1.3 INFORMATIONABOUTTHEUNITEDKINGDOMAND LONDON
1.3.1 The United KingdomLocation: The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is situated in the north west corner of Europe and shares only one border, with the Republic of Ireland. Located between the North Atlantic and the North Sea, the UK is in places only 35km from the coast of France. The countries are separated by the English Channel.
Area: 243,610 sq km
Government: The UK is a monarchy. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has been the reigning Sovereign since 1952.
Population: 65,110,000 (2015)
Climate: The UK has a temperate climate, with summer starting from June, and July normally being the warmest month of the year. In summer the average temperature is 20C (68F). The highest recorded temperature is 38.5C (101.3F), which was reached in Faversham, Kent, in August 2003.
The prevailing winds come off the Atlantic Ocean in the south west, and can bring frequent spells of mild and wet weather.
Language: The official language is English, but more than 100 languages are spoken across the UK. One in five people in London has a first language that is not English (Office of National Statistics 2013).
Religion: The official religion in the UK is Christianity as practised by the Anglican Church. Followers of this branch of Christianity are known as Protestants. Christians constitute about 71% of the population, but the UK is a multi-faith society and all other religions, including Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism, are freely practised.
Capital: London
Local Time: During the period of the IAAF World Championships the UK is on British Summer Time (GMT plus one hour).
Electricity: Standard mains power in the UK is supplied at 230/240 Volts AC @ 50 Hertz. The traditional three-pin fused plug conforms to British Standard BS 1363.
Driving: Traffic drives on the left with right-hand drive cars. Seat belts are required by law to be worn at all times by everyone travelling in a car or van. It is prohibited by law to use any handheld mobile device when driving. Drinking and driving is a serious offence and the limit is 80 milligrams per 100ml of blood. All traffic laws are strictly enforced. For information on the London Congestion Charge, a toll paid by vehicles driving through certain areas of the city at busy times, please visit www.tfl.gov.uk/congestioncharge. For further information on driving in London visit www.tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving.
Telephone Numbers: Telephone numbers that begin with 01, 02 and 03 are landline domestic or business numbers. Telephone numbers that begin with 07 are mobile numbers.
Telephone Country Code: +44
International Calls: To dial either a landline or a mobile number from an international phone, the initial 0 needs to be omitted and the UK country code used in its place. For example: 020 8765 4321 becomes +44 20 8765 4321 and 07987 654 321 becomes +44 7987 654 321.
Mobile Phone Networks: The UK uses the GSM 900 network, which covers Europe, Australia and New Zealand, but is not compatible with the North American GSM 1900 or the non-GSM system that is in use in Japan (though many North Americans have GSM 1900/900 phones that do work in the UK). If you have a GSM phone, check with your service provider about using it in the UK, and beware of calls being routed internationally. It is usually most convenient to buy a local SIM card topped up with your preferred value (normally a minimum of £5).

Approximate Exchange Rate: 0.79 GBP to 1 US Dollar – 0.87 GBP to 1 Euro
Coins: 1 pence (p); 2p; 5p; 10p; 20p; 50p; £1; £2
Notes: £5; £10; £20; £50 New £5 banknote introduced in 2016:

1.3.2 LondonLondon is the capital of the UK and one of the most visited cities in the world. It is the most populous municipality in the European Union. From history and culture to fine foods and good times, London has something to offer every visitor. The city’s diverse, dynamic culture makes it among the world’s most vibrant cities.
In recent years, London has become a capital for sports, hosting major events such as the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, IAAF Diamond League, Premier League football, the 2015 Rugby World Cup, and the 2013 Rugby League World Cup. London has hosted the Olympic Games on three occasions (1908, 1948 and 2012) since the introduction of the modern edition in 1896, becoming the first city in the world to do so.
Following the World Para Athletics Championships and the IAAF World Championships, London will continue in its sport-loving tradition, hosting the ATP World Tour Tennis Finals and the semi-finals and finals of the 2020 UEFA Euro Championships among other major events.
Area: 1,579 sq km
Population: 8.63 million (2015; 13% of the UK population)

The LOC is working closely with UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) to ensure that Visa Decision Making Centres are fully informed about the IAAF World Championships and the visa applications they can expect to receive. All applications will be subject to the UK’s Immigration Rules, which can be viewed at www.gov.uk/guidance/immigration-rules/immigration-rules-index.
Please refer to Appendix for a list of countries whose citizens are visa nationals and require visas to enter the UK. You can also check if you require a visa at www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa.

