You are invited to join us September 16-18 for "Building Bridges," Central's 2016 missions weekend.

"Building Bridges" kicks off Friday night with a special seminar by Mark and Mary*, who work to build bridges of friendship, trust, and understanding between Muslims and Christians. God has given Mark and Mary Jane* a strong love for Muslims in the U.S. and around the world. They frequently speak at churches around the U.S., encouraging Christians to engage in sincere conversation and genuine friendship with Muslim people. They focus on letting go of fear, anger, and harmful stereotypes and entering into honest dialogue about faith matters: “What is God like?” “Why did Jesus come to earth?” “How can we enter heaven/paradise?”

The seminar continues Saturday morning, followed by lunch at a local Middle Eastern restaurant. This is a wonderful chance to enjoy some delicious cuisine, experience just a small touch of another culture, and enjoy fellowship with friends old and new. The cost for lunch is $10 per person and a shuttle bus will be provided. Space is limited. To register, please

    visit www.centralpres.com/buildingbridges.

On Sunday, artist Mauricio Palacio will paint a canvas during both worship services, as well as during the missions luncheon. His work seeks to use the language of art to motivate others to examine their views and beliefs for growth and healing. His international missionary and teaching experience continue to open new doors for ministry around the world. Mauricio participates in individual and collective exhibitions as well as teaching seminars and workshops in churches, schools, universities and other venues.

Following the 10:45 service on Sunday the 18th, there will be a missions lunch in the Fellowship Hall. It is free, and all are invited.

We hope you will be able to join in on the fun for all or part of the weekend. Missions week is always a great opportunity to hear about the many incredible ways God is working throughout the world and how the gospel is spreading. Full details about the weekend are online at www.centralpres.com/buildingbridges.

*Last name omitted due to the sensitivity of their work.

Our current election cycle has left many people confused and discouraged, yet this season also opens many avenues to share how the wisdom and hope of Christ are a solid foundation for our personal and public lives. The Civil Politics seminar this weekend helped us to not only identify such opportunities, but also act upon them in a way that honors and glorifies the Lord.

If you missed the seminar or would just like to continue the conversation, EquipCentral can help. It's not too late to join "Politics and the Bible," a class exploring biblical foundations of a Christian view of politics to discover God’s purposes for government.

On October 12, a new six-week course begins. "Conversations on Deep Differences in Politics, Culture, and Religion" examines how Christians can live and share the good news of Jesus in a culture that is deeply divided on moral, political, and religious matters. I’m a parent, and every time I turn around someone wants to “partner with me." What does that mean? I’m also a ministry leader. Everything I do falls under a mission statement that says in part; “partner with parents."

One day a mom called, asking to chat. She said, “I’m looking for more opportunities for my kids to be in God’s word during the week. I have an idea that might be incorporated into the EquipCentral program.”

This is a parent who knows me and this ministry well. I listened, asked questions, and we brainstormed together. I loved the idea! We now offer a short take-home study for kids to use from Wednesday to Wednesday. It’s purely optional and available for anyone who wants it.

And it feels like a partnership. Two parties, invested in a shared mission, willing to be changed by the other. I still don’t have a clear definition for “Partnering With Parents," but it's getting closer, and I certainly know it when I see it. And I'm thrilled when I’m blessed by it.
