Technical Overview

CM-2 Climate Monitor

“The Climate Monitor CM-2 bristles with sensors and delivers a sophisticated rack environment monitoring and early warning system.” - PC PRO

The importance of effectively monitoring IT environments has never been greater. There are a multitude of potentially very serious problems that can happen in a short time and if unreported can lead to permanently damaged equipment and costly downtime.

As technology advances many of our IT problems are becoming a thing of the past. However this progress can exacerbate other issues, heat generation, power consumption and security breaches are becoming increasingly worrisome.

The solution consists of the core CM-2 monitor alone. It is the cost effective way to have reliable server room environment monitoring and carries on-board sensors for sound, light, temperature, airflow and humidity, as well as having numerous free ports for additional plug-and-play sensors as required.

OVERVIEW

3 analogue inputs for 0-5 VDC sensors

5 built in sensors

Accessible through a web browser

LCD display cycles through sensor readings

This self-contained unit continually monitors climate conditions and displays them via an internally-generated web page. These values are graphed for easily seen trends. The LCD display on the front of the unit cycles through the values. If user-defined thresholds are exceeded, alarms can be sent via e-mail, audio alarm, SNMP trap or (optional) SMS.

5 digital sensor ports for remote sensors

Multi-level alarms with escalation

Alarm notifications sent by email, SNMP and (optional) SMS

Audible horn triggered by alarm

Installation is simple using an intuitive web interface. All a user needs is a standard web browser (e.g FireFox, Internet Explorer).

The Climate CM-2 occupies a 1-Uspace and contains a complete set of internalsensors. A variety of additional remote sensors can easily be added.

WEB INTERFACE

The web management interface is the primary way to interact with the CM-2. This interface allows a user to remotely check the status of the environment, view graphs of logged data and see web cam images.

Configuration and administration of the unit is done through the web interface where multiple thresholds and alarms can be set.

The firmware running on the Climate CM-2 is updated through the web interface.

OTHER ACCESS METHODS

INSTALLATION

Besides web access, there are a variety of methods that can also be used for obtaining sensor data from the unit.

Meta-tagged data system info is available in XML.

Logged data can be downloaded as a CSV file.

For local viewing, real-time values are continually displayed on a 2 line by 8 character back-lit LCD display. The user selects which sensors are shown on the display.

No client software or other support software is needed. Installation is simple using an intuitive web interface. Use DHCP or assign a static IP address.

All connections are made through the front panel. No client software or installation CD is required. The user connects an Ethernet cable, sets the IP address and begins using the unit. An LCD constantly displays the sensor values.
