LEGAL ENGLISH: AN EXCITING FIELD FOR AN ENGLISH TEACHER

HIDDEN, MIRACULOUS FIELDMy teaching belongs to a hidden

field. I help people getting better work opportunities through the study of Legal English at advanced and intermediate level.

MY OWN STORY AS AN EXAMPLEI used to be just a lawyer,

continuously trying to improve my English.

I sat for and passed FCE, CAE, TKT and eventually ILEC.

Then, I began teaching English at the Bar Association (San Luis, Argentina), while studying in order to become a professional teacher

at IFDC San Luis.

OPINION OF OTHERS IN REFERENCE TO LEGAL ENGLISHI know that some people might

consider Legal English a bit useless, futile, almost an

extravagance.

Some others advice me to teach just plain English, since that is a real need in my country and community.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO MY STUDENTS ALL ALONG THESE YEARS

Nevertheless, I have come to learn that Legal English is not something luxurious. It can change lives, too.

Legal English provides my students with new possibilities to grow and study.

For example, some of my students have managed to draft academic papers related to comparisons between Anglo-Saxon and Latin Legal Systems

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO MY STUDENTS ALL ALONG THESE YEARS

My students have managed to have their papers published in journals: their CV have improved drastically!

Other students had got their degree as lawyers at the same time as finishing our courses; later, they have been hired by the best law firms in the city!.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO MY STUDENTS ALONG THESE YEARSSome of my students are journalists and

they say that the topics dealt with in class are great for their professional development.

Other students are just teachers who want to expand their communication skills. And they succeed on that !
