Technical Topic 1 “SAIs and their contribution for the Implementation of the Sustainable Development

Goals (SDGs)” First Plenary Technical Session

Document´s objective: Describe the different activities that will be developed during the First Plenary Session regarding the Technical Topic 1. 1) Discussion panels

Location and time

Apollo Room II & III, 11:30 - 13:00 (duration: an hour and a half)

Discussion panels’ objective: Exchange of arguments between delegations in terms of the guiding questions (see Annex 1), which will be made by coordinators. Likewise, during these sessions, participants will be able to share the views, experiences, good practices, or doubts on the role the SAIs play in order to contribute to the achievement of SDOs. Dynamic:

1) Coordinators for the discussion panels will explain the overall development for discussions and present participants. Duration: 5 min (11:30-11:35 hours)

2) Coordinators for the discussion panels will present each of the guiding questions (Annex 1), and will make way to the exchange of points of view. Coordinators will make sure that sessions do not take longer than 5 min per question. At the same time, Rapporteurs will take note on the main arguments presented by participants. The coordinator will define if he/she will get through all the questions. Duration: 65 min (11:35-12:40 hours)

3) Jointly, Coordinators, Rapporteurs and participants will develop the conclusions of each discussion panel.

Duration: 20 min (12:40-13:00 hours)

4) Rapporteurs and Coordinators for the discussion panels, with the support of the representatives of the Technical Topic 1 Coordinating SAI, will meet in Apollo Room II so as to consolidate the overall conclusions. Such activity will take place after lunch (13:00-14:30 hours), parallel to preliminary sessions stated in the General Program. The Organizing Committee will provide the computer equipment and projector required for the presentation of the working document before rapporteurs, coordinators for the discussion panels and representatives of the Technical Topic 1 Coordinating SAI. Duration: 60 min (14:30-15:30 hours) Once conclusions get consolidated, they will need to be turned in to Dr. Licelott Marte de Barrios, Chair of the Accounts Chamber of the Dominican Republic, so she can read them during the plenary session, from 18:00-18:30 hours.

1. How can the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) get ready for the 2030 Agenda? What is the role

of the SAIs and which contributions can they offer?

2. Which strategic and action plans should the SAIs take to evaluate the implementation of the

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?

3. What is the most appropriate channel to publish the results of the evaluations carried out by the

SAIs regarding the 2030 Agenda?

4. How can the Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) contribute to the

implementation of the SDGs? How can they contribute to auditing work?

5. Which actions are necessary to improve transparency and accountability of the public sector

regarding the SDGs and their respective public policies?

6. How are the SAIs supposed to evaluate and support the implementation of Goal 16, which deals,

partly, with building effective, accountable institutions at all levels?
