CleanBraze™

Background

Hydro Aluminium has developed an inno-vative material concept in order to enable fluxfree processes: CleanBraze™ ! CleanBraze™ – material receives a spe-cial surface treatment. The development was driven by ecological aspects, sub-stantial technological progress as well as supplying the highest level of safety for our customers. Thus, the material pro-vides excellent brazing results given a suitable match in design, brazing parame-ters and low oxygen levels.

Concept

The objective was to establish a fluxfree brazing process. Using suitable material and appropriate techniques an efficient brazing process can be maintained while eliminating flux. To successfully braze in a fluxfree process, all parameters need to match. Here, the material is just as essen-tial as a corresponding design and a sta-ble atmosphere. At any given time, how-ever, it is possible to react to varying technical conditions – such as a tempo-rarily bad atmosphere – and switch to optional employment of flux.

Above and beyond, CleanBraze™ – mate-rial can readily be brazed in a vacuum furnace. This is possible without Mg con-taining filler metals. After receiving Hy-dro`s CleanBraze™ treatment even standard fillers can be vacuum brazed.

Advantages

No flux residues on brazed parts in-side & outside

No flux overspray – Health, Safety & Environment

Higher flexibility with regard to prod-uct design: Application of flux is not a limiting factor

Products brazed in vacuum due to necessary cleanliness can be switched to CAB

Enables fluxfree brazing in CAB fur-naces

Enables vacuum brazing without Mg deposits

 Compatible with existing fluxes

Material

CleanBraze™ process is independent of core material and temper

CleanBraze™ treatment on Hydro HA 4045-D filler clad

Standard production of the clad mate-rial – up to 2 clad layers per side

Standard material thickness: 0.2 mm – 3 mm

Knowledge Transfer

CleanBraze™ is in full scale production. Customer tests show excellent brazing results if all process parameters are con-sidered. Hydro is happy to offer technical support in using CleanBraze™ – material. Feel free to take our advice in designing appropriate tests and their conductance.
