WARNINGTurn off the unit if an abnormality or malfunction occursImmediatelyturntheunitoff,removetheACadaptorfromtheoutlet,andrequestservicingbyyourretailer,thenearestRolandServiceCenter,oranauthorizedRolanddistributor,aslistedonthe“Information”pagewhen:
• TheACadaptor,thepower-supplycord,ortheplughasbeendamaged;or
• Ifsmokeorunusualodoroccurs;or• Objectshavefalleninto,orliquid
hasbeenspilledontotheunit;or• Theunithasbeenexposedtorain
(orotherwisehasbecomewet);or• Theunitdoesnotappearto
operatenormallyorexhibitsamarkedchangeinperformance.

Do not use a CD-ROM in an audio CD player or DVD playerDONOTplayaCD-ROMdisconaconventionalaudioCDplayer.Theresultingsoundmaybeofalevelthatcouldcausepermanenthearingloss.Damagetospeakersorothersystemcomponentsmayresult.
CAUTIONPlace in a well ventilated locationTheunitandtheACadaptorshouldbelocatedsotheirlocationorpositiondoesnotinterferewiththeirproperventilation.
Use only the specified stand (s)Thisunitisdesignedtobeusedincombinationwithspecificstands(MDSseries)manufacturedbyRoland.Ifusedincombinationwithotherstands,yourisksustaininginjuriesastheresultofthisproductdroppingdownortopplingoverduetoalackofstability.
Evaluate safety issues before using standsEvenifyouobservethecautionsgivenintheowner’smanual,certaintypesofhandlingmayallowthisproducttofallfromthestand,orcausethestandtooverturn.Pleasebemindfulofanysafetyissuesbeforeusingthisproduct.
Grasp the plug when connecting or disconnecting the AC adaptorAlwaysgrasponlytheplugontheACadaptorcordwhenplugginginto,orunpluggingfrom,anoutletorthisunit.
Periodically clean the AC adaptor’s plugAtregularintervals,youshouldunplugtheACadaptorandcleanitbyusingadryclothtowipealldustandotheraccumulationsawayfromitsprongs.Also,disconnectthepowerplugfromthepoweroutletwhenevertheunitistoremainunusedforanextendedperiodoftime.Anyaccumulationofdustbetweenthepowerplugandthepoweroutletcanresultinpoorinsulationandleadtofire.
Manage cables for safetyTrytopreventcordsandcablesfrombecomingentangled.Also,allcordsandcablesshouldbeplacedsotheyareoutofthereachofchildren.
Avoid climbing on top of the unit, or placing heavy objects on itNeverclimbontopof,norplaceheavyobjectsontheunit.
CAUTIONDo not connect or disconnect the AC adaptor with wet handsNeverhandletheACadaptororitsplugswithwethandswhenplugginginto,orunpluggingfrom,anoutletorthisunit.
Disconnect everything before moving the unitBeforemovingtheunit,disconnecttheACadaptorandallcordscomingfromexternaldevices.
Unplug the AC adaptor from the outlet before cleaningBeforecleaningtheunit,turnitoffandunplugtheACadaptorfromtheoutlet(p.10).
If there is a possibility of lightning strike, disconnect the AC adaptor from the outletWheneveryoususpectthepossibilityoflightninginyourarea,disconnecttheACadaptorfromtheoutlet.

