguide.datasys.swri.edu/.

• Crash Avoidance• Notifications for blind-spot inhabitants, forward and cross path collision warnings, and red light violations are combined to present a safe driving experience

Demo M1: ATT Arterial Travel Times

• Demo 1 Team Members and Role:– Sensys Networks will provide wireless sensors

along International Drive to provide real-time travel times.

Demo M2: LHW Local Hazard Warning

• Demo 2 Team Members and Role:– GEWI will provide the software, vehicle and in-

vehicle navigation devices to demonstrate LHW– Additionally, GEWI is able to demonstrate

additional applications, including Traffic Flow and Prediction, Parking, Weather, Congestion Travel Times, Public Transportation Information and/or Road Traffic Messages, if so desired, with access to data for same.

– Demo Primary POC: GEWI• Demo Iteration Duration = 5 minutes• Resources or data access not yet arranged

- Service vehicle (i.e., RR, etc.)– Wireless communication between LHW vehicle

and in-vehicle navigation device in demo vehicle.– Demo vehicle: Will provide.

• Demo 2: Local Hazard Warning– Attendees will be able to see, via In-vehicle

navigation devices, local hazard warnings that are specific to roadway, location and direction of travel. An alert will be given with enough advance notice for the driver to take appropriate measures, based on the type of alert. Attendees will have the option of riding along, or can see the alerts via monitor at pavillion.

Demo M3: Bluetooth-Based Arterial Travel Times

• Demo 3 Team Members and Role:– Iteris Savari is providing the equipment and

interface– Demo Primary POC: Iteris/Savari

• Demo Iteration Duration = 5 minutes• Resources or data access not yet arranged

– Local equipment will be deployed at the targeted intersections so will need access and space from maintaining agency to install a small enclosure on traffic signal poles.

– May need backhaul Ethernet connectivity at some locations not using 3G.

– Large LCD monitor with wireless laptop connection will be provided by team members.

– Demo vehicles: None needed.

• Demo 3: Bluetooth-Based Arterial Travel Times– Attendees will be introduced to bluetooth arterial

travel times via a brief overview presentation in the pavillion. Additionally, a brief demonstration will show the results of calculating travel times on the Sandlake Corridor between International Drive and the US441/Orange Blossom Trail, including real-time data, as well as historical comparisons. The demonstration will also show the number of bluetooth “reads” occurring at individual locations, as well as “successful pairings” at separate locations.

Demo M4: Teleport Real-time Journey Time Management

• Demo 4: Teleport

Real-time Journey Time Management

– Attendees can ride in passenger vehicles and can participate in the demonstration by carrying a personal cell phone or bluetooth device. A computer will be located in the pavillion to show data received from the devices.

• GEWI needs some type of maintenance vehicle, whether a Road Ranger or maintenance vehicle.

• It needs to be determined which demonstrations will be located where, both in the Pavillion, as well as in the parking lot, if indicated.

• Relative to Vantage View software, from Iteris, it is unclear as to whether this demonstration will be available only on the tour of the City of Orlando TMC, or whether there is an opportunity to demonstrate at the Pavillion, as well.

• Two vendors proposed to provide travel time information on International Drive via different methods. It was decided that the first proposer would be able to utilize International Drive and the second proposer would be given the alternative corridor of Sand Lake Road.

IntelliDriveSM for Safety, Mobility and User Fee Implementation using an aftermarket navigation device.  The in-vehicle device will provide in-vehicle safety and convenience signage to the vehicle occupants, collect and send probe data via a commercial cellular provider and collect mileage-based roadway user fees.  We intend to provide in-vehicle demonstrations for those that are interested, but we also intend to stream live data (possibly including video) back to the pavilion which will be viewable by conference attendees that do not wish to go out in the vehicle.

vehicles and a central system that will collect and store tax information in real time.

– Summary: The VMT system will be demonstrated through ride-alongs and a display at the central demonstration pavilion. The VMT instrumented vehicles will include a heads up display that will show information to the driver and passengers about current tax rates, current tax policies in effect (such as congestion or time-of-day pricing) and cumulative collected tax. The pavilion will demonstrate the central VMT system collecting the tax amounts in real-time from a fleet of VMT instrumented vehicles. The system will be able to display the previously collected tax information history for individual vehicles and fleets of vehicles in a tabular or map based display. Tax rates and policy rules will be able to be modified. The system will emphasize secure and private communication of the collected tax data.
