PLC TechnoAlpin machine rooms are controlled from a central PLC unit. This guarantees that the lines
are filled correctly and that the system only goes into regular operation when the lines are full. This proce-
dure protects the lines from pressure surges and trapped air. The system is controlled using a touch screen
that also displays the settings. The menu structure is very clear. The operator can select from a range of
different languages. The PLC continuously exchanges data with the control system.

Current and input pressure limiting Current and input pressure limits have to be
set during the commissioning of each pumping station. TechnoAlpin pumping stations have two current
settings. If the fi rst setting is exceeded, neither the regulation valve nor the pump speed are increased any
further. Once the limit of setting 2 is reached, the regulation valve is gradually closed and the pump speed
reduced. Limiting the input pressure guarantees a minimum pressure and prevents the pumps coming
to an emergency stop. Irreparable damage can occur within seconds if a pump is running at less than the
specifi ed water pressure or, worse, is running dry.

Leak monitoring The pressure and flow rate in the operating system are monitored continuously
in order to immediately detect any leaks in the line. When the system shuts down, the PLC saves the
current output pressure. The PLC triggers an alarm if the pressure drops below a preset value for no ap-
parent reason. Drainage measurement Water losses from the reservoirs are also monitored
in order to pinpoint where the losses are occurring. For this purpose, water from the drainage system is
piped into a small collecting tank where it is directed over a V-notch weir. The level of water at the weir is
measured and the current water flow calculated using a level sensor.

5 Electrically interlocked safety circuits and emergency manual operation All safety circuits are
interlocked electrically, not just by the software. The emergency stop circuit is rated according to ISO
1348-1. If there is a power failure or a fault, all relevant parts are left without power either open or closed,
depending on the specifi cation. This ensures the safety of the system and employees in all cases. The sys-
tem can be operated manually in an emergency if the automatic controls fail. 6 Problem resolution In the
event of a breakdown, TechnoAlpin systems generate fault lists that are standardized between the control
system, PLC and the manual. This makes it easy to identify the fault and fi x it. The system differentiates
between faults and warnings.

ISO 3834-2 TechnoAlpin is certifi ed according to ISO
standard 3834-2 which specifi es the quality of the welding pro-
cess of metallic material. The quality of the welding process is
diffi cult to check. It cannot be fully checked on the product but
has to be “designed into” the process. That is why TechnoAlpin
complies with ISO 3834-2, which defi nes the “Quality require-
ments for fusion welding of metallic materials”.
The main objectives of this standard are:
• to defi ne the quality requirements for welding in the workshop
and at construction sites
• to ensure the conformity of fi nished products with the specifi ed
quality requirements
• to guarantee adequate control of the welding process in order to
ensure the consistently high quality of the fi nished work
• to form a basis for evaluating the skills and capabilities of suppli-
ers and employees.
The standard is therefore an important means of defi ning top quality for all welding work and guaranteeing
the safety of the system. TechnoAlpin welders conform strictly to the specifi cations for the confi guration
of the joint during welding. The appropriate angulation of the contact points and adherence to the welding
sequence are essential for our technicians.
X-ray inspection TechnoAlpin employees carry out X-ray inspections of weld beads in order to
monitor the quality of the fi nished work.
Material certifi cate At the same time, TechnoAlpin maintains above-average standards when
it comes to certifi cation of the materials supplied. Materials are checked for acceptance test certifi cation
according to EN 10204 / 3.1, including the detailed inspection of incoming goods, a chemical analysis and
the mechanical testing of all components.

1 Frequency converter (FU) with graphic display The pumps are controlled using a frequency con-
verter which continuously adjusts the speed of the pump motor and therefore the output pressure. The FU
monitors the pump current and the temperature of the motor. The continuous adjustment guarantees ex-
tremely efficient operation of the system. 2 Regulation valve (PCV) The PCV is used without the frequency
converter to regulate the output pressure and control the pumps. This mechanism features two limit switch-
es for the "OPEN" and "CLOSED" positions, safety switches that react to excessive torque and an internal
thermal cut-out. The regulation valve was developed specially by TechnoAlpin and is very easy to service.

3 Flushing filter This filter has an automatic flushing function to prevent it from clogging and avoid pres-
sure loss. 4 Sensors with displays A wide range of sensors and probes are needed to read the measured
data from the entire system. The sensors in TechnoAlpin systems have separate displays that enable the
system to be monitored at a glance. 5 Control via Ethernet Frequency converters and compressors can
be controlled via an Ethernet interface. Commissioning and troubleshooting are greatly simplified thanks
to uncomplicated wiring. The control system displays individual faults and not only group faults. This saves
money and allows for remote monitoring.
