Mission Statement

Honour, friendship, loyalty, fair play, and respect.

Most important is to have FUN!

Code of Ethics

No Cheating, Glitching or Exploiting.

This refers to any type of software, or 3rd party program

that alters the game in a way in which the developers

did not intend it to be played. This also includes any

form of cheat or hack that gives the player an

advantage which other players cannot legally or fairly

obtain, and or a hack or cheat that puts other players at

a disadvantage.

Never make public accusations of cheating, neither against fellow TAW members nor

against anyone else. Should you suspect someone of behaviour that violates the

TAW Code of Ethics concerning cheating, produce evidence to support your claim

(such as screenshots) and relay this to your chain of command privately. They will

take all necessary steps from there on.

No Moonlighting

Members of TAW are not permitted to be in any other

team or gaming clan in Brink. This rule also extends to

all games that are supported by TAW. For example: if

you are a member of the TAW Brink Division then you

cannot be a member of another organisation that

supports Call of Duty as TAW supports this game too.

You are, however, free to be part of the TAW

community in any games that TAW supports.

No Formal Alliances

TAW does not maintain formal alliances with other clans, teams, or organisations.

This is to protect our integrity and keep ourselves out of other organisation‟s affairs.

We do, however, encourage contact with other organisations on a friendly basis.

Events

Battle for the Ark

TAW internal tournament

Organised team play

Participation is mandatory for all

members.

Separate tournaments for all bat-

talions, floating or subbing for other

battalions is always possible.

Fun is paramount.

Training Seminars

Training seminars are offered by both NA and EU

Battalions.

NA Battalion: Sundays/Tuesdays @ 2100 EST

EU Battalion: Sundays/Wednesdays @ 2100 CET

The training seminars are organised by the Training

Specialist and held by Training Instructors or the

Training Specialist in person. The seminars allow you to acquire new skills from

experienced players who specialise in training new members. Therefore, if you

attend them regularly you should see your overall game play improve.

Scrims

External scrims against other teams can be organised by staff or ad hoc by

members.

Keep in mind that you represent The Art of Warfare in external events. Good conduct

and sportsmanlike behaviour are expected of you in all phases of playing and

regardless of the outcome of the battle.

Victory through Teamwork, Knowledge, and Skill

Participation

There are two mandatory events per week which you must attend.

You need to be in the Battalion‟s Headquarters channel on time as this is when the

attendance for the night will be checked.

If you cannot attend an event or arrive late then you need to send in an excusal. If

you fail to attend an event and you do not send an excusal you will be marked down

as AWOL (absent without official leave). After three AWOLs you will be discharged

from TAW under a normal discharge.

You will receive external participation credit for attending external events such as

training seminars.

TAW & Real Life

TAW respects the real lives of all its members.

We appreciate the dedication and commitment of our members.

Members can send in excusals for short term absences but must request 30 day

leave if they are going to be absent for a prolonged amount of time. Additional 30

days of leave can be granted by the Division Staff in special cases.

In the worst cases, to avoid a normal discharge through absence, members can

request honourable discharge. The status of honourably discharged members will be

fully restored when they reapply at a later point.

Conduct & Behaviour

TAW members treat other and non TAW members

with respect, regardless of their rank or position.

Wearing the TAW tag makes every member a

representative of our gaming community. Con-

sequently, every member of TAW is held to a high

standard of conduct and behaviour. Good behaviour

will not go unrecognised while serious breaches of conduct or our Code of Ethics will

result in dishonourable discharge from TAW.

We do not tolerate inappropriate or abusive language of any kind in our Teamspeak

server, on any forums or any servers. Swearing or insulting others are a no go.

While we encourage all members to recruit, out of common respect we do not recruit

on other servers other than our own.

TAW members are expected to be respectful to all event leaders and follow their

instructions. After all these leaders invested time in trying to help and TAW, therefore

out of respect do as they say and observe weapons red.

Weapons Red

Do not fire any weapons or use any equipment. Do not deploy turrets or mines.

Do not leave your spawn unless instructed by staff or the event leader.

Be silent unless instructed otherwise. In training events you should always pay

attention to the person who is instructing. Sometimes you will be asked to perform

actions for training purposes, which you should, but you should always cease fire

when asked to by the event leader.

For more information on participation and the TAW Code of Ethics check:

http://taw.net/taw/codeofethics.aspx.

Organisation

We are all equals in TAW. You do not need to

call anyone sir or address them with their

ranks.

The military ranks in TAW show the

responsibilities of members and usually go

along with certain functions.

