Rubric Information
• The new state-approved rubric is one of the ways available as a tool to evaluate a candidate’s content knowledge prior to entering the classroom per Idaho Code:
ii. The hiring district shall ensure the candidate is qualified to teach in the area of identified need through demonstrated content knowledge. This may be accomplished through a combination of employment experience and education. (3-25-16)
iv. The participating college/university or other state board approved certification program shall provide procedures to assess and credit equivalent knowledge, dispositions and relevant life/work experiences; and (3-25-16)
v. Prior to entering the classroom, the candidate shall meet or exceed the state qualifying score on appropriate state-approved content, pedagogy, or performance assessment. (3-20-04)
• Questions about the NEW Uniform Standard for Evaluating Content Competence rubric; Contact the State Board of Education Educator Effectiveness Program Manager, Christina Linderat (208) 332-1593. Teacher Certification| 13
General Authorization Information
• The next deadline is Sept. 6 to submit material to the Professional Standards Commission for alternative and provisional authorizations.
• Forms have changed for the better –revised and streamlined many forms to reduce duplication and ease of use, and eliminated requirements to attach board minutes
• One year certificates will replace letters for Alternative Authorization and Provisional approvals. The certification department will send certificates (one to the candidate and one to the district) in lieu of letters for authorized Alternative Authorization and Provisional applications. The certificate will have a “Conditions” section with detailed information for the candidate and the district. The district and the candidate will receive a letter if the application is not approved, except in situations where the application was denied due to ethical or background check issues.
