• David contacted about CHOICE.

• We have measurements for all lamps in the CHOICE comparison. Used these data and made an Excel tool where you can select operating hours per day.

• With ON 5h/day and standby 19 h/day, the average cost is 6.0 $/year for the smart lamps and 4.7 $/year for the OSRAM standard LED and maximum 4.2 $/year for lamp with efficacy at IEA SSL Tier 1 level. The smart lamps costs are in average 29% higher compared to the OSRAM lamp and 44% higher compared to an IEA SSL Tier 1 lamp.

• With ON 2 h/day and standby 22 h/day, the average cost is 3.2 $/year for the smart lamps and 1.9 $/year for the OSRAM standard LED and maximum 1.7 $/year for an IEA SSL Tier 1 lamp. The smart lamps costs are in average 70% higher than for the OSRAM lamp and 90% higher compared to an IEA SSL tier 1 lamp.

3.1 Trends: In the home more simple Control and more simple Smartness

21

• Use of Bluetooth (no gateway) as alternative to Zigbee • Smart button as alternative to App including basic

functions as brighten, dim, select between a few modes

• Smart Plug supporting plug and play • Control by Voice • Power consumption monitoring

3.2 DALI Alliance specify standard gate- ways from Wireless network to wired DALI

22

• Specification Part 341 covers Bluetooth mesh to DALI Gateways • Specification Part 342 covers Zigbee to DALI Gateway • The new specifications will be transferred to the IEC for

incorporation into the IEC 623866 standard. • This will free product developers from supporting multiple

interface options in a new luminaire or sensor, and will give designers and specifiers far more freedom in deploying connectivity throughout a space.

6.4 Lower Efficacy for smart Lamps

• Average Efficacy 2015 - 2019 73 lm/W

• Energy Star Lamps 2015 – 2019 83 lm/W

6.8.1 Recommendations: Drop focus on ZigBee 3.0?

43

https://zigbeealliance.org/zigbee_products/?product_type=certified_product&se=zigbee+3.0

June 2020, Zigbee 3.0 product versions from Valeto, Muller-Livh, Innr, Immax, Sengled, BEGA and Philips/Signify.

• The manufactures don’t market lower consumption with Zigbee 3.0 products.

• Bluetooth is about to become the “standard” protocol due to no gateway and easy pairing.

• Some manufacturers already use the Wake-up at least in development.

.

Page 44: TASK 7 Smart Lighting...1.1 Australian Test of Luminaires 3 1. Brilliant Lighting WiFi, Smart Trilogy 9W LED CCT Dimmable Downlight, 3000-5000 K, dimmable via app or voice control

44

• Developed for saving energy for IoT connected devices on battery.

• Wake up for 2 milliseconds out of every 100 reduces the average power from 100 mW to around 1.6 mW !

• Our standby measurements are not lower than 80-90 mW

• Some manufactures has started to use the Wake-Up Radio concept

http://innovationatwork.ieee.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/WUR-Preview-with-links.pdf?utm_source=WUR_11&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=WUR

6.8.2 Recommendation: Usage of the Wake-Up Radio Concept

Page 45: TASK 7 Smart Lighting...1.1 Australian Test of Luminaires 3 1. Brilliant Lighting WiFi, Smart Trilogy 9W LED CCT Dimmable Downlight, 3000-5000 K, dimmable via app or voice control

45

6.8.3 Recommended Regulation? Year?

Page 46: TASK 7 Smart Lighting...1.1 Australian Test of Luminaires 3 1. Brilliant Lighting WiFi, Smart Trilogy 9W LED CCT Dimmable Downlight, 3000-5000 K, dimmable via app or voice control

46

• Request open systems

• Request interoperability. For the commercial sector, it is very possitive that Dali Alliance has specified gateways between the wireless protocols Bluetooth respectively Zigbee and the wired Dali. These specification are forwarded to IEC in the hope they will use them.

• Requst consistent Smart Systems.

• For complex lamps, it is recommended it is possible to measure the power consumption for different functions.

• For mass use of smart lighting, more userfriendly and simplicity is needed.

.

6.9 Recommendation on Interoperability

Page 47: TASK 7 Smart Lighting...1.1 Australian Test of Luminaires 3 1. Brilliant Lighting WiFi, Smart Trilogy 9W LED CCT Dimmable Downlight, 3000-5000 K, dimmable via app or voice control

6.10 Recommandation: Energy-Reporting-Acccuracy

47

• Regulation might be a barrier for smart lighting as their efficacy is lower and the consumption (kWh per m2) is specified to be calculation based on max power (might be used limited) and hours of usage per day, month or year. Self-reporting takes savings by smart control into consideration

• Recommend there will come standards for luminaires that self-report energy usage including required accuracy. PNNL, USA is already trying to start a process to get standards.

• Results: Refence to DOE PNNL study ”Characterization and Analysis of the Emergy-Reporting Accuracy of Connected Devices”, June 2020 that studies many devices including SSL’s with dimming. Instantaneus measurements accuracy was within 2% but the cumulative energy usage lacked precision as high as 17%.