Important Note: To receive any agreed travel expense reimbursement, the following documents must be given to the IAAF on site, during the accreditation procedure, for the athletes and for the First Congress Delegate: • The ticket (or e-ticket) indicating the price • The original invoice from the travel agency If one of the above-mentioned documents is missing the travel costs will be at the charge of the Member Federation.
4.3 ACCOMMODATIONSUPPORTThe LOC will offer full-board accommodation in twin rooms for a maximum of 13 nights during the period of the Championships (arrival 1 August, departure 14 August). There is no financial support for any team officials (except for one Congress Delegate – see below). Additional costs will be charged for the use of single rooms (see 5.2.2). If an athlete for whom the IAAF/LOC have provided financial support is on site but does not compete, the IAAF/LOC have the right to reclaim the travel and accommodation support.
First Congress Delegate One Congress Delegate from each delegation will also benefit from full board accommodation in a single room for a maximum of 15 nights (arrival 30 July, departure 14 August), regardless of where he is staying (see details in 5.3.2).
4.4 REFUNDSIf you have been authorised by the IAAF (on behalf of the LOC) to purchase your own tickets, the agreed amount for each competing athlete and for the First Congress Delegate will be included in the IAAF/LOC Financial Statement issued on site. It should be noted that no cash refund payments will be made to teams on site. Reimbursements will be made by bank transfer after the Championships
5.1 GENERALThe LOC has made accommodation arrangements for athletes, team officials and Congress Delegates (who are part of the team) in five hotels of similar standard. The hotels will officially open with full services on 1 August. Prior to that date there will be a reduced Help Desk service in the Team Hotels to assist with accommodation matters for any teams who arrive earlier.
For accommodation of Congress Delegates who are NOT part of the team see 5.3.
5.2 TEAMSThe following arrangements concern all athletes and team officials (including any Congress Delegates who are also team officials).
The number of officials who may be accommodated with the team will be limited overall to 80% of the number of participating athletes (e.g. if the team has 50 athletes the maximum number of officials is 40).
The officials are divided into two categories:
Subsidised officials (up to maximum 55% of the participating athletes)
Non-subsidised officials (up to maximum 25% of the participating athletes) - see table in Appendix
This quota will include any Congress Delegates who are also team officials. It will be possible for additional officials (above 80%) to be accredited but they will have to purchase an Extra Coach Package (see 3.5).
Reservations will be made by the LOC based on the accommodation requirements indicated in the Preliminary and Final Entries.

Any cancellation received after 24 July (after the first two persons) will be considered as a no-show and will be invoiced by the LOC for the corresponding reservation period.
Member Federations will be expected to settle all the extra accommodation costs not covered by the LOC upon arrival in London, during the accreditation procedure. In most cases these extra costs shall be for:

• accommodation outside the official period
• special arrangements requested to the LOC
• extra coach packages (see 3.5)
In those cases in which the Member Federation has been authorised to purchase its own tickets and the IAAF needs to refund the corresponding cost, the amount to be refunded will normally be used to cover all or part of the extra accommodation costs. However, if the amount is insufficient, or if the travel arrangements have been made by the IAAF, the extra accommodation costs must be paid for by the Member Federation directly.
Payments to the LOC can be made in cash (GBP, USD or Euros) or by credit card: Master Card, Visa.
5.2.3 ReservationsYou should have already submitted a provisional accommodation reservation with your Preliminary Entries using the appropriate accommodation section in the IAAF online Event Entry System.

