From your pastor… There are several types of prayer which include peti-
tion, praise, and thanksgiving. The reality is that for most of
us our private prayer frequently focuses on petition. We ask
the Lord for protection, for help, for a solution to a problem,
for food, for work, for health etc. These prayers of petition
can often be made in a spirit of impatience. We want what we want, and we
would like it now.
One of the difficulties with constantly asking the Lord for things is that
we can overlook our many gifts and blessings. Much like a child, when we are
asking, we do not appreciate what we have. This is one of the reasons why a
day like Thanksgiving can be so important. This past week, we gathered with
family and friends to observe Thanksgiving and to focus attention on God and
his many blessings.
In the gospel, the Lord was disappointed that only one leper came back
to thank him for being healed. He wondered out loud what happened to the
other nine. Jesus praises the one leper and holds him up as a model for being
grateful for our gifts. The reality is that when a person shows gratitude, that
person is someone who is at peace, with a clear conscience, and with a deep
communion with the Lord.
Let us ask the Lord that we might be able to be thankful for what we
have and always express our gratitude to the Lord.
Sincerely,
Rev. Miguel González

Liturgical calendars for 2019 are ready to be picked up at the Narthex. You will also find them as an insert in this week’s bulle-tin. In this calendar you will find most of the activities and cele-brations we will have in our parish. Please take yours today.
CHRIST IS KING On the final Sunday of the liturgical year we celebrate the feast of Christ the King. It's easy to understand today's scriptures as events that happened long ago and far away, or predictions that will come true somewhere, some day. But they invite us to claim Christ as our King here and now. Jesus' words to Pilate in the Gospel remind us that his kingdom transcends time and place. And the prophecies from Daniel and Revelation give us reason to be faithful to Christ our King right here and right now. By concluding the year with this feast we are proclaiming our faith that Jesus Christ is the one and only King over all seasons, all peoples, and all of creation. No matter what nation we belong to or what language we speak, he "has made us into a kingdom" (Revelation 1:6)--one people united in love and peace for all eternity.
