Georgia Performance Standards:

MGSE4.NBT.3 Use place value understanding to round multi-digit whole numbers to any place. Use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multidigit arithmetic.

MGSE4.NBT.4 Fluently add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm. Use the four operations with whole numbers to solve problems.

Course Title: So Many Numbers….Whole Numbers, Place Value, & Algorithms

Instructor: Jessica Kirkland

Grade Level/Content: 4th/ Math (From in classroom to online learning environment)

Course Explanation: The student will learn how to use place value to understand how to round

multi-digit whole numbers and also understand properties of operations to perform multi-digit

arithmetic. The student will also learn how to fluently add and subtract multi-digit numbers using

the four operations with whole numbers to solve problems while technology will be used to help

enhance their learning.

Time Flexibility: This one week course will allow students to complete two discussion posts, two individual assignments, and one group assignment/project. Students will be given a calendar the week prior so they know what to expect and have the due dates. For the individual assignment students are expected to be responsible for their own work, and in the group project, students will be given some time in class, also, students will be encouraged to communicate via Google docs in Google Drive. Students will have one week to complete all assigned work (assignments) as they were listed in the given calendar. .

Course Objectives:

● Understand how to use place value to round multi-digit whole numbers.

● Understand how to fluently add and subtract multi-digit numbers using the four

operations.

● Explain how to use place value to round multi-digit whole numbers.

● Identify the correct operation to use when fluently adding and subtracting multi-digit

whole numbers.

AssignmentsStudents will have two individual assignments for this week long course. The assignments include solving multiple word problems using one of the four operations and also using place value to help round multi-digit numbers. These assignments will be completed using the online resource IXL and must be completed by the end of the week.

Group ProjectThe group project will be a performance task centered around the skills students have learned this week which include rounding multi-digit numbers and use the four operations to solve problems. Students will be expected to create a word problem that is on grade level and give step by step instructions on how to solve the problem, including the solution. Students will act as

teachers when they present their projects. They will present word problems to the class using Powtoon and will be graded using the following rubric:
