Building Location and Directions

Please check CODOT.gov/cotrip.org for latest road conditions, travel alerts, and road closures** Directions to theater from Glenwood Springs, CO: From I-70, take exit 116 and head south on CO HWY-82 towards Aspen. Follow HWY-82 past round-a-bout and thru S-curves onto Main St. Continue on Main St. until Mill St., take a right. Follow Mill St. until it bends right at Hyman Ave. Theater is on the immediate right. Directions to theater loading dock from Glenwood Springs, CO: From I-70, take exit 116 and head south on CO HWY-82 towards Aspen. Follow HWY-82 past round-a-bout and thru S-curves onto Main St. Continue on Main St. until Monarch St., take a right. Follow Monarch St., cross Hopkin’s Ave. and make a left into first alley on your left. If you cross over Hyman Ave., you’ve gone too far. Stagehand Labor The Wheeler is a non-union house, and a minimum Wheeler crew made up of a well- qualified production staff is required for all events. Production Manager or designated representative must be present for all operations on stage. Other required department heads determined by PM in advance. Crew shift/break requirements in accordance with Colorado state law: 15 minute break every 4 hours, 30 minute meal break for shifts longer than 5 hours.

Loading Dock and Freight Elevator

**Semi-tractor trailer rigs over 45’ cannot access the loading dock and will require permitted parking on city street/s**

Door size: 8’-0” wide by 16’-0” high

Dock is an 8’-0” wide by 12’-0” long by 16’-0” high freight elevator with an 8,000 pound capacity that stops at all floors.

Doors to elevator are 16’-0” high at stage and outside dock level and 14’-0” inside dock storage room. All other doors are 6’-6” high.

Any vehicle caught in violation will potentially be ticketed by the city parking department. The Wheeler is not liable for these fees, but will do our best to accommodate vehicles of all sizes. Please use shore power and/or shut off engines and generators whenever possible. Depending on the weather, and due to the no idle policy, hotel rooms may need to be arranged for any long-haul drivers parked on the street/s that don’t have access to venue shore power.

Parking

Parking lot/loading dock area is approximately 40’ wide x 50’ long. Due to the historic nature of the facility and (tight) alley only access to our parking lot/loading dock area, space can be extremely limited – especially for larger busses and trucks. Since many vehicles are too big to fit, upon advance, the Wheeler will reserve and pay for street parking as close to the theater as possible.

Green Room, Dressing Rooms, WIFI, Workshop, and Laundry

All dressing rooms, green room, and theater have access to WIFI. No hard lines available. Networks and passwords provided upon advance. Each dressing room contains wall mirrors, full LED lighting, counter space, chairs, wash sink/s, and theater/stage manager audio feeds. All dressing rooms are in close proximity to restrooms and shower. See next page for more specific details. All are accessed from stage either by stairs (SL & SR) or freight elevator (SR). Pit Level -- one level below the stage: 1 x ADA compliant bathroom across from Green Room 1 x Kitchenette with microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, sink Green Room: 13’ W x 25’ L Two couches, easy chair, coffee table, 2 x buffet tables, flat screen tv with audio and video feed from theater and cable tv. Workshop – located at basement level: The Wheeler Opera House has a small workshop – 11’ W x 17’ L – that can be made available. Shop use, supplies, tools, vacuums, etc. to be used and/or loaned out must have prior approval and documentation of either the Wheeler’s building manager or other designated and authorized Wheeler staff. NO EXCEPTIONS! Laundry -- located at basement level: One standard washing machine and one standard dryer available with prior approval.

Battens

The house has 29 combination chain and wire rope linesets; counterweight is by 1/4 ton and 1/2 ton chain motors. Line sets fly out to about 19’-6”. (Proscenium height is 17’-3”) Pin rail is located on stage level, stage left. There is a small pin rail stage right downstage that controls rolldrop and tab curtain control.
