TDA Research, Inc. (TDA) carries out chemical and engineering research, specializing in catalysis and advanced materials, and manufactures computer controlled testing equipment. Since its founding in 1987, it has grown from two people to a staff of 54. The staff is roughly divided between chemists and engineers, over half of whom hold advanced degrees.

TDA's objective is to carry out high quality contract research for its customers (primarily government agencies such as DOE, EPA, NASA, NSF, and DOD), and then to commercialize the results of its research. TDA carries out research in environmental and industrial catalysis, sorbents, separation processes, advanced materials (oxides and carbon based materials), and fuels technology for high speed aircraft. Using technology developed under its government funded contracts, TDA has begun building custom automated catalyst testing apparatus for its commercial customers, and is working with major companies to commercialize environmental catalysts, sulfur sorbents, and self-heating meals.

Since its founding in 1987 by engineers from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, it has grown from two people to a staff of over fifty. The staff is roughly divided between chemists and engineers, over half of whom hold advanced degrees.

TDA's objective is to carry out high quality contract research for its customers (primarily government agencies such as DOE, EPA, NASA, NSF, and DOD), and then to commercialize the results of its research. Commercialization is carried out by TDA in cases where the new business does not require large capital investments, or if appropriate, by licensing the technology to large firms that already have the manufacturing, marketing and customer contacts in place. As a result of the expertise and technology developed under its government funded contracts, TDA has begun building custom automated catalyst testing apparatus, and is working with major companies to commercialize environmental catalysts, sulfur sorbents, and self heating meals. The following sections describe TDA's current research projects and the catalyst testing apparatus produced by the Automated Systems Division.