8.1 THELONDONSTADIUMThe Championships will take place in the London Stadium (55,000 seats), Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the venue for the 2012 Olympic Games. Since 2012, a new Community Track has been built immediately beside the stadium. This will provide the main warm-up facility and will subsequently be available for school and community use after the Championships.
Since the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park has been transformed into one of the largest urban parks in the UK. It is still home to some of the most iconic venues from the Games – London Stadium, London Aquatics Centre, Lee Valley VeloPark, The Copper Box Arena and Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.
The Stadium has undergone a major rebuilding programme to transform it into a multi-use venue. It is now the National Competition Centre for UK Athletics, hosting the annual Anniversary Games Diamond League event, and home of West Ham United Football Club. A retractable seating system has been installed, and a new roof covers every seat. A brand new Mondo track ensures athletes have the best surface on which to compete.
As well as athletics and football, the Stadium hosted five matches during the 2015 Rugby World Cup and has staged a number of music concerts.
8.2 MARATHONCOURSEThe men’s and women’s Marathons will be held on Sunday 6 August. Set against some of the capital’s most historically significant and picturesque backdrops, the 42.195km (26.219 miles) Marathon route will start and finish at Tower Bridge in central London. With the backdrop for the start of the races provided by the historic Tower of London, the route will comprise four laps of a 10km course on closed roads, heading west along Victoria Embankment towards the Houses of Parliament, then back alongside the River Thames to St Paul’s Cathedral, and returning to the Tower of London.
Medallists from the men’s and women’s races will receive their awards in front of the Tower of London, where a medal stage and supporter zone will be created to make the most of the day’s World Championships atmosphere.
8.3. RACEWALKSCOURSEOn Sunday 13 August, the unique ‘Festival of Race Walks’ will be staged on The Mall, St James’s Park, with the kind permission of The Royal Parks, on a 2km loop between Buckingham Palace and Admiralty Arch. The 20km races consists of 10 laps of the course, while the athletes will tackle 25 laps in the 50km event.
The Race Walk medals will be presented on The Mall, providing a beautiful backdrop for the ceremonies.

9.1 ATHLETES’ENTRIESANDQUALIFICATIONThe entry and participation principles for the IAAF World Championships were thoroughly reviewed by the IAAF in 2014 and a new Qualification System was implemented. This has been available since April 2014 in the latest edition of the IAAF Technical Regulations (published on the IAAF website).
The key element of the new System is that the IAAF has established the ideal number of athletes (and relay teams) to start in each event of the Championships and shall ensure that such ideal numbers (see below) are met through a Qualification System which, essentially, combines Entry Standards (only one standard) and Rankings. As in the past, there are some special qualification opportunities and it will still be possible for Member Federations without any qualified athletes to be represented by one unqualified athlete (subject to certain conditions).
The ideal number of athletes (and relay teams) to start in each event:
Events Target Number
100m (after Preliminary Round for unqualified athletes)
56
200m 56
400m, 800m 48
1500m, 3000mSC 45
5000m, 100mH, 110mH, 400mH 40
Field Events, Combined Events 32
Relays 16

The Entry and Qualification System for London 2017 is detailed below.

Member Federations with no qualified athletes or relay team can compete with one unqualified individual athlete only, subject to the below conditions.
9.3.2 Relay Teams A maximum of six athletes may be entered for each Relay Team. All athletes already entered in the corresponding individual events (100m or 400m) including the eventual reserve shall automatically count towards the six entries of the team. Any four athletes among those entered for the competition, whether for the relay or for any other event, may then be used in the composition of the team for the first round.
9.4 QUALIFICATIONSYSTEM
9.4.1 Qualification Period• For the 10000m, Marathon, Race Walks, Relays and Combined Events: from 1 January

If both are from the same country, only one of the two can be entered with this Wild Card
If a Member Federation has four athletes in one event as a result of this regulation, all four will be permitted to compete.

