Texas School Technology and Readiness (STaR) Chart

The Texas Teacher STaR Chart has been developed around the four key areas of the Long-Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020: ◦Teaching and Learning; ◦Educator Preparation and

Development; ◦Leadership, Administration and

Instructional Support; ◦Infrastructure for Technology.

First the Star Chart analysis was made of the years 2008-2009, 2009-2010 and 2010-2011.

The areas that revealed a need of a more specific analysis were the following:◦Technology Applications (applying

technology into curriculum or teks)◦Use of Online Learning◦Professional Development ◦Instructional Support◦Technical Support

The infrastructure of a school is the critical element of support for all four areas of the Long-Range Plan for Technology. There was a decrease in the second year in all sections and a slight increase in some sections in the third year.

Needs Assessment Survey

Needs Assessment Survey

Survey Results

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/K577CB7

These two questions demonstrate that teachers have been trained to use technology in the classroom but not enough to remove the difficulties being experienced in the implementation.

Teacher are showing high interest in obtaining specific technology training in their subject area. In question 4 only 40% of teachers surveyed have received training on online learning.

There is a greater number of teachers surveyed that state that the technology training received has had an positive impact in the improvement of student performance. The rating given to the technology training was an even spit between “very helpful” and “somewhat helpful”.

When creating lessons the require using technology only half of the surveyed teachers had access to administrative assistance. The leading reasons for the lack of using technology included lack of training and troubleshooting support.

Based on these two questions it could be concluded that the best method to receive on time assistance for technology implementation is by campus work order.

ConclusionBased on the needs assessment survey

that was administered to the math department at Los Fresnos High School we come to the following recommendations:◦Subject specific technology training is needed.◦Online training is needed and will become

useful in providing further training in the form of webinars.

◦Provide a specific contact person of support for teachers within the administrative team.

◦Monitor and keep log of troubleshooting concerns that need to be addressed immediately.