After four attended events, every recruit (REC)

becomes a private first class (PFC) and

therefore a full member of TAW. Once a recruit

becomes a full member, they will have full

access to the black pages and TAW forums.

Recruits are probationary members and

cannot ask for leave.

We encourage members to step up to higher

positions and to accept greater responsibilities

within TAW.

Promotions are awarded for good attendance.

Ranks higher than sergeant can only be

attained by accepting a function.

Ranks & Chain of Command

Each Rank has a corresponding symbol and

an abbreviation to represent it. When

connected to Teamspeak you will be able to

see each players rank to the right of their

name.

A division (unit in TAW of all players that play

one game) is lead by a Division Commander

(DC) and his second in command, a Division

Officer (DO). These two officers hold the ranks

of lieutenant colonel or higher and supervise

the division.

Below the Division Staff is the Battalion Staff

who run the battalion (regional unit) and fall

into the category of Officer Ranks; it is lead by

the Commanding Officer (CO) who is in charge of the battalion. His second in

command is the Executive Officer (XO) who manages attendance during mandatory

events. The third in command is the Staff Officer (SO) who manages recruitment and

in-processing, including the Drill Instructor (DI) personnel.

The Battalion Field-NCOs (non-commissioned officers) are also part of Battalion

Staff. They include the Server Administrator (SA) who administrates the TAW

servers, The Field Specialist (FS) who organises and runs BFA, and finally the

Training Specialist (TS) who runs all training and supervises all Training Instructor

(TI) personnel.

Drill Instructors are responsible for boot camps of new members. Keep in mind

though, that recruitment is everyone‟s job! Training Instructors are responsible for the

training of all members who are willing to learn.

The Platoon Leader (PL) is the highest ranking field leader position and usually in

charge of one of the platoons in BFA. He is assisted by his Squad Leader (SL) who

acts as his second in command. Further, Fire Team Leaders (FL) lead fire teams, the

smallest units that constitute a platoon. Remember that one man is no man and that

teamwork is the way to victory.

When referring to „contacting your CoC‟, members talk about addressing the person

in the function directly superior to yours. For a Recruit that is any Drill Instructor, and

for a regular member that is the Platoon Leader. They can help you with most things,

or relay you to someone who can.

For all positions in TAW check http://taw.net/taw/positions.aspx.

For a list of all ranks in TAW check http://taw.net/taw/ranks.aspx.

For the full policy of TAW check http://taw.net/taw/policy.aspx.

Medals & Badges

Medals are awarded for special achievements or extraordinary service

rendered to TAW on or off the battle field.

Badges are awarded for passing proficiency tests in in-game skills.

For a full list of medals and badges check

http://taw.net/taw/awards.aspx.

Note that not all badges are applicable to Brink or might not be available for testing

because the corresponding tests are still in development or not yet approved.

TAW E-Mail

Every member of TAW receives an e-mail address. E-mails sent to

callsign[at]theartofwarfare.net will be directed to the e-mail account the person

signed up to the TAW website with.

Although you can contact any member in TAW using the TAW e-mail address, you

still use your own email address to send the email. Therefore make sure to sign your

emails with your call sign e.g. Jamieson.

Forums

TAW provides its members with a number of public and private discussion forums

which all members are encouraged to use. If you have suggestions, have found

something exciting in the game, or would like to comment on an existing thread, then

please do so!

Keep in mind, however, that the boards are no place for arguments and that

complaints and criticism should be presented in a respectful manner.

Server Funding

Membership in TAW is free. However, we always appreciate donations to support

funding for our servers.

The donations page can be found here: http://taw.net/taw/donations.aspx.

After a minute or so you should then see the recruit symbol appear next to your

name in Teamspeak, Welcome to TAW!

Most people in TAW have the blue Teamspeak light. These are ordinary

members. However, staff members will usually use the orange Teamspeak light

when they are holding private meetings. Therefore, you should never enter a channel

in which there are members with an orange light on.

It is best to private message the person and to ask permission to enter. However,

you see all the staff members with orange lights in the command post then should

not enter under any circumstances.

If you would like to connect directly to a specific channel, then you can set up

Teamspeak to send you there directly after connecting to the server. To do this

switch to the channel you would like to connect to directly, go to Bookmarks >

Manage Bookmarks, then select your TAW TS3 Server bookmark, click on More in

the lower left corner of the window, click on Make Current Default, and then click

Apply. Optionally, you can also check the box on the lower right that says Connect on

Start Up which will immediately connect you to the TAW TS3 Server when you

launch TS3.
