Building a competitive workforce

“We’ve partnered with the Chamber’s Educators in the Workplace Institute for the past 10 years. As an employer of many young people, we feel we have a responsibility and obligation to provide employment that enhances education. We are committed to teaching transferable job skills and partnering with educators to produce quality, well trained employees for the future.” - Jennifer Muñoz, Courtesy Corporation McDonald’s

“To ensure our future success, Mayo Clinic is actively involved in workforce development. Through our partnership with Rochester Public Schools and RCTC, we have the Health Science Careers Center. Through efforts such as Hawthorne Center, we’ll have strong, passionate and diverse applicant pools.” Guy Finne, Mayo Clinic

“We want to make sure that people understand the importance of STEM in education because these are potential employees at Crenlo and other companies who need technically skilled people. Our STEM volunteers at Crenlo have a passion about their career, and year after year enjoy sharing the skills of their job with students in hopes that maybe some of those students might one day decide to pursue a STEM career, supporting employers’ future needs for those positions.”- Brett Carlson, Crenlo

“One of our biggest inhibitors to growth is the lack of skilled CNC machinists. We became active in the STEM Summit Program to give visibility to students about the CNC machining needs in our community, and to present an alternative to the traditional 4-year college tract. I’m a member of the CTECH advisory board, and we’ve also partnered with RCTC to begin offering a CNC machinist class curriculum commencing the fall of 2013. We believe we are laying the foundation for the skilled work force we greatly need in the very near future.” - Angela Bowman, Bowman Tool and Machining Inc.

"It is imperative as a community that we give back and invest in our people here through education. By actively being involved it sends the message to our businesses, our community and young people that we care and we want to make this a better place." - Tessa Leung, Sontes

How do Businesses Engage, and Why?

“Being part of the STEM Summit and participating in the Educators in the Workplace gives us the opportunity to be actively involved with preparing teachers and

students for future employment opportunities and helps them identify what skills and talents they need to succeed in the workplace.” - Rory Lenton, Minnesota Energy Resources
