THEME - PROCEDURE

• Teacher gives definition of theme: central idea, purpose , concern of a story

• Teacher reads out a short story (eg The Tortoise and Hare) and states the theme

• T. gives other examples of popular legends, fables, fairy tales

• T. ask students to give themes

• T gives examples of how to construct a sentence when writing about the theme

• T divide class in groups of 3-4 persons• Students find the theme(s) of the story• Each group reads out their statements on

themes• Class selects the best theme and statement

and state their reasons for their selection
