The Hong Kong 7s took on a whole new meaning with the recent announcement that Cape Town would be hosting their own World Rugby 7's tournament at the end of the year. The Cape Town Sevens will join a host of new and iconic venues on the Series circuit – which has already added Sydney and Vancouver to its schedule – with the full line-up of host cities and dates to be confirmed by World Rugby (formerly the IRB) in due course.
Always important to do a recce even if you are the co-founder of the largest Tens Tournament in the world, Bob was part of a delegation who enjoyed meeting sporting and business associates alike and taking in the lights and sounds of Hong Kong and picking up on the heartbeat of the Sevens Tournament. Stand by Cape Town, it’s going to be big… very big!

‘Underwater’ sharks in Gansbaai were recently treated to a show and a half! Up in the cage ahead of them were Marc Lottering, Bob Skinstad, Mark McChlery, Andre Coetzer and Dan Nicholl. A fine and meaty line up!
After much splashing, yelps and “whoa did you see that” the brave contingent stepped back up on board the private www.sharkwatchsa.com charter looking every bit of the shark cage diver in their super slim wetsuits and goggles. Marc’s hair remained unfazed by the escapade!
An earlier challenge from Dan Nicholl to accompany him for a shark cage dive for an insert on the newly launched www.thedannichollshow.co.za saw the Overstrand ambassador, Bob Skinstad, take up the challenge and arranged for the small group to fly out over the magnificent Overstrand region with a
www.base4.co.za helicopter to the dive. It was then a flight over to the gorgeous Creation Wine Farm in the picturesque Hemel en Aarde Valley for an exceptional food and wine pairing with owner Carolyn Martin.
Sharp business executives were hosted on the day and in farewell said that “no words” could express the superb day that it was!

The International Law Firm, Hogan Lovells, was recent host to the latest Rugby Business Network event held in Johannesburg last week. A great gathering of legal minds, business executives, sporting personalities and guests gathered to enjoy some riveting conversations in the hub of Sandton.
Dr Zuko Kubukeli, CEO of Pan African Private Equity spoke about Investment and the future of Renewable Energy with a very clear message that the time is now moving from the “Indian Tiger to the African Lion” and that we are respected as global players in this arena.
Encouraging indeed! Bob Skinstad, Chairman of the Rugby Business Network in SA, delivered his new presentation entitled “Hooligans & Gentlemen” on the history of rugby and the RWC.
A great mix of conversations on the night enjoyed by all and sincere thanks to Rajen Ranchhoojee, Partner at Hogan Lovells, and team for their warm and generous hospitality hosting this event.

A Tongue-in-cheek Talk on the Little Known History of Rugby ~ by Bob Skinstad
Was William Webb Ellis really the first to run with the oval-
shaped ball? What was touted as the first ever Rugby World
Championship? Where does the tradition of awarding rugby
caps come from and why did it take so long for the game to
go professional? What was it like to be a Lion on tour to
New Zealand in '71 or South Africa in '74, and what does it
mean to win a Rugby World Cup?
Sparked by his enthusiasm and curiosity to better understand
the history of the game that he so dearly loves, ex-Springbok
Captain Bob Skinstad has spent the better part of a year
researching the story of rugby - not too easy for a battle-
hardened loose forward to do, mind you!
What he found in the half gaps was an untold rugby heritage:
of hooligans and heroes, of epic rugby battles fought and
friendships forged, as the game grew across the globe.
Bob wants to share this journey with you. A journey that
starts on the school fields of Rugby and now leads to the
hallowed grounds of Twickenham, home to the 2015 Rugby
World Cup Final.
This is not just a talk for rugby lovers. This is a talk for anyone
who is interested in the endeavours of the human spirit as we
find ways to tackle our shared humanity through our desire to
compete on level playing fields. And win.

predictions about who to watch out for at RWC15. That would
