Bienvenue à l’aventure,

Learning a foreign language is fun, exciting and very rewarding. This year, you will not only learn to read, speak, listen and write in French, you will also learn about its culture and food! If you have not learnt a foreign language before pas de panique! You must remember that we have all learnt to speak in our mother tongue, as our brain is designed to allow us to learn foreign languages. Obélix and I have learnt 107 languages and dialects to tell our adventures!

We firmly believe that success in year 7 French at Hugh Christie depends on how much effort you put in. Homework, allows you to revise, practise and consolidate what you have learnt in class at your own pace. As we only have 2 lessons a week, it is vital that you continue learning French outside the classroom to keep it ticking over.

We strongly advise you to top up your French. Little and often is best and as little as 10-15 minutes will make a significant difference. Why not get others at home to help you or even teach them? You’ll be surprised how easily grown-ups forget things!

3 Tips:“Get into the subject quickly, it’s great fun”.“Revise for 10 minutes everyday so it’s fresh in your mind”.“Make those flash cards – they really help!”

Remember, the more familiar you are with the content of what you are learning the more confident you will become. You will not need Panoramix’s magic potion. Are you ready for the French adventure?
