Manufacturing Technology Today, September 2015 / c1 / Around CMTI TECHNICAL PRESENTATION 'Manufacturing Systems: From Sustainable to Smart’ CMTI organized a technical presentation on ‘Manufacturing Systems: From Sustainable to Smart’ by Dr. Sudarsan Rachuri, NIST, USA on 30 th June 2015 for the benefit of CMTI Scientific community. ‘Kern Micro Milling Process Capabilities and its Latest Improvements’ CMTI organized a technical presentation on ‘Kern Micro Milling Process Capabilities and its Latest Improvements’ by Mr. Udo Reinwald, Sales Director, Kem Microtechnik, Germany, on 27 th July 2015 for the benefit of CMTI Scientific community. 'Kern' is a world leader & pioneer in micro and ultra precision machine tools. Mr. Udo Reinwald presented about the precision of their machining centres and consistently achievable quality on the work piece irrespective of the resolution of the measuring scales or positioning accuracy. He also explained about the varies models of their ultra precision machining centres and the sample parts machined by using them. ‘Delta Tau Product Presentation on Open CNC, Intelligent Drives, PLC’s and its advanced features for Ultra Precision & Special Purpose Machine Developments’ A technical presentation was arranged on ‘Delta Tau Product Presentation on Open CNC, Intelligent Drives, PLC’s and its advanced features for Ultra Precision & Special Purpose Machine Developments’ by Dr. Hans Ulrich, Director, Delta Tau, Switzerland, on 14 th July 2015 for scientists and technical officers of CMTI. Dr. Hans Ulrich explained about various products of 'Delta Tau' related to SPM developments. He briefed about Delta Tau Controllers for different applications such as additive manufacturing, Ultra Precision Machines etc., He also highlighted the new features like Adaptive Control, Spectral decomposition and auto correction interpolator of 'Delta Tau Motion Controllers'. He suggested to explore the 'Delta Tau' motion controller’s for our SPM developments. ‘Reactive Ion Etching & Deep Reactive Ion Etching’ CMTI organized a technical presentation on ‘Reactive Ion Etching & Deep Reactive Ion Etching’ by Mr. Kousik Sivakumar, Manager – Application and Sales, Research Group, Amil Ltd., on 13 th July 2015 for the benefit of CMTI Scientific community. The talk focused on Deep Reactive Ion Etching (DRIE) or Deep Silicon Etching (DSE™) an industry leading technology for creating high aspect ratio features in silicon for MEMS and nanotechnology applications. DSE is a type of anisotropic etching technique that etches silicon indiscriminately with regards to the crystal planes, creating deep straight, trenches, and high aspect ratio side walls with excellent depth uniformity.

KICK-OFF MEETING

Design and Development of Advanced Technologies for Hi-Tech ‘Shuttle-less Looms’

The Kick-off meeting on the design and development of advanced technologies for Hi-Tech ‘Shuttle-less Looms’ was organized at CMTI on 5th June 2015. Delegates from Department of Heavy Industries (DHI), Textile Machinery Manufacturers’ Association (TMMA) and Textile Machinery Manufacturers’ Consortium (TMMC) participated. Various issues regarding the development of Shuttle-Less Loom were discussed. Mr. S V Mansur, Scientist E, CMTI & Project Coordinator - ‘Shuttle-less Looms’, presented the status of the project.

VISIT OF HIGH LEVEL DELEGATES

Visit of officers of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC)

A team of officers of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), headed by Dr. Nareshpal, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (South Zone), KVIC, Bangalore & Shri. M. Jagannadha Rao, State Director, KVIC, visited CMTI on 9th June 2015 to discuss the development of Metal Frame Handloom - Nepali loom (Pedal Operated) for the Khadi Institution.

Visit of officers Surat Engineering Vikas Association (SEVA), Surat

A team of delegates from Surat Engineering Vikas Association (SEVA), Suratvisited CMTI on 6th May 2015 along with Shri Sachin Arora, Jt. Sec. Textile Machinery Manufacturers’ Association (TMMA). The delegates were welcomed by Shri S Satish Kumar, Director In-charge and he also briefed the capabilities of CMTI. This was followed by a visit to the facilities of CMTI. The delegates were pleased with the diverse facilities at CMTI and expressed interest in further cooperation with CMTI. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks from Shri Hetal Mehta of SEVA.

GC MEETING & ANNUAL GENERAL BODY MEETING The 126th Governing Council Meeting and 50th Annual General Body Meeting of CMTI was held on 27th August 2015 at CMTI, Bangalore. The progress of the various on-going, Plan, new advanced technologies and R&D Projects of the Institute and policy matters of the Institute were discussed during the meeting.

69th Independence Day of India was celebrated at CMTI on 15-Aug-2015. Shri S Satish Kumar, Director In-charge, CMTI, hoisted the National Flag and addressed the gathering.

The following training programmes were organized by Academy of Excellence for Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AEAMT) during May to July 2015.

Scheduled Training Programmes:

One day programme on ‘Chemical Characterization by NDT Techniques’ was conducted on 25th May 2015, at AEAMT Dept., CMTI, 12 members from various industries participated.

A 5 days programme on ‘Precision Measurements & Metrology’ was conducted from 11th to 15th May 2015, at AEAMT Dept.,CMTI, 17 members from various industries participated.

One day visit to ‘Metrology Lab’ was organized for ‘NTTF Trainees’ on 26th May 2015, by AEAMT Dept., CMTI, 19 members participated.

Shri Nanjundaraj Urs R, Assistant Administrative Officer - SG (AAO-SG), Superannuated from the services of CMTI in July 2015, after 33 years of service from Central Planning & Co-ordination (CPC) department. He has served in various departments in different capacities.

Shri Sridhara Murthy M K, Chargeman II, Superannuated from the services of CMTI in July 2015, after 30 years of service from Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) department.

Shri Ramesha Babu K N, Assistant Administrative Officer - SG (AAO-SG), Superannuated from the services of CMTI in July 2015, after 35 years of service from Administration department. He has served in various departments in different capacities.

Shri Rajappa K R, Multitask Attendent - Gr. III (MTA - Gr. III), Superannuated from the services of CMTI in August 2015, after 34 years of service from Nano Manufacturing Technology Centre (NMTC) department.

RETIREMENT / SUPERANNUATION

A 4 days programme on ‘Laboratory Quality Management & Internal Audit as per ISO / IEC 17025’ was conducted from 15th to 18th June 2015, at AEAMT Dept., CMTI, 21 members from various industries participated.

One day visit to ‘CMTI Laboratories’ was organized for M/s. GE on 17th June 2015, by AEAMT Dept., CMTI, 1st batch of 24 members participated.

One day visit to ‘CMTI Laboratories’ was organized for M/s. GE on 19th June 2015, by AEAMT Dept., CMTI, 2nd batch of 31 members participated.

A 3 days programme on ‘Additive Manufacturing & Rapid Tooling’ was conducted from 17th to 19th June 2015, at AEAMT Dept., CMTI, 11 members from various industries participated.