Lanes 2-9 will be used for all events run entirely in lane when there are fewer than nine athletes.
10.11.2 Field Event TrialsTwelve athletes will normally compete in the final of all Field Events. In horizontal jumps and throws, the competing order for the fourth, fifth and final rounds of trials will be in reverse ranking order recorded after the first three rounds of trials.
10.11.3 Pole VaultAn athlete shall, before the competition starts, inform the appropriate official of the position of the uprights he/she requires for his/her first trial and this position shall be recorded. If subsequently an athlete wants to make any changes, he/she should immediately inform the appropriate official before the uprights have been set in accordance with his/her initial wishes, otherwise the time for his/her attempt will continue to run.
10.11.4 Coaching ZonesDedicated seating will be provided for field event coaches close to the event site. The seats will be accessible by means of a specific ticket for that event, one per athlete, distributed through the TIC once the start lists are issued. The tickets will refer to a specific period of time and block of seats. Coaches must vacate the allocated seats immediately after the conclusion of the event.
10.12TIMINGANDMEASUREMENTOfficial timing and measurement will be provided by Seiko
Transponder timing will be used for all Track Events of 800m and over for intermediate times and to assist with lap counting. For all these events, the front bib (with the transponder) will be handed out at the Call Room. A final test of the transponders will be done with control mats as the athletes leave the Call Room. Immediately after the race, the bibs with the transponders will be collected in Post Event Control. More details will be provided at the Technical Meeting.
Official timing for the road events: see Marathon and Race Walk competition procedures for more details.
Video Distance Measurement (VDM) and Electronic Distance Measurement (EDM) will be used as the official measurement system to determine the results in the horizontal jumps and throws respectively.
10.13POSTCOMPETITIONPROCEDURESAthletes will always leave the Field of Play via the Mixed Zone.
In the Mixed Zone, the media may conduct short interviews. Please note that the first three athletes in each Final may also be required to attend a formal interview.
After passing through the Mixed Zone, athletes move to Post Event Control where they will be able to recover and collect their clothing. Post Event Control is located at the end of the Press Mixed Zone. Team Officials will be allowed to access the end of the Press Mixed Zone by means of a special pass.
In case of a Medal Ceremony, press conference or doping control, the athletes concerned will be escorted to the relevant area.
46 47
10.14MEDALCEREMONIESThe first three athletes in each individual event and the first three teams in relay races will each be presented with a gold, silver and bronze medal respectively. When a team competes in the First Round of the relays and in the Final with more than four athletes, only the four athletes in the Final will be awarded medals during the official ceremony. The other athletes will receive their medals later at the TIC.
All the Medal Ceremonies will take place at the London Stadium, with the exception of the Race Walks and the Marathon. The Marathon medals will be presented at The Moat at The Tower of London, and the Race Walk medals will be presented on The Mall. At the Stadium, the Medal Ceremony podium will be located on the finish straight, outside the track.
A provisional Medal Ceremonies timetable has been drafted. Where Medal Ceremonies are held on the same day as the relevant competition, this will usually occur before the doping control procedures. LOC staff will be responsible for gathering the first three athletes or Relay teams and escorting them to the Ceremonies Holding Area where they will wait for the ceremony. For those Ceremonies held on the following day, the medallists will receive an information sheet while in the Post Event Control, which will indicate the time that they are to report to the TIC the next day.
The athletes must wear their delegation’s official uniform at Medal Ceremonies. During the playing of the anthem and the raising of the flags, they shall face the flags and conduct themselves in a dignified manner at all times. The medallists will not be permitted to bring a national flag nor any other items to the ceremony.
10.15ROADEVENTS

