Agenda:• E-Rate• Lubbock ISD Instructional
Technology Implementation Plan
E-Rate• The Schools and Libraries Program of
the Universal Service Fund is most commonly known as “E-Rate”
• E-Rate was authorized as part of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 under the direction of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
E-Rate• E-Rate is a program that provides
discounts to schools and libraries in the United States for attaining telecommunications and internet access.
E-Rate• E-Rate is a program that is available
“for all public and non-profit elementary and secondary school classrooms, health care providers and libraries.”
Telecommunications Act of 1996, S. 652, 104th Cong., 2nd Sess. (1996) (Section 254(h) (2)(A))
E-Rate• There is around $2.25 billion dollars
each year that eligible schools and school districts can apply for.
• Funding is requested under four categories of service: telecommunications services, Internet access, internal connections, and basic maintenance of internal connections.
E-Rate
• Discounts of 20% - 90% can be received for these services but that is dependant upon the “level of poverty and the urban/rural status of the population served.”

Instructional Technology Mission Statement
Instructional technology, in the hands of a skilled educator, becomes a
powerful tool to help students learn. It is our mission to provide
opportunities and resources to develop those skills that will prepare students for their future and not our
past.
Instructional Technology Goals
• Classroom Technology: Short-throw projector, sound system, document camera, and laser printer will be available to all classroom teachers.
• Wireless Internet capability at every school• Individual Student Computers• Individual Staff Computers• Electrical and Infrastructure upgrades t
o accommodate new technologies
