Subject :Replace the control ,monitoring, alarm system and all of instrumentation in continuous catalyst regeneration unit / U510/ .

Catalyst regeneration process description:

The regeneration unit continuously burns off the coke deposit on the catalyst and restores activity, selectivity and stability to essentially fresh catalyst levels.

The catalyst regeneration requires four basic operations: 1. burning off the coke at a high temperature and low oxygen concentration.

2. oxidizing the metal promoters at a high temperature and high oxygen concentration and adjusting the chloride balance. 3. removing excess moisture and .4. reducing the metal promoters.

The first three operations occur in the Regeneration tower and the forth in the reduction zone on top of reactors.In order to regenerate the catalyst , it must be transferred from the platforming reactors to the regenerator and back again . To accomplish this , a system of several interconnected pieces of equipment transfers the catalyst in small batches on a semi-continuous basis. The transfer operation is controlled by two logic systems, one for spent catalyst and one for regenerated catalyst . A simplified flow diagram of the catalyst regeneration section

is shown in figure No.2 .The circulation is as follows : spent catalyst flows by gravity from the bottom of the last stacked reactor through the catalyst collector and Lock Hopper No.1 to lift engager No.1 where circulation nitrogen lift the catalyst to the Disengaging Hopper above the Regeneration Tower . Catalyst fines and nitrogen leave the top of the Disengaging Hopper. The fines are removed in the Dust Collector and the nitrogen is recycled to the lift engager. The catalyst flows by gravity from the bottom of the Disengaging Hopper into and through the Regeneration Tower . Exiting from the tower , the oxidized catalyst passes through the Flow Control Hopper to the Surge Hopper . catalyst from the Surge Hopper is transferred back to the reactors via Lock Hopper No.2 and Lift Engager No.2 through the reduction Zone into the bed of the reactor No.1. The lift gas for this transfer is hydrogen rich platformer net gas. The catalyst flows by gravity through the first reactor and out the bottom to the top of the next reactor .Catalyst continues to flow through each reactor until it again reaches the bottom of the last reactor , completing the transfer circuit . Catalyst flow between and from the reactors is through eight or more equally spaced transfer lines designed to ensure even catalyst flow throughout the catalyst bed .The Regeneration Tower is similar to a platforming reactor , that the catalyst flows downward through an annulus with gas

flowing from the outside to the inside of the annulus . Figure No. 1 shows a simplified diagram of the Regeneration Tower. Entering the top of the tower , spent catalyst comes to the Regeneration Zone. In this zone, the cock is burned off at a high temperature and low oxygen concentration. The catalyst then passes into the Chlorination Zone . In this zone , the catalyst is oxidized at a high temperature and a high oxygen concentration ( 18-20 mol % ) . Ethylene dichloride is injected into the circulation gas of this zone to adjust the catalyst chloride balance. From the Chlorination Zone , catalyst passes into the Drying Zone .

Dried, filtered instrument air heated to a high temperature is injected near the bottom of this zone to dry off excess moisture on the catalyst. Catalyst then leaves the Regeneration Tower and is transported to the top of the reactors where it is reduced with hydrogen rich recycle gas at a high temperature in the Reduction Zone before reaching the rector bed.
