Managing the Tough Task of Managing Students
Students today are well informed thanks to the information explosion. The biggest challenge
for you is to constantly stay ahead of them, keep them interested in academic activities and
ensuring they are engaged, so there is never a dull moment.
To do so, you would need multiple tools and activities. These could include learning support
content and videos, activities such as quizzes, debates and Q&A or group work such as
projects, or even shared interest related communities.
iON Learning Exchange can offer such tools to help reduce your workload and keep your
classroom buzzing with activity.
The Learning Practice Framework At the base of all these learning solutions, is the Learning Practice Framework. Learning Exchange is based on this Framework, which we call the 3E Framework focused on “Empower, Excel and Engage”. The platform can assist you across the academic lifecycle starting from lesson planning to assessments to evaluation and feedback, and reports and analytics.
Learning Exchange is with you at every step of your academic cycle. This handbook gives you a detailed step to step guide about how to keep your students engaged in multiple ways.
Student Engagement on Learning Exchange iON Learning Exchange offers you several avenues to keep your students interested, and engaged. You can offer them several challenging activities to the students so that they learn and enjoy as well.
With iON Learning Exchange you can-
Create communities of students for academic projects & interactions and/or for co-curricular activities

Post ideas so students can express their views
Post a question and get answers from the students

Create communities of students for academic projects & interactions and/or for co-curricular activities
Share important information or updates using blog or byte features
To create a Community: 1. Go to Left hand Panel >>Platform>>Manage>>Community.
2. Click+Create Community.
3. Specify the required information in the following fields. All fields marked as * are mandatory.
4. Click Submit.
Request will be sent to selected administrators to join the community as administrators. You can check the request in My Action>>Sent.The community will be listed in community listing at Left hand Panel >>Platform>>Manage>>Community.Community is created for collaboration and two community administrators are enrolled to the community.
Create Communities in Bulk
To create communities in bulk: 1. Go to Left hand Panel >>Platform>>Manage>>Community. 2. Click Create Communities in Bulk.
Field Description
*Community Name Name of the community to be created.
*Summary Brief description about the community
*Description Detailed description about the community
*Visibility Public Community will be visible to all Members of the Organisation. Private Community will be visible only to its Members and Administrators. Membership is by invitation only
Allow Users to Unassign Themselves
Select to display Unassign button to members on community homepage. They can un-enroll themselves from community using this button.
*Collaborative Enablers List
Select list of collaboration enablers.
*Administrators Select two administrators using Quick Add or Search and Add for managing the community.
Force Invite the administrators
Select to send forced invitations to administrators. Community will be activated immediately after creation if this checkbox is selected, else community will be activated after invitation is accepted by both the administrators.
3. Click Download Sample Template.
4. Specify the required information in the template for following fields and save the template.
Field Description
*Community Name Name of the community to be created.
*Summary Brief description about the community
*Description Detailed description about the community
Visibility Public Community will be visible to all Members of the Organisation.
Private Community will be visible only to its Members and Administrators. Membership is by invitation only
*Login ID of Admin-1 Administrator for the community
*Login ID of Admin-2 Administrator for the community

