Our staffThere are around 170 colleagues at SSV. We are proud to support learners of all abilities from around the globe – our Learning Support (AEN and EAL) teams provide excellent provisions for any students who require additional support. Each year group has a Head of Year (Years 7 to 11) and we have an Assistant Headteacher and Assistant Director of Sixth Form. As a teacher you may expect to have a tutor group.

Our Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher take responsibility for the day to day running of the school – five Assistant Headteachers support them in the areas of: Learning & Teaching; Student Leadership; Assessment & Reporting; Curriculum; and Sixth Form. Each of our faculties has a Head and each team has a Head of Department.

Our Faculty structure

We are fortunate to have a strong team of Technicians who support the Science Faculty and the Digital & Creative Arts Faculty. Our excellent team of Language Assistants offer support to the Modern Foreign Languages Faculty.

Our dedicated Careers department works closely with students and their tutors to offer first-rate career advice. A number of resources including our comprehensive Careers Library, help to support students’ decisions about their future education and employment.

Life at SSVSSV is housed in a modern, attractive building. Just some of our facilities include all weather pitches, 10 Science Laboratories, an ICT suite, a Music Department, an Art Studio, the School Library and modern Sixth Form common areas.

With our international setting we instil, in all of our students, open-mindedness, tolerance, integrity and an enjoyment of life. We offer a rich co-curricular programme. Instrumental Music Lessons, Basketball, Debating and Community Projects are just some examples of activities available to students.

Trips are also part of the culture at the BSN – we offer school trips, cultural exchanges and residential trips, most of which link closely with the curriculum. To get an impressions of the adventures available to our students take a look at our Twitter feed @BSNTrips.

Your teaching hoursThe school year is split into three terms. Full-time teachers are required to work 190 days per school year, 181 of which are teaching days (08:30–16:00).

Of the remaining nine days per year, four are reserved for carrying out administrative tasks and five are reserved for training and CPD (pro-rata for part-time teachers).

Your responsibilitiesBeing a Teacher at the BSN means cooperating with colleagues; having knowledge of best practices for teaching and learning; and an up to date knowledge of learning strategies. Teachers are required to plan and prepare lessons in advance, record and report on student development, and prepare students for examinations. A willingness to contribute to the school’s co-curricular programme is also an essential part of joining the BSN.

We are as ambitious for our staff as we are for our students. As such we expect all of our staff to take up development opportunities in line with their career, their team and the whole school vision.

CPDWe recognise that our greatest resource are our staff and we are committed to supporting your CPD.

The newly commissioned International Leadership Academy and BlueSky Education are a demonstration of our commitment to your development. We offer a range of excellent CPD opportunities throughout the year as well as on CPD days, including the new staff induction programme, Management Development Programme and our highly acclaimed bi-annual whole staff conference.