The Marathon Start/Finish is a short walk from four of the Team Hotels and a shuttle bus service will be provided from the Grange St Paul’s Hotel.
The Course
The start and finish line of the Marathon is at Tower Bridge. The course is four laps plus an outbound and inbound section of approximately 445m from and to Tower Bridge. Each lap is a little more than 10km in distance.
The shortest possible route of the Marathon will be indicated on the road surface with a coloured line.
Start
The Call Room will be inside the Guoman Tower Hotel and athletes will be called to report 25 minutes before the start time of each Marathon. The normal checks on clothing will take place and the athletes will then be escorted to the start area, where they will be able to continue to warm up.
The time remaining until the start will be displayed for athletes at five minutes, three minutes and one minute before the race begins.
Officials will line up the athletes selected to start in the first row, after which all other athletes may line up without any pre-set order.
Timing
The Photo Finish System will be used to obtain finishing times and transponders on the shoe will also be used for the timing of the Marathons. The transponders will be distributed in the Call Room and a final test of the transponders will be done with control mats as the athletes leave the Call Room.
Immediately after the race, the transponders will be collected in Post Event Control. Athletes who do not finish the race must return their transponder to Post Event Control (or to a Competition Official if this is impractical).
Every five kilometres will be marked along the route and the current race time will be displayed on the lead vehicle at the head of the race, with additional display clocks placed every five kilometres (and half-Marathon point) throughout the course, where intermediate times will be recorded.
Retiring from the Race
Due to the Marathon being a lap course, three athlete drop-out areas will be available. During the first three laps any athletes unable to complete the race, or who have been disqualified, will be taken to one of these areas and driven to Post Event Control. Should an athlete be unable to continue the race due to physical difficulties, they must inform the nearest Competition Official indicating that they would like to abandon the race. To properly indicate the intention to retire from the race, the athlete is asked to remove their bib.
On the final lap, a sweep vehicle will follow the last athlete in the race to pick up any athletes who are unable to complete the race or who have been disqualified. This vehicle will follow the race route to the finish, where athletes will be dropped at Post Event Control.
Due to the women’s race preceding the men’s, a secondary finish line will be located on East Smithfield which will only operate should an athlete in the women’s race take longer than two hours and 45 minutes. Any athlete over this time will be directed to this location by race officials and a manual time will be recorded.
Water / Sponging and Personal Refreshment Stations
There are two Water Stations and two Personal Refreshment Stations on the course. Athletes will pass these on each of the laps meaning there are four opportunities to take on fluids per lap should they require. These stations are approximately 2.5km apart.
At the end of each Water Station, sponges will be available for athletes. The Personal Refreshment Stations will also hold water on the last table.
Water Station 1 Embankment after White Lion Hill
Water Station 2 St Paul’s Churchyard
Personal Drink Station 1 Lower Thames Street
Personal Drink Station 2 Embankment Somerset House
48 49
There will be signs placed 100m before each station.
Should an athlete take a refreshment from a place other than the officially designated Water or Personal Refreshment Stations, he/she may be liable to disqualification.
Water / Sponging Stations
At the Water / Sponging Stations the LOC will provide the following:
• Non-refrigerated still water in sealed bottles

It is a requirement that the runners pick-up their sponges/drinks themselves from the tables.
Personal Refreshment Stations
Each team will have its own table which will be marked with their national flag and the IAAF Member Federation Code (e.g. Great Britain and NI = GBR). The tables will be arranged in alphabetical order according to this code.
Personal refreshments must be taken to the Personal Refreshment Stations directly by team officials. Transport will be available to each refreshment station, leaving the start area 60 minutes prior to the start of each Marathon.
For those athletes who do not have any team officials to assist them, bottles should be handed in to the TIC at the Marathon start area at least 60 minutes before the race start time. The bottles will be placed on the table by LOC officials according to the indications on the bottles. The athletes must pick up the bottles themselves.
The LOC will provide bottles for personal refreshments and adhesive labels. These will be distributed through the Help Desks in the Team Hotels. The athletes will also be able to use their own bottles provided that they comply with current IAAF Advertising Regulations.
It is important that all personal refreshments clearly display the following information:
• Athlete’s name
• Three-letter Member Federation Code
• Refreshment station at which the refreshment is to be placed
All athletes will be responsible for the identification of their bottles.
After bottles have been brought to the refreshment station, the Judges will inspect them with regards to the IAAF Advertising Regulations. Any confiscated bottles will be returned to team officials.
Team officials will be permitted to hand their athletes the personal refreshments at the Personal Refreshment Stations but are not permitted to leave the designated area to follow the athletes on the course. Two officials from each team will have access to each of the refreshment stations. The team officials will be required to have special passes to access the stations. These passes may be picked up at the TIC in the Stadium up to the day before the races.
Toilets will be available at the end of each of the Water Stations and Personal Refreshment Stations.
Marathon Course Familiarisation
There will be no guided tour of the Marathon course. Instead, a DVD of the course will be available to teams.
10.15.2 Race WalksThe Festival of Race Walks will take place on The Mall and will see the 50km, Women’s 20km and Men’s 20km take place during the last day of the Championships.
Shuttle buses will be provided from the Team Hotels to The Mall.
Along the side of The Mall, marquees will house key event areas including Team Tents, Changing, Medical, Massage, Call Room and TIC.
The Course
The start and finish for the Race Walks will be in the centre of The Mall adjacent to Marlborough Road. The course is a 2km loop in an anti-clockwise direction, where athletes will head east towards Admiralty Arch before turning and then heading west towards Buckingham Palace and turning around the Queen Victoria Memorial.
Start
The Call Room will be alongside the course and athletes will be called to report 25 minutes before the start time of each Race Walk.
Timing
The official timing for the Race Walks will be by transponders. All athletes will be given their bib, which includes their transponder, at the Call Room. A final test of the transponders will be done with control mats as the athletes leave the Call Room. It is important that the bib is securely attached with safety pins to the athlete’s competition vest to ensure accurate time keeping.
Immediately after the race, the bibs and transponders will be collected in Post Event Control. Athletes who do not finish the race must return their transponder to Post Event Control (or to a Competition Official if this is impractical).
Intermediate times will be displayed at every kilometre and, to help athletes keep track of the laps completed, there will be a lap counter set up at the end of each lap showing the number of laps remaining.
Retiring from the Race
Should an athlete be unable to continue the race due to physical difficulties, they must inform the nearest Competition Official, indicating that they would like to abandon the race. To properly indicate the intention to retire from the race, the athlete is asked to remove his or her bib.
Disqualification
Should the Chief Judge or a Chief Judge’s Assistant inform an athlete of their disqualification, the disqualified athlete is required to leave the course immediately, removing their bib and transponder, and to return directly to Post Event Control.
Electronic posting boards showing the red cards and disqualifications will be placed beside the course.

