3. Description of the course

3.1. Presentation

The aim of this course is to provide the student the knowledge of information systems, and its components like hardware, software, networks, database, web commerce, and the use of tools like database managers and spreadsheets as a tool for decision support systems.

The course Computing for Business is part of the block “Computing” which is formed by this course and Extended Computing for Business (third year, 4.5 ECTS, 2nd. quarter, elective).

4.1. Basic skills* from the study plan associated with the course

Que los estudiantes hayan demostrado poseer y comprender conocimientos en un área de estudio que parte de la base de la educación secundaria general, y se suele encontrar a un nivel que, si bien se apoya en libros de texto avanzados, incluye también algunos aspectos que implican conocimientos procedentes de la vanguardia de su campo de estudio.

Que los estudiantes sepan aplicar sus conocimientos a su trabajo o vocación de una forma profesional y posean las competencias que suelen demostrarse por medio de la elaboración y defensa de argumentos y la resolución de problemas dentro de su área de estudio.

Aplicar los métodos matemático-estadísticos y las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación para el tratamiento, valoración, y previsión de la información económico-empresarial.

Emitir informes de asesoramiento sobre situaciones concretas de la empresa y los mercados.

Planificar, organizar, decidir y controlar las diferentes áreas de la gestión empresarial, aplicando sistemas de gestión estratégica avanzada.

Conocer y gestionar la operativa financiero-bancaria. Planificar y ejecutar acciones de marketing operativo y estratégico de forma

innovadora. Analizar y resolver problemas jurídicos relacionados con la empresa. Aplicar al análisis de los problemas criterios profesionales basados en el manejo de

7.2. Mechanisms for control and tracking progress (optional)

Class attendance: The student will be evaluated on classroom attendance during the course. Attendance will account up to 10% of the final grade for the course (provided the student earns at least a 4 on the tests). Since the class size is small, each student's learning is monitored almost personally. The student's participation in the theoretical and practical classes will be evaluated. Exam: an examination will be given on the contents covered during the course, which will include theoretical and practical questions and problems to be solved. The characteristics of the exam, as well as the date, time and location will be indicated on the announcement, which is given at least 15 days before the scheduled exam. The tests (exams, classroom participation, solving practical cases, etc) enable detecting possible gaps and make it possible to consolidate the most important concepts of the course.