IMPORTANTNOTESPower Supply• Donotconnectthisunittosameelectricaloutlet
thatisbeingusedbyanelectricalappliancethatiscontrolledbyaninverteroramotor(suchasarefrigerator,washingmachine,microwaveoven,orairconditioner).Dependingonthewayinwhichtheelectricalapplianceisused,powersupplynoisemaycausethisunittomalfunctionormayproduceaudiblenoise.Ifitisnotpracticaltouseaseparateelectricaloutlet,connectapowersupplynoisefilterbetweenthisunitandtheelectricaloutlet.
• TheACadaptorwillbegintogenerateheatafterlonghoursofconsecutiveuse.Thisisnormal,andisnotacauseforconcern.
• Topreventmalfunctionandequipmentfailure,alwaysmakesuretoturnoffthepoweronallyourequipmentbeforeyoumakeanyconnections.
• Withthefactorysettings,thisunitwillautomaticallybeswitchedoff30minutesafteryoustopplayingoroperatingtheunit.Ifyoudon’twanttheunittoturnoffautomatically,changethe“AutoOff”settingto“OFF”asdescribedonp.35.
Placement• Usingtheunitnearpoweramplifiers(orother
equipmentcontaininglargepowertransformers)mayinducehum.Toalleviatetheproblem,changetheorientationofthisunit;ormoveitfartherawayfromthesourceofinterference.
• Thisdevicemayinterferewithradioandtelevisionreception.Donotusethisdeviceinthevicinityofsuchreceivers.
• Noisemaybeproducedifwirelesscommunicationsdevices,suchascellphones,areoperatedinthevicinityofthisunit.Suchnoisecouldoccurwhenreceivingorinitiatingacall,orwhileconversing.Shouldyouexperiencesuchproblems,youshouldrelocatesuchwirelessdevicessotheyareatagreaterdistancefromthisunit,orswitchthemoff.
• Donotexposetheunittodirectsunlight,placeitneardevicesthatradiateheat,leaveitinsideanenclosedvehicle,orotherwisesubjectittotemperatureextremes.Excessiveheatcandeformordiscolortheunit.
• Whenmovedfromonelocationtoanotherwherethetemperatureand/orhumidityisverydifferent,waterdroplets(condensation)mayforminsidetheunit.Damageormalfunctionmayresultifyouattempttousetheunitinthiscondition.Therefore,beforeusingtheunit,youmustallowittostandforseveralhours,untilthecondensationhascompletelyevaporated.
• Donotputanythingthatcontainswateronthisunit.Also,avoidtheuseofinsecticides,perfumes,alcohol,nailpolish,spraycans,etc.,neartheunit.Swiftlywipeawayanyliquidthatspillsontheunitusingadry,softcloth.
Maintenance• Foreverydaycleaningwipetheunitwithasoft,
dryclothoronethathasbeenslightlydampenedwithwater.Toremovestubborndirt,useaclothimpregnatedwithamild,non-abrasivedetergent.Afterwards,besuretowipetheunitthoroughlywithasoft,drycloth.
• Neverusebenzine,thinners,alcoholorsolventsofanykind,toavoidthepossibilityofdiscolorationand/ordeformation.
Repairs and Data• Pleasebeawarethatalldatacontainedinthe
unit’smemorymaybelostwhentheunitissentforrepairs.ImportantdatashouldalwaysbebackeduptoUSBflashdrives,orwrittendownonpaper(whenpossible).Duringrepairs,duecareistakentoavoidthelossofdata.However,incertaincases(suchaswhencircuitryrelatedtomemoryitselfisoutoforder),weregretthatitmaynotbepossibletorestorethedata,andRolandassumesnoliabilityconcerningsuchlossofdata.
Additional Precautions• Pleasebeawarethatthecontentsofmemorycan
beirretrievablylostasaresultofamalfunction,ortheimproperoperationoftheunit.Toprotectyourselfagainsttheriskofloosingimportantdata,werecommendthatyouperiodicallysaveabackupcopyofimportantdatayouhavestoredintheunit’smemorytoUSBflashdrives.
• Unfortunately,itmaybeimpossibletorestorethecontentsofdatathatwasstoredintheunit’smemoryoronUSBflashdrivesonceithasbeenlost.RolandCorporationassumesnoliabilityconcerningsuchlossofdata.
• Useareasonableamountofcarewhenusingtheunit’sbuttons,sliders,orothercontrols;andwhenusingitsjacksandconnectors.Roughhandlingcanleadtomalfunctions.
• Neverstrikeorapplystrongpressuretothedisplay.
• Whendisconnectingallcables,grasptheconnectoritself—neverpullonthecable.Thiswayyouwillavoidcausingshorts,ordamagetothecable’sinternalelements.
• Toavoiddisturbingothersnearby,trytokeeptheunit’svolumeatreasonablelevels.Youmayprefertouseheadphones,soyoudonotneedtobeconcernedaboutthosearoundyou.
• Sincesoundvibrationscanbetransmittedthroughfloorsandwallstoagreaterdegreethanexpected,takecarenottoallowsuchsoundtobecomeanuisancetoothersnearby.Althoughthedrumpadsandpedalsaredesignedsothereisaminimalamountofextraneoussoundproducedwhenthey’restruck,rubberheadstendtoproduceloudersoundscomparedtomeshheads.Youcaneffectivelyreducemuchoftheunwantedsoundfromthepadsbyswitchingtomeshheads.
• Whenyouneedtotransporttheunit,packageitinthebox(includingpadding)thatitcamein,ifpossible.Otherwise,youwillneedtouseequivalentpackagingmaterials.
• Someconnectioncablescontainresistors.Donotusecablesthatincorporateresistorsforconnectingtothisunit.Theuseofsuchcablescancausethesoundleveltobeextremelylow,orimpossibletohear.Forinformationoncablespecifications,contactthemanufacturerofthecable.
• Theexplanationsinthismanualincludeillustrationsthatdepictwhatshouldtypicallybeshownbythedisplay.Note,however,thatyourunitmayincorporateanewer,enhancedversionofthesystem(e.g.,includesnewersounds),sowhatyouactuallyseeinthedisplaymaynotalwaysmatchwhatappearsinthemanual.
Before Using External Memories• CarefullyinserttheUSBflashdrivesalltheway

1. Turn the [VOLUME] knob all the way to the left to minimize the volume .
Ifyou’reusingheadphones,youshouldalsominimizethe[VOLUME]knoblocatedonthesidepanel.
2. Minimize the volume of the connected amp or audio system .
3. Press the [POWER] button .

2. Set up the hi-hat, take your foot off the pedal, and power-on the TD .

3. Loosen the clutch screw, and allow the hi-hat to rest naturally on top of the motion sensor unit .