CLEAN ATHLETICS
PROGRAMME
Sample Collection at the IAAF World Championships London 2017 will be conducted in accordance with IAAF Competition Rules and IAAF Anti-Doping Regulations. The programme will be overseen by the IAAF Anti-Doping Delegate. The LOC will be responsible for organising the testing.
The Sample Collection Programme will consist of both pre- and in-Competition testing carried out from the official opening of the Team Hotels until the end of the IAAF World Championships.
Athletes will be selected for testing through a combination of random and intelligence-led methods and will be notified of their selection by trained and accredited officers. The Team Leader/Official will be required to assist in informing, notifying and, when necessary, accompanying the athletes to the Sample Collection Station. At the time of notification the officer will show the athlete their accreditation and advise them which type of sample (blood, urine or both) they will be asked to provide. They will then chaperone the athlete to the Sample Collection Station where the sample will be collected. The athlete will be required to show official photographic identification (e.g. IAAF World Championships accreditation card) before providing the sample so should ensure that they are carrying this at all times.
An athlete breaking or equalling a World Record (including World Junior Record) will be required to undergo Sample Collection as a condition of validation of the World Record. If an athlete requests to have Sample Collection carried out for the authentication of a National Record, such a test will be carried out on a fee-payable basis at the request of a Team Official. In this case, the application procedure will have to be completed at the In-Competition Sample Collection Station (to be contacted through the TIC).
Athletes who need to use substances or methods contained in the list of ‘Prohibited Substances or Methods,’ for therapeutic purposes must comply with the IAAF Anti-Doping Rules and Regulations, and ensure that they have the appropriate authorisation in accordance with the Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) application process.
Clean Athletics outreach stands will be set up in the Team Hotels. Athletes and their support personnel are encouraged to visit the stands and interact with the Clean Athletics Team. Athletes and support personnel will be able to take part in interactive computer quizzes that will allow them to demonstrate their knowledge on the subject.

