TASK 6: Design of one location------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TASK 6 (Design of one location) Presentation date TBC

This is the last task where all your previous research will be manifested as a design intervention. Based on:

TASK 4: (Inter-Building Communication)- Identification of research question (each student team has to come up with a specific question, that relates to Inter-Building Communication).- Start visualising the Inter-Building Communication with diagrams.

TASK 5: (Location and parameters)- Establishing 3 6 locations in a precinct that would communicate with each other.- Define parameters of their interaction (what sensor, camera, audio/visual)- Visualising the constraints for one chosen site through diagrams and sketches.

Completed previous the final task will ask for the design at one chosen location. The design should reflect and be suitable for an Inter-Building-Communication (IBC) as designedin TASK 4 and full fill the requirements of TASK 5 where parameters of interaction define the design of the Polymedia Pixel (PMP) surface. Giving an example: If it is essential

for your IBC to observe via a camera a plaza in front of your building and later want to display this information on the screen, the surface and therefore the script should optimizethe surface so the center point of the surface could hold a camera that points towards the plaza. Further the center of the plaza should allow the viewer to read and understandthe content on a potentially complex curved surface.

    TASKS:

1.) Scripting: Script in Python or Grasshopper (to be confirmed) one parameter that is the essential one for your design idea. (as specified TASK 5 / part of main script). You willreceive a script that allows to transform any given surface into a PMP surface. This script will function as the mother script and your own script as a potential plug-in for this script. The studio aims to have as a result a number of scripts usable for other designers.

2.) Documentation: In order to illustrate the design intervention each student has to hand in:- Urban plan of location in 1:200 showing context and main areas of interaction.- Elevation of PMP surface (minimum two, depending on location)- Perspective or rendering (minimum four)- Short Video clip; this include a narrative of TASK 4, 5 and 6 with an animation of IBC, location and parameters and Design of site with fly through.- Physical model (scale TBC) mass model of surrounding buildings and PMP as 3D model made out of laser sintered plastic.

All presentation material should be presented as digital presentation, where in one keynote presentation all plans, elevations and video are shown. One graphicdesigned A1 Poster in colour should function as a visual documentation used for the end of year show.

    Final Presentation

FINAL PRESENTATION will include all TASKS (TASK 1 6) in one presentation to a panel with UTS and SydUni staff + I will invite all the previous lecturers. Thus it is a big dayevent that asks for big day presentation results. Each presenter has 15 min presentation and 10 min feedback time. This has some implications on how much one can showthus we will split the presentation into three fields:

    1. Power point / keynote / pdf presentation up to 10 slides (1 slide is equal to one minute presentation)2. A1 panel with all key images and diagrams from Task 5 and 6 (This panel will be used at the end of year exhibition)3. A5 pamphlet in colour in book layout format with all Six tasks.

This is quite a lot of information you have to present and explain thus be smart about your presentation format!! Remember, the pamphlet you have done during the semester willhelp you to explain previous design thoughts and the critics to understand them. Also I have seen plenty of presentations going down the drain not because the design was bad,it went that wrong because a bunch of zombies presented a night without sleep, to much pizza and maccas food over the last few days before a presentation, and everyone isa mumbling wreck to prevent you from becoming a zombie and us from watching you perform like one the

DEADLINE FOR HANDING IN POWERPOINT PRESENTATION AND THE A1 PLANIS

THE DAY BEFORE THE FINAL PRESENTATION AT 5 PM LATEST AT THE URBANAID STUDIO BLD 6, LEVEL 6, ROOM 68

IF YOU ARE NOT THERE YOU DO NOT NEED TO SHOW UP THE NEXT DAY ITS LIKE IN MONOPOLY:

    3/3

DO NOT PASS GO, DO NOT COLLECT YOUR MARK GO STRAIGHT TO REPEATING THE STUDIO

Thus the FINAL PRESENTATION must include following and due to the amount of work you have done now choose the best you got. (number explain in which presentation fieldwhat has to be)

TASK 1: Technology (2|3), What is it good for? (3)

    TASK 2: Case Presentation (2|3)

TASK 3: Typology and user behavior (2|3)

TASK 4: Story board images (1|2|3), Story board text (3)

TASK 5: Set list of conditions (1|2|3), Choose Location (1|2|3), Equipment list (1|2|3), Set parameters (1|2|3)

    TASK 6: Script (1|2|3), Documentation (1|2|3)

Task 6 will result in a 4-page document (when having A5 as a format). Exact layout has been part of GROUPTASK 1 and is subject to discussion in the studio.

    Portfolio

Details of the style and layout of the portfolio are subject to an overall standard developed by the UTS School of Architecture. Anthony Burke will update you in this regard and

inform about the hand in process.

Particular for our studio is the condition that I want to have your complete work (THAT IS EVERYTHING) as a digital file on an UrbanAid server. As mentioned at the beginning ofthe semester, we aim to work on an IPad app / eBook based on the studio, thus we need all your documentation such as drawings, sketches, picture, plans, graphics, etc. Pleasehand these in at the day of the hand in your portfolio. Last year students came with their hard drives and we copied your complete semester folder to our server. Please beconsiderate and organize your files thus as another person can later find things. A file name Final or Final_Final_really Final does not help. Dates are always good so callsomething Presentation20110924 and everybody understands that the last date is the latest version. Be kind to the graphic designer who will later work on the app, have yourdocumentation in an orderly state, enabling others to find their way around.
