Most programs and books on GD&T are considered dry and monotonous. The GD&T Hierarchy Coach
is not that! Tec-Ease, Inc. has purposefully avoided this pitfall in its’ Coach development to help
students learn GD&T concepts the first time. It mirrors the same helpful instruction techniques used in
Don’s books, GD&T e-Mail Tips and live presentations and addresses multiple learning styles. It’s been
designed to assist students in understanding GD&T concepts while increasing information retention
through proven application and inspection examples, full color 3-D graphics, fun animations and
quizzes (and a little pointed humor!).
Completion Times for each Chapter:
For purchasers of the program, a Web-based final exam is available free-of-charge. Upon achieving a
“passing” score, Tec-Ease, Inc. will issue its standard, Certificate of Course Completion for
Fundamentals of GD&T. Each single user license or log-in receives a copy of the GD&T Hierarchy
Collection (textbook, workbook with solutions and a pocket guide). Tec-Ease, Inc. courses earn
Registered Continuing Education Credits (RCEP).

What are people saying about The GD&T Hierarchy Coach?
Gwen says, "I absolutely love this course…I can go as slow as I want and go back and review
slides if I need to…. This is the way to go. I don’t interrupt others learning, yet I get to fully
understand before I move on.“
As GD&T is totally new for some of our students, a few are struggling to keep pace with the broad
range of concepts presented in the GD&T Hierarchy Coach. However, the consensus is that it is a very
enjoyable and effective distance learning series.
I’ve learned more in just a few hours with the Tec-Ease GD&T Hierarchy Coach than in 12 weeks
taking a similar on-line program. I look forward to the time I get to spend viewing the presentations and
taking the interactive quizzes. Here at FOX the Tec-Ease GD&T Hierarchy Coach is rated “best in
class”.
Thanks!

. Use the inspection tool to calculate the available positional tolerance taking any bonus tolerance
into account to make pass/fail decisions. Then easily generate inspection reports or reports of the
translations and conversions which may accompany a print to explain unfamiliar symbology to others.
Geo-Ease™ is completely rule based. Choose the Y14.5 Standard the drawing was made to and
build the feature control frame using the rules for that Standard.. The software will not allow you to
build an incorrect callout. The software will also do easy conversion, with one mouse click, the
dimensions and tolerances toggle between millimeters and inches. Geo-Ease™ automatically
calculates the inner and outer boundaries of features of size. These values are frequently used for
gage design and tolerance analysis. A pop-up chart shows additional tolerance allowed when
material condition modifiers (MMC and LMC) are specified. Enter any value within the limits of size to see the allowable geometric tolerance.

GD&T Hierarchy Textbook - 1994 Benefit from 30 years of continuous improvement.
Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is not new, but
there is a newness about it. Over the last 30 years, Don
Day has continuously worked to develop this 160 page
seminar text. The result is a tool that facilitates and
maximizes learning. The entire text is in landscape
format which made it possible to include more complex
drawings than are usually found in most GD&T texts.
Many of the illustrations are solid models of actual parts
including some from Don's own product, the Inter-Mec Air
Clutch Brake.
The GD&T Hierarchy is used throughout the book to illustrate relationships between the 14
geometric tolerances. Don walks you through a brief history of engineering drawings. He goes on to
prove how it is not possible to utilize the latest developments in solid modeling, computer aided
manufacturing and automated inspection without GD&T. The most usable geometric tolerances are
featured with numerous application examples.

Model Kit. See Product Code 6310 for more information.
Pivot Block Model Kit
This model is used to distinguish between the surface
interpretation and the axis or center plane interpretation
of a position tolerance. It is also used to reinforce how
gage sizes are calculated.
This part and fixture are used to help explain how
datum targets are used on a casting or forging to
fixture the part while creating functional machined
datum features.
Casting Model Kit
Simultaneous Requirements Kit
By pulling the shaft apart you may illustrate how the pair
of flats is centered on the datum axis and the key seat is
centered on the datum axis. With the shaft assembled
you can change the orientation of the flats to the key
seat. This is useful to explain that there are times when
a relationship between these features is necessary and
other times where it is not that critical and the rule of
simultaneous requirements may be relaxed.

O at MMC Model Kit
These models are used to illustrate the concept of 0 at
MMC. They are also helpful when discussing fixed and
floating fasteners.
This distorted part is found on page 19 of the pocket
guide where it is used to illustrate various types of
tolerances and dimensions. This part is also shown
on page 3-12 to illustrate various types of datum
features. On page 4-4 is a drawing of the part
showing the controls that should be applied to datum
features. The gage helps illustrate the effect of
maximum material boundary being applied to datum
features.
Flanged Part Model Kit
Gasket Model Kit
The red gauge is especially helpful to illustrate how one
side of a profile tolerance may be gaged and to illustrate
the effect of datum feature shift on the tolerance zone.

Who should attend:
All those who use GD&T to design, produce and inspect parts: mechanical engineers, designers,
managers, production planners, inspectors, machinists, supplier quality personnel, etc.
The Need:
A concurrent engineering team equipped with the proper tools has the ability to shorten time to
market, reduce engineering changes and create a robust quality design. Design decisions should be
optimized for quality cost and delivery at the sketch phase when an engineering change costs a few
cents rather than hundreds or thousands of dollars months later. The drawing is the common thread
of the concurrent engineering team.
This is the first in a series of seminars that presents understandable user friendly tools that may be
used by your entire team to get it right the first time. By using these methods, design decisions are
based on fact rather than emotion and past practices

ASME Y14.5-2009 Update Webinar
Cost: $495 per person - In this class you will learn the major changes that have been made to the
ASME Y14.5-2009 standard. Discover why and when you will want to move to this latest revision.
Tec-Ease will be presenting live via the Internet and telephone using the WebEx training portal. In
this Webinar you will learn the major changes that have been made to the ASME Y14.5-2009
standard. Discover why and when you will want to move to this latest revision.
Equipment Requirements: A computer with a high-speed Internet connection and a phone
preferably with a headset.
We will cover changes which:
• Add new concepts and symbols to clarify the meaning of the drawing
• Clarify concepts found in the 1994 revision
• Extend principles found in the 1994 revision
• Resolve differences or discrepancies found in the current standard
• Incorporate concepts from other Y14 standards
The major revisions of the Standard are driven by the needs of industry. A drawing today is defined in
the Y14.100 standard as "an engineering document or digital data file(s)". Designs and individual
parts are more complex today. In addition, the need for higher quality and improved productivity
demand that we get it right the first time. Because Tec-Ease, Inc. has been involved with this revision
every step of the way, we can provide the reasons for these changes. The application of the new
concepts will be shown on a variety of parts from castings and molded parts to sheet metal and other
fabricated parts. As in the past, the graphics for this webinar will be in full color and 3-D to make
understanding the revisions that much easier. We have also included many animations and exercises