5. From LX screen, click Select File and select the updated template. 6. Click Submit.
Forced Invitation notification will be sent to selected administrators to join the community as administrators. You can check the request in My Action>>Sent. Create debates for health discussions
A debate is an argument on a topic. The proposition of the members for or against the topic can be posted in the debate and members can read the opinions of others. You do not need to take positions; you can post for and/or against in a debate.
How to post a Debate To post a Debate:
1. Go to MyCommunities/MyCourses>>ParticularCommunity/Course>>Post. 2. Click Debate.
3. Specify topic of debate in YOUR DEBATE PROPOSITION. 4. Select posts in Add link if any for reference. Click ADDLINK, all posts will be listed in a drop down. Select a
post and click on Click to add to the right of the post. To view the filtered posts select the type of posts from ALL POSTS dropdown.
5. Write about the debate topic in BACKGROUND OF YOUR PROPOSITION. 6. Select the topic for the post. To select the topic start typing in ADD TO TOPICS, if the topic is not in the
existing list ,then write the full name of the topic and click ADD in the dropdown. You can filter the post on timeline with this topic, using the filter for topics.
7. Specify FOR/AGAINST PROPOSITION for the debate topic. 8. Select date till when members can vote in debate in DEBATE OPEN TILL. 9. Select the people who will be able to view the post in SHAREWITH. 10. Click Debate to post.
The debate posted will be shown on community/ course page. You can vote for or against the topic and comment on the topic.
Post ideas so students can express their views
An idea can be posted that might interest others in the community or to record an idea for future reference by posting it as a private idea. The idea can be shared on the restricted or public access as per selection of sharelevel.
How to post an Idea To post an Idea:
1. Go to My Communities/My Courses>>Particular Community/Course>>Post. 2. Click Idea.
3. Specify topic of idea in WRITE YOUR IDEA. 4. Select posts in Add link if any for reference. Click ADDLINK, all posts will be listed in a dropdown. Select
the post and click on Click to add to the right of the post. To view the filtered posts select the type of posts from ALL POSTS drop down.
5. Provide a detailed description of idea in DESCRIBE YOUR IDEA! 6. Select the topic for the post. To select the topic start typing in ADD TO TOPICS, if the topic is not in the
existing list, then write the full name of the topic and click on ADD in the dropdown. The post can be filtered on the time line with this topic, using the filter for topics.
7. Select the people who will be able to view the post in SHARE WITH. 8. Click Ideate!
The idea posted will be shown on the community/course page.
Post a question and get answers from the students
Asking questions is a simple and effective way of learning. Questions help us to teach as well as to learn. Members of community or course can ask questions to gather information from other members. Members of the course/community can reply to the questions.
How to post a Question To post a Question:
1. Go to My Communities/My Courses>>Particular Community/Course>>Post. 2. Click Question.
3. Click Get From Global Repository to select a question to create its clone. 4. Specify question in WRITE YOUR QUESTION. 5. Select posts in Add link if any for reference. Click ADD LINK, all posts will be listed in a dropdown. Select
the post and click on Click to add to the right of the post. To view the filtered posts select the type of posts from ALL POSTS dropdown.

Build quizzes online around the subjects you teach or simply for fun

How to create a Quiz To create a Quiz:
1. Go to My Communities/ My Courses>> Particular Community/Course >>Post. 2. Click Quiz.
3. Click Get From Global Repository to select a quiz to create its clone. 4. Specify topic of quiz in QUIZ TITLE. 5. Specify detailed description about the quiz in BACKGROUND OF YOUR PROPOSITION! 6. Click Add Question and select one of the following question types from dropdown:
Single Choice Question: Questions with one option as the correct answer.
Multiple Choice Question: Questions having multiple options as correct answer.
True/False: Questions with only two options True and False. 7. Specify the question and options. Select the correct option for answer and click Save for each question. 8. Select the people who will be able to view the post in SHARE WITH. 9. Click Publish Quiz.
The quiz will be posted on the community/course page. You can Publish Answers for the quiz when all responses are collected.
Create polls on various topics (like should you have more HW? Should we have field trips more often?)
User polls is a single question survey where users can add their own options while responding. Userpoll provides public opinion of members about the question being surveyed. For example, if you want to survey about the favourite color of members, you can start with five options, Black, White, Red, Green and Blue. While responding if a user wants to add other colors such as Yellow, he can select the option of Add My Own Option and add Yellow as an option to Userpoll.
How to create a Userpoll To create a Userpoll:
1. Go to My Communities/My Courses>>Particular Community/Course>>Post. 2. Click Userpoll.
3. Click Get From Global Repository to select a user poll to create its clone. 4. Specify your question in WRITEY OUR QUESTION. 5. Provide a detailed description of question in BACK GROUND OF YOUR PROPOSITION (optional). 6. SelectthetopicofthepostinADDTOTOPICS.Ifthetopicdoesnotexist,type the topic and click ADD in the drop
down. Topics help in filtering the posts while searching. 7. Specify the options for the poll (Minimum two options and maximum ten options). Click Add to add more
options. 8. Select the people who will be able to view the post in SHAREWITH. 9. Click Start User poll.
The user poll will be shown on community/course page. Member can submit their responses to userpoll. They can create their own options while responding. You can publish the results of userpoll to display results to other members.
