THE COMPETITIONS

BAJASAEINDIA:The BAJA SAE tasks the students to design, fabricate and validate a single seater fourwheel

off road vehicle to take part in series of events spread over a course of 3 days that test the vehicle for the sound engineering practices that have gone into it, the agility

of the vehicle in terms of gradebility, speed, acceleration and maneuverability characteristics and finally its ability to endure that breaking durability test.

ENDURO STUDENT INDIA: Enduro Student India is a college level engineering de-

sign competition. Participating teams comprise of under-graduate and postgraduate engineering students and as a team

they are tasked to design, build, test, race and promote a single seater 4 wheeler off-road vehicle. This event is meant ‘FOR THE STU-

DENTS’ and main focus is on the educational aspect of the competition. Also considering to participate in MEGA ATV CHAMPIONSHIP, NEXUS,FMAE BAJA.

THE COLLEGEAND COLLEGIATE CLUB> > >SJEC is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, Karnataka State, and is recognized by the All India Council for Technical (AICTE), New Delhi. Estab-lished in 2002, the College offers top class education in Engineering, Business Adminis-tration and Computer Applications at undergraduate, postgraduate and research levels.SJEC SAE-INDIA Collegiate club provides an opportunity to all the students in SJEC to convert their theoretical knowledge into practical experience within the college itself by participating in the various events conducted by SAE-INDIA.It imbibes the qualities of teamwork, communication, hard work, dedication, time management etch into the students which will always keep them one step ahead of everyone else when they leave the college and launch their professional careers. It is an outstanding platform to showcase their talent and love toward automotives and automobiles. This club is open to students of all branches of Engineering in the college who are interested in this field.

The journey of Team SJEC Racing began when they first launched an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) called Turtle in 2016 and a followup to that car Turtle 2.0 in 2017. The ATV was ex-clusively designed and fabricated by our team. The vehicle was exhibited at various events across the country and impressed all its viewers. This year has been very progressive as we qualified for Enduro Student India 2019(ESI) and are preparing for Virtual BAJA 2019, and the fabrication is underway. This year we have decided to incorporate new innova-tions such as a fuel level indicator and GPS along with an overall improved design.

Turtle 3.0TURTLE 3.02019> > >At Team SJEC Racing our objective is to design and manufacture an ATV which is ergonomic, lightweight, compact, safe, maintainable, relaible and economic.The first priority in design of ATV is safety. Our driver can be safe if the roll cage accomadating him is strong enough to withstand all the forces during a collision or an compact. To satisfy this requirement, we will use AISI 4130 for the roll cage. We have analyzed our rollcage for this material using ANSYS Workbench for various impact forces and from the results, our rollcage is proven to be safe. Our com-pact design is highly stable with track width of 56” in the front and 44” in the rear. With the wheel base of 58”. We incoporate components of high quality and grade manufactured by renowned companies like the Engine by Briggs& Stratton model 19, 305cc, Suspensions by Fox,Wheels and rims by Polaris, Brake disc calipers by willwood. To achieve the desired speed, torque, and grade ability, we will couple Cvtech CVT to our light custom designed gearbox to reduce the kerb weight. The design of our ATV is such that it does not induce strain on any driver and it will accomadate drivers from the 95th per-centile male to 5th percentile female of our country and with adequate boot space, seat inclination, steering wheel,position and clearances around the driver. All these factors make our car Ergonomic.Turtle 2.0 is a performance inspired car. The efforts and hardwork that the past teams have motivat-ed us a lot and we have gathered enough data to make a even better car all around this time.