Marathons
a) Marathon races conducted at competitions held under IAAF Rule 1.1(a), (b), (c), (f) and (g) will not necessarily be listed. However, the results will be valid for the purpose of entry standards.
b) For all other Marathon races, only performances achieved on courses that respect the following criteria are valid towards the achievement of the Entry Standards:
• the course is (or will be) measured prior to the race by an IAAF/AIMS Grade “A” or “B” International Road Race Course Measurer
• the measurement certificate must have been established no more than 5 years before the date of the race;
• the overall decrease in elevation between the start and finish shall not exceed 1:1000, i.e., 1m per km.
• The list of marathon courses that meet the above criteria can be found on the IAAF website. It is the responsibility of Member Federations and Organisers to make sure that a proper measurement is conducted by an IAAF/AIMS approved Grade A or B International Measurer and that the measurement report is sent to the relevant Area Measurement Administrator for the certificate to be issued, before the race is conducted.
c) In addition, the top 10 finishers at the IAAF Gold Label Marathons (in 2016 and in 2017) held within the qualification period will also be considered as having achieved the Entry Standard (the list of the Gold Label Marathons for 2016 and 2017 is published on the IAAF Website).
The contact email address for any matters related to qualifying marathon courses is [email protected].
Race Walk Events
a) Performances achieved at Race Walk Events staged at International Competitions defined under IAAF Rule 1.1(a), (b), (c), (d), (e), (f), (g) or (j) are valid towards the achievement of the Entry Standards providing the following conditions (where applicable) are respected:
• the course is (or will be) measured by an IAAF/AIMS Grade “A” or “B” International Road Race Course Measurer;
• a minimum of 3 International or Area Race Walking Judges are on duty.
b) Performances achieved at International Competitions defined under IAAF Rule 1.1 (i), or at National Competitions, are valid towards the achievement of the Entry Standards ONLY if the Member Federation concerned submits a specific application to the IAAF. The application letter, indicating the date, venue and programme of events of the Competition, must confirm that the above conditions will be respected.
The 2016 list of current qualifying race walk competitions can be found on the IAAF website. Member Federations who want their national permit competitions to be added to the list for 2017, and qualify for the World Championships, must make sure that a proper measurement is conducted by an IAAF/AIMS approved Grade A or B International Measurer and that minimum three International or Area Race Walking Judges are on duty. This information must be provided to the IAAF by submitting the application form provided (IAAF Circular letter M/24/16 – appendix G) before the race is conducted.
The contact email address for any matters related to qualifying race walk courses is [email protected]

AREA CHAMPIONS
Regulations for Automatic Qualification to the IAAF World Championships (not applicable for relays and marathon)
1. The Area Champion (in each individual event to be contested at the World Championships) automatically qualifies for the World Championships, irrespective of whether his performance has reached the Entry Standard. This does not apply to Field Events where the entry of the athlete will be subject to the approval of the Technical Delegates.
2. The Area Champion shall be the one who has achieved the title either in 2016 or 2017. If an Area does not have Area Championships in that period, then the Area may organise an alternate event to select the Area Champion. This designation shall be made before the alternate event, and the IAAF shall be notified of that designation at least one month before the event.
3. The Member Federation of the Area Champion will have the ultimate authority to enter the athlete or not, based on its own domestic standard or qualification system.
4. If the Member Federation of the Area Champion enters the athlete, he will be considered as having achieved the Entry Standard.
5. If the Area Champion, for whatever reason, is not entered, his quota will not be delegated to the second placed athlete and the normal entry rules and conditions apply.
6. For those Area Championships that do not have certain events, the Area Associations can organise alternate Area-specific event Championships with conditions conforming to Area Championships Regulations. The IAAF shall be notified of such alternative Championships at least one month in advance of the events’ being held.
7. For an Area having “restricted” Area Championships (where the participation is not open to all athletes), the Area Association may specify an existing competition of a suitable standard for the purpose of identifying the Area Champion. In such cases, it is necessary that all Member Federations within the Area be invited to compete in this Competition. The IAAF shall be notified of such competition at least one month in advance of its being held.

• Le parcours a été, ou sera, mesure par un Mesureur International de Parcours sur Route de Catégorie “A” ou “B” de l’IAAF/AIMS ;
• Le Certificat de Mesurage devra avoir été établi au maximum 5 ans avant la date de tenue de la course ;
• Le parcours a été, ou sera, mesuré par un Mesureur International de Parcours sur Route de Catégorie “A” ou “B” de l’IAAF/AIMS ;
