STATEMENTOFPURPOSE
WoodsTechnologyIIisafull-yearcoursethatwillrefinestudentskillsintheareaofstructuraldesign,jointformation,precisiontoolusage,woodfinishing,laminating,andhardwareselection/installation.ThecourseisdesignedtobetakenonceastudenthassuccessfullycompletedayearofWoodsTechnologyI,andwillaffordeachindividualtheopportunitytofullyinvestigatecareerpossibilities.TheWoodsTechnologyIIcurriculumwillgowellbeyondtheexploratoryphaseofWoodsTechnologyI.Newinstruments,tools,techniques,andtechnologieswillbeutilizedthroughouttheyear.Eachstudentwillperformdetailedlayoutdesignsandfollowproceduresthatarecurrentlybeingusedinrelatedfieldseachday.Separatelyweassessstudentstogaugeprogressandinforminstruction.Benchmarkassessmentsforstudentsingrades9through12areadministeredintheformofamidtermandfinalexamforfullyearcourses.*SpecialNote:Onlyfinalexamsareadministeredattheendofquartercoursesandsemester
RATIONALE
TherevisedWoodsTechnologyIIcurriculum(formerlycalledCabinetmaking)waschangedtobetteridentifythenewtechnologiesintroducedintotheprogramisdesignedtoreflectthemanyindustrychangesthathaveoccurredoverrecentyears.Theintegrationandutilizationoftechnologyhasresultedinnumerouschangesintheworkplaceenvironment.TheWoodsTechnologyIIcourseusesthemasteryofskillstosolverealworldproblems,incorporateteamwork/cooperativelearningstrategies,andemphasize efficient human resourcemanagement practices. These practiceswill impart knowledge and instill confidence in each studentwhilebuildinglife-longoccupationalskills,whichwillservehim/herthroughhis/herlife.Throughouttheyear,theWoodsTechnologyIIcurriculumofferseachstudentavarietyofprojectchoices,andoptionsandisdirectlyalignedwiththeNewJerseyStandardsforTechnology,theNewJerseyStandardsfor21stCenturyLifeandCareers,andtheStudentLearningEnglishLanguageArtsStandardsforScienceandStudentLearningTechnicalSubjects.
