Using your TV in a hotel or dorm room

Hotels,schooldorms,conferencefacilities,andsimilarlocationswithpublicwirelessInternetaccessoftenrequireyoutointeractwithawebpagetoauthenticateyouraccess.Theserestrictedpublicnetworksarecommonlyknownascaptiveportalnetworks.Whenyouselectanetworkofthistype,theTVautomaticallydetectsthatadditionalinformationisneededandpromptsyouthroughusinganotherwirelessdevicetosupplytherequestedinformation.

Tips:

• UsingyourRokuTVonahotelordormroomnetworkrequireswirelessavailabilityanduseofyournetwork-connectedsmartphone,tablet,orcomputertoauthenticateaccesstoyouraccount.

Adjusting TCL• Roku TV settings

• Closedcaptioning–Controlswhenyouseecaptions.ThissettingisonlyofferedforAntennaTV,theAVinput,andstreamingvideos.Anysetvalueremainsineffectacrossonlytheseinputs.

o AntennaTV–Turncaptionsonoroff,orsetthemtoappearonlywhentheTVsoundismuted.

WheneveryouaddaTVinputtile,it’saddedatthetopofyourHomescreen.WheneveryouaddanewstreamingchannelfromtheRokuChannelStore,it’saddedatthebottomofyourHomescreen.

YoucaneasilyrearrangetheorderofthetilesontheHomescreentosuityourviewingpreferences.Forexample,youmightwantAntennaTVtobethefirsttileinyourHomescreen.Butifyoumostlywatchonestreamingchannel,youmightwantitstiletobethefirstoneonyourHomescreen.

Scanning for broadcast TV channels again

Therewillbetimeswhenyouneedtocreateanewchannellist.Forexample,you:

• Changecableproviders• ReorientyourTVantenna• Movetoadifferentcitywithdifferentchannels

WheneveryouneedtoupdateyourTVchannellist,youcanrepeatthechannelscan.

Tip:Repeatthechannelscanfromtimetotimetomakesureyouarereceivingallofthelatestchannels.Broadcastersaddandremovechannels,movechannelstodifferentpartsofthespectrum,andchangethepowerlevelsoftheirchannelsperiodically.

Torepeatthechannelscan,fromtheHomescreenmenu,navigatetoSettings>TVinputs>AntennaTV>Scanagainforchannels.ThenselectStartfindingchannelstobeginthechannelscanprocess.Thescreensandoptionsthatappearduringthisprocessareidenticaltothosedescribedin“HowdoIsetuptheTVtuner?”onpage24.

Setting the HDMI mode

YoucanindependentlyconfigureeachHDMIinputtomatchthecapabilitiesoftheconnecteddevice.FromtheHomescreenmenu,navigatetoSettings>TVinputs,andthenselectanenabledHDMIinput.Next,selectHDMImodeandthenselectoneofthefollowingsettings:

• Auto–LettheTVdeterminethebestsetting.UsethisoptionunlessyourHDMIdevicedoesnotcorrectlycommunicateitsHDMIversioncompatibility.

• HDMI1.4–ConfiguretheinputforcompatibilitywithHDMIversion1.4,whichsupportsamaximumrefreshrateof30HzatfullUHDresolution.MostHDMIdeviceswillworkcorrectlywiththeTVinthismode.

• HDMI2.0–ConfiguretheinputforcompatibilitywithHDMIversion2.0,whichsupportsamaximumrefreshrateof60HzatfullUHDresolution.ManyolderHDMIdeviceswillnotworkcorrectlyiftheTV’sHDMIinputisconfiguredforthismode.

Using the TV in a home theater

YourTVhasseveralfeaturesthatmakeitanidealTVforahometheater.Butyoumightnotnoticethembecausetheyremaininthebackgrounduntilyoudecidetousethem.

Turning off the speakers

WhenyouuseyourTVwithasoundbaroranexternalamplifierandspeakers,you’llprobablywanttoturnofftheinternalTVspeakers.

ToturnofftheTV’sbuilt-inspeakers,intheHomescreenmenu,navigatetoSettings>Audio>TVspeakersandchangethesetting.

Tip:TheTV’sinternalspeakerscanbeenabledanddisabledautomaticallyasneededbysystemaudiocontrol,asdescribedin“Enablingsystemaudiocontrol”onpage69.Theinternalspeakersarealsoturnedoffwhenyouusetheheadphonejack.

Changing the audio mode

Controlling other devices through CEC

ConsumerElectronicsControl(CEC)enablesyourTVandotherCEC-compatiblehomeentertainmentcomponentstocontroloneanotherinvariousways.First,theCEC-compatibledevicesmust“discover”oneanotherandreporttheircapabilities.Afterthis,onedevicecancontrolanotheraccordingtothefeaturesyouenable.Forexample,playingadisconaBlu-rayplayercouldswitchtheTVtotheBlu-rayplayer’sinput.Or,poweringofftheTVcouldalsopowerofftheBlu-rayplayerandthehometheaterreceiver.

