HMI Control Units for Human-Machine Communication
The interface between human andtechnology
Users of today’s factory automation sys-tems want more and clearer informationon the control systems of their plant andmachinery. HMI control terminals and pro-cess visualisation software enable an infor-mative dialogue between operator andmachine, making them the ideal comple-ment to the MELSEC PLC systems.
HMI control units make factory systemfunctions transparent, enabling the opera-tor to monitor and edit process dataquickly and easily.
You can choose between HMI control unitswith text and graphical displays. Fully pro-grammable function keys and displaysmake the units even more user-friendly.The units can be programmed andconfigured with a PC running the intuitiveWindows-based programming softwarepackage.
HMI units can be installed directly on yourmachines and require nearly no additionalmodules for connection to the PLC. Theyprovide direct access to all information andprocess data, with text or graphical displays.
An IP65 rating (and higher) ensures thatthe HMIs will always perform reliably, evenunder the toughest conditions.

PLC, HMI and different Networks in Cooperation
HMI and networks
Network support, communication betweendevices and data exchange are all standardfeatures in today’s factory automation sys-tems. The HMI control units and processvisualisation software provide full supportfor the commonest standard networks.
The control units are normally connectedto the PLC’s RS422 port, which provides a1:1 link. In MELSECNET the control unitscan be configured as slaves. If you require astandard open network you can choosebetween PROFIBUS/DP, CC-Link and Ether-net TCP/IP.
A unique option is the 1:n link providedby MAC-Net and the fast Ethernet (up to100Mbits) for MAC E series, a configurationwhich enables several MAC E units toaccess the PLC simultaneously. Data com-munications over longer distances viamodem are also possible – this means youcan monitor and edit your configuration, programs and data from the comfort ofyour desk.
Interfaces
RS422 RS232C RS485/RS422 (optional) MELSEC A-BUS (optional) MELSEC Q-BUS (optional) PROFIBUS/DP (optional) Ethernet TP (coaxial or twisted pair,

Supported Networks
Modem LinksEnables connections over larger dis-tances.
Ethernet and MAC-NetFor connection of multiple MAC E con-trol units to the PLC system in installa-tions extending over larger areas.
MELSECNETEnables high-speed access (up to10 Mbaud) to the PLC from multiple lo-cations via the A900GOT or the MACE900T/E900VT/ E910T.
Dual Driver supportThe MAC E series control units can beused e.g. as an interface between 2 sys-tems. This feature is supported fromO/S version 6 (not for MAC E50)
PROFIBUS/DPMAC E series control units can be con-nected as slaves in systems using theopen field bus protocol.
Multidrop-NetEnables programming and data loggingfrom a central location using a PC; theindividual stations operate autonomous-ly and independently of one another.
No-Protocoll-LinkEnables connection of barcode readersand other serial devices to the PLC viathe MAC E series control units.
A-BUS/Q-BUSDirect connection of the A900GOT andMAC E900T/900VT/910T (A-BUS only)to the PLC’s expansion port for fastcommunications.

The MAC E Series - State-of-the-Art Operation and Process Design!
The MAC E operator terminals provide aunique concept of flexible display blocks. The dialog screen is displayed quickly andcan be adopted to suit the users needs. These operator terminals in many cases arecapable of replacing a complete controlconsole.
They permit simple alteration of processdata and thus influence the particularapplication. The units in the MAC E series are perfectlymatched to the range of MELSEC control-lers and yet easy to operate.
The features include user-definable text, control parameter and data editing, alarmhandling, recipes and menu operation.Programming is performed eitherdirectly on the unit itself or with anMS-Windows® compatible PC running theE-Designersoftware package.
“Dialog blocks”consisting of text and/orgraphics form the basis of all MAC E appli-cations. Via the object-orientated program-ming system, each dialog block displays allsignals and values allocated to theobject in digital and analog form.
The individual dialog blocks that makeup a MAC E application form a hierarchicaltree structure with the needed functionassigned to each dialog block. Thus, theyare adopted to the machine and processfunctions. The result is a clear operatorguidance with a clear information flow andclear text messages in case of an error.
Text and graphic blocks return static ordynamic information to the operator.
Text blocks display numeric values andtext. The display supports scrolling, so thesize of textblocks is not limited by thenumber of lines on the screen.
The blocks can be output to a printerunder PLC control.
The graphics block size is limited by thedisplay which has a resolution of240 x 64 pixel up to 640 x 480 pixel.
Static objects for example, can be dis-played in different font sizes or with prede-fined graphic objects.
Dynamic objects are predefined as well foreasier application development and can bescaled to any size.
In addition to these predefined objectsself-created bitmap graphics can beimported and managed in libraries.

Communications
All MAC E series control units are fittedwith an RS422 interface for connection tothe PLC.
Except of the MAC E50 all units provide anRS232C interface for connecting a printeror PC to the terminal.
This second port enables the unit to be runin transparent mode.
This means that the MAC E series is capableof communicating simultaneously withboth the connected PLC system and a PC(via the MX SCADA or GX IEC Developersoftware).
The MAC E units can also be linked to thePC via modem.
Another communications option is theno-protocol mode for the connection ofserial peripheral devices (e.g. bar-codereaders).
Networking
With the communications interfaceMAC-IFC-ETCX (-ETTP) an Ethernet networkcan be realized. Within this network upto 30 stations can be connected to one PLCin a segment.
The connection to open networks can beestablished through an optional interfacefor PROFIBUS/DP with a transfer rate of upto 12 Mbit.
Dual Driver
The Dual Driver is used to connect differentnetwork types. This is possible with MAC Eseries operator terminals with O/S version 6and higher (not for MAC E50).
The shown configuration is only possiblewith operator terminals which are pro-vided with two extension slots (fromMAC E700/E710/E900T/E910T).
