Hundreds of schools and thousands of parents across the country are furious about the decisions which have been made, particularly the fact that the choice of schools to receive funding has been on the basis of them being academies not because they were the schools with the most dire need. The complete inaccuracy of the list of schools has added to the confusion and frustration. In Brent the affected schools are Cardinal Hinsley, Alperton, Copland and Queens Park. Teachers, parents and pupils at these schools have been badly let down. Considerable resources have already been invested by these schools in the BSF process. The time is right, therefore, for us to mount a lobby of Parliament to identify the injustice and inequity of this Government’s policy and the damage it is doing for schools. Your Headteacher supports this lobby and is looking to release some staff on Monday to represent your school and be part of the Brent delegation. Ideally we are looking for colleagues who also live in Brent Central, the constituency of Sarah Teather and of your school. We would also welcome the support of any governors, parents or past- pupils who are interested in attending so please do not hesitate to invite them. The arrangements for the day are as follows: 12.45pm – Meet out the front of Methodist Central Hall Westminster under the Brent banners. Photos taken for local papers. 1 – 2pm – Attend rally at Methodist Central Hall. 2.30pm – To be confirmed. 12.07.2010Dear Colleague,

The NASUWT, ATL and NUT have arranged a mass lobby of Parliament on Monday July 19 to protest at the scrapping of the BSF programme. The time is right, therefore, for us to mount a lobby of Parliament to identify the injustice and inequity of this Gov -ernment’s policy and the damage it is doing for schools.

Your Headteacher supports this lobby and is looking to release some staff on Monday to represent your school and be part of the Brent delegation. Ideally we are looking for colleagues who also live in Brent Central, the constituency of Sarah Teather and of your school. We would also welcome the support of any governors, parents or past-pupils who are inter -ested in attending so please do not hesitate to invite them.

The arrangements for the day are as follows:

12.45pm – Meet out the front of Methodist Central Hall Westminster under the Brent banners. Photos taken for local pa -pers.

1 – 2pm – Attend rally at Methodist Central Hall.

2.30pm – To be confirmed. As Local Secretaries we are trying to arrange a meeting with Sarah Teather to lobby on behalf of all Brent schools affected. However we strongly encourage school delegates to do the same and lobby for your particular school. To do this you must write to Shenara (We do not at this time have her surname) at [email protected] requesting a meeting for that afternoon. Attached is the letter we have written to Ms Teather for guidance.

If you would like to attend the lobby please see your Headteacher for permission and make the necessary arrangements. We will be asking your Headteacher for a list of delegates in advance and will make contact with you before the day. In the meantime please feel free to contact either of us with any questions.

Kind regards,

Shane Johnschwager NASUWT Brent Secretary