Discovering connected CEC devices

TodiscoverCECdevices:

1. MakesurethatyourCEC-compatiblecomponentsareconnectedtotheTVwithasuitablehigh-speedHDMI®cablethatsupportsHDMI®ARCandCECcontrol.

2. TurnoneachcomponentandmakesureallcomponentsareCECenabled.

Tip:SomemanufacturershavetheirownbrandednamesforCECfunctionality,soyoumightneedtoreadtheproductdocumentationtocorrectlyidentifytheCECfeaturesofthedevice.

3. OntheTV’sHomescreenmenu,navigatetoSettings>System>Controlotherdevices(CEC)andthenselectSearchforCECdevices.PressOKtorepeatthediscoveryprocess,ifnecessary.

HDMI®ARCistheaudioreturnchannelthatisavailableononeoftheTV’sHDMI®ports.TheaudioreturnchannelenablesyoutosendaDolbyDigitalaudiosignalbacktoahometheaterreceiverthatisalsosendinganaudioandvideosignalintotheTV.UsingHDMI®ARCreducesthenumberofcablesneededandoptionallyletsyoucontrolthevolumeandmutestateofthereceiverbyenablingsystemaudiocontrol.

HDMI®ARCisdisabledbydefault.ToenableHDMI®ARC,intheHomescreenmenu,navigatetoSettings>System>Controlotherdevices(CEC),andthenhighlightHDMIARC.PressOKtoenableordisablethefeature.

Enabling system audio control

SystemaudiocontrolenablestheTVremotecontroltochangethevolumeandmutestateofanamplifierorsoundbarconnectedthroughHDMI®,andtodisplaytheexternaldevice’svolumeandmutestatusintheTV’son-screendisplay.

TheTVautomaticallyturnsoffitsinternalspeakersandsendsvolumeandmutecontrolsignalstoanexternalamplifierwhenallofthefollowingaretrue:

• SystemaudiocontrolisenabledontheTV.• TheTVisconnectedtoaCEC-compatibleamplifier,itispoweredon,andCECdiscoverabilityis

Restarting the TV

YoucanrestarttheTVwhennecessary.RestartinghasthesameeffectasunpluggingtheTVpowerandthenpluggingitinagain.

TorestarttheTV,navigatetoSettings>System>Power,andthenselectSystemrestart.HighlightRestart,andthenpressOKtoconfirmrestart.

WhiletheTVrestarts,thescreengoesdarkforafewseconds,andthendisplaysthestartupscreenforafewmoreseconds.Whentherestartoperationcompletes,theTVdisplaystheactivityyouselectedin“Poweronsettings”onpage54.

Resetting the TV

YoucanchoosetoresetonlytheTVpictureandaudiosettingstotheiroriginalvalues,orperformafullfactoryresettoreturntheTVtothestateitwasinwhenyoufirstunpackedandturnediton.

Reset audio/video settings

Factory reset everything

AfullfactoryresetreturnstheTVtoitsoriginal,out-of-the-boxstate.Whenfinished,youmustrepeatGuidedSetup,reconnectingtotheInternet,re-linkingyourRokuaccount,andreloadinganystreamingchannels.YoualsomustrepeatAntennaTVsetupandinputconfiguration.

FactoryresetistherecommendedchoiceifyouwanttotransfertheTVtoanotherowner,anditistheonlychoiceifyouwanttoswitchfromstoremodetohomemode(ifyouinadvertentlyselectedstoremodeduringGuidedSetup).

Toperformafactoryreset,navigatetoSettings>System>Advancedsystemsettings>Factoryreset,andthenhighlightFactoryreseteverything.Readtheinformationonthescreentomakesureyouunderstandwhatthisresetoperationdoes.

Toproceedwiththefullfactoryreset,usetheon-screennumberpadtoenterthecodedisplayedonthescreen,andthenselectOKtoproceed.

Whenthefactoryresetoperationcompletes,theTVrestartsanddisplaysthefirstGuidedSetupscreen.

What if I can’t access the Factory Reset option?

ItispossiblethatyourTVmightgetintoastatewhereyoucannotaccessthevariousmenus,includingthemenuoptionthatletsyouperformafactoryresetoperation.Ifthathappens,youcanforcetheTVtoresetbyfollowingthesesteps:

1. Usingastraightenedpapercliporball-pointpen,pressandholdtherecessedRESETbuttonontheTVconnectorpanel.

2. ContinuetoholdtheRESETbuttonforapproximately12seconds.

Duringthistime,thestatuslightturnsoff,andthenturnsonbright,andthenpulses.Whentheresetcyclecompletes,thelighteithercomesondim(iftheTVpowerwasoffwhenyoustarted)ortheTVscreencomesonandthelightturnsoff(iftheTVpowerwasonwhenyoustarted).

B. Inallothercases,includingifyouarearesidentoftheUnitedStates(anditspossessionsandterritories)orCanada,youagreethatthisEULAshallbegovernedbythelawsoftheStateofCaliforniawithoutregardtoanyconflictoflawsprinciplesthatmayprovidetheapplicationofthelawofanotherjurisdiction;and:

InformationonAAAandhowarbitrationisinitiatedcanbefoundatwww.adr.orgorbycalling800-778-7879.ForClaimsbetweenYouandRokuof$75,000orless,youwillberesponsiblefortheinitialarbitrationfilingfee,uptotheamountoftheinitialfilingfeeifyouweretoinitiatealawsuitagainstRokubasedonsuchClaimsincourt.IfthearbitratorfindssuchClaimstobenon-frivolous,Rokuwillpayanydifferenceinsuchfilingfeesplusthearbitratorfees.ForClaimsbetweenYouandRokuinexcessof$75,000,ifyouareabletodemonstratethatthecostsofarbitrationwillbeprohibitiveascomparedtothecostsoflitigation,Rokuwillpayasmuchofyouractualfilingfeesandthearbitratorfeesforthearbitrationasthearbitratordeemsnecessarytopreventthearbitrationfrombeingcost-prohibitiveascomparedtothecostoflitigation.

4. ThisagreementtoarbitratedoesnotapplytoanyClaim(a)inwhichapartyisattemptingtoprotectitsintellectualpropertyrights(suchasitspatent,copyright,trademark,tradesecret,ormoralrights,butnotincludingitsprivacyorpublicityrights),or(b)thatmaybebroughtinsmall-claimscourt.

Iftheagreementtoarbitrateinthisprovisionisfoundtobeinvalid,unenforceableorinapplicabletoagivenClaimbetweenYouandRoku,thenanyandallproceedingstoresolvesuchClaimmustbebroughtexclusivelyinafederalcourtofcompetentjurisdictionintheNorthernDistrictofCaliforniaorinastatecourtinSantaClaraCounty,California.Youherebyirrevocablyconsenttotheexclusivejurisdictionandvenueofsuchcourts.

6. 30-DayRighttoOptOut:Youhavetherighttooptoutofthisagreementtoarbitratebysendingawrittennoticeofyourdecisiontooptouttothefollowingaddress:LegalDepartment,Roku,Inc.,12980SaratogaAvenue,Saratoga,California95070,USA;providedthat,suchnoticemustbepostmarkedonorbeforethe30thdayafterthefirsttooccurofthefollowingeventsifyoudonotalreadyhaveaRokuAccount:(a)thedateofpurchaseofYourTelevision,or(b)thedateyoucreateyourRokuAccount.IfyouhaveanexistingRokuAccount,alldevicesyouchoosetolinktoyourRokuAccount,andallservicesprovidedbyRokuwhichareaccessedusingthesedevices,willbesubjecttothisagreementtoarbitrate.Yournoticeshouldincludeyourfullname,yourcurrentpostaladdress,telephonenumberandemailaddress,theproductnameandserialnumberforYourTelevision,andacopyoftheoriginalproofofpurchaseforyourTelevision.Ifyoutimelysendanoticeincompliancewiththisparagraph6,theagreementtoarbitratewillnotapplytoeitheryouorRoku.Ifyoudonottimelysendthisnotice,thenyouagreetobeboundbythisagreementtoarbitrate.

7. NotwithstandinganyprovisioninthisAgreementtothecontrary,youagreethat,ifRokuseekstodeleteormateriallymodifytheagreementtoarbitratedescribedherein,anysuchdeletionormodificationwillnotapplytoanyindividualClaimofwhichyouhavenotifiedRokupriortosuchmodification.

Miscellaneous RokumaytransferitsrightsandobligationsunderthisEULAtoanotherorganization.YoumayonlytransferyourrightsoryourobligationsunderthisEULAtoanotherpersonifRokuagreesinwriting.ThisEULAisbetweenyouandRoku.Nootherpersonshallhaveanyrightstoenforcetheseterms.EachoftheparagraphsofthisEULAoperatesseparately.Ifanycourtorrelevantauthoritydecidesthatanyofthemareunlawful,theremainingparagraphswillremaininfullforceandeffect.IfRokufailstoinsistthatyouperformanyofyourobligationsunderthisEULA,orifRokudoesnotenforceitsrightsagainstyou,orifRokudelaysindoingso,thatwillnotmeanthatRokuhaswaiveditsrightsagainstyou,orthatyoudonothavetocomplywiththoseobligations.IfRokudoeswaiveadefaultbyyou,Rokuwillonlydosoinwriting,butthatwillnotmeanthatRokuwillautomaticallywaiveanylaterdefaultbyyou.
